NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A briskly paced, terrifically suspenseful work that steadily builds toward a tense and terrifying climax.”—People (Page-turner of the week)This ebook edition contains a special preview of Tess Gerritsen’s I Know a Secret. He slips into homes at night and walks silently into bedrooms where women lie sleeping, about to awaken to a living nightmare. The precision of his … about to awaken to a living nightmare. The precision of his methods suggests that he is a deranged man of medicine, prompting the Boston newspapers to dub him “The Surgeon.” Led by Detectives Thomas Moore and Jane Rizzoli, the cops must consult the victim of a nearly identical crime: Two years ago, Dr. Catherine Cordell fought back and filled an attacker before he could complete his assault. Now this new killer is re-creating, with chilling accuracy, the details of Cordell’s ordeal. With every new murder he seems to be taunting her, cutting ever closer, from her hospital to her home. And neither Moore nor Rizzoli can protect Cordell from a ruthless hunter who somehow understands—and savors—the secret fears of every woman he kills.

Love it!
This was the first book I read by Tess and I was hooked. Something is happening at the hospital and you will have to keep reading until the end.
If you like crime novels you will like The Surgeon. The story line itself is very good but my largest hang up is one of the main characters, Det. Rizzoli, is completely unlikable. I get where the author is trying to take us with her attitude, but her entire dislike against Catherine is reduced at one point to the fact that she’s jealous of her looks. In another scene Rizzoli basically demands her partner cover up her bad shot and then tattles on her partner for getting to close to Catherine for retribution. Throughout the book Rizzoli has a few redeeming moments, but as a whole it just isn’t enough.
The books are so much better than the tv show.
Fabulous. Edge of your seat. Psychological thrillers.
This book literally kept me awake at night!
This was being touted as the first Rizzoli & Isles book but Isles doesn’t make an appearance. I guest I’m a bit jilted because by the time I got this book, I had been on the waiting list at the library for months. I had already read better serial killer/heroine main character books. i.e. Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, Karin Slaughter, J D Robb, etc. This was kind of slow to me and the action really didn’t start until the end. It started with a murder but through the middle we get lots of background on all the characters and a look into the killer’s mind. That was a weird place to be, it was mostly a history lesson and a thesis on the power of blood! I enjoyed trying to figure out who the killer was but lost interest when the focus shifted to Rizzoli. This was a very unlikable character, she whined all the time about life not being fair because she is a woman. (She should try being a black woman) and she’s not a very trustworthy cop because she took her anger and hurt out on a suspect then tried to justify her actions. Not sure I want to continue with this series, will possibly try the next book to get introduced to Isles.
Fabulous. Kept me on the edge of my seat.
One of the scariest villains you will ever encounter in literature! Jane Rizzoli matches wits with a butcher who tortures his victims. He lures Jane into his lair and begins whittling on her, too! Too scary to imagine!
I love this series, and highly recommend it. Two completely different friends need to put bad people behind bars. This is either the first or the second in Rizzoli and Isles series. If you like James Patterson, or Michael Palmer you will love Tess
This was, perhaps, my favorite of all the Rizzoli and Isles books. I became engrossed and couldn’t put it down!
Start of the Rizzoli and Isles series, which has been strong throughout. Better than the TV series it spawned, which was fun but much less substantial than the books
All of the Rizzoli and Isles books are awesome. Great read
Love Rizzoli and Isles!
Great read! Got me started on the Rizzili and Isles series although in this first book they are secondary characters.
Great and terrifying read.
Just all together awesome!!!!
Loved it – couldn’t put it down!
The surgeon character is one of the creepiest bad guys of all time.
Another in a great series, worth the time and cost.
