This is my first book by Ms. Hale and I will say I was not disappointed. What a fun read. I loved the friendship between Callie and Olivia, they had this unbreakable bond that no matter what one faced they were there for each other. I hope to read Olivia’s story some time soon. My heart broke a little for Callie she had faced so much and was afraid to love again, but she had this independent ready to kick butt if necessary. I really liked how this has a twist in the book that I didn’t see coming and that this book was a good clean read. I think the only thing I missed was I wished that both Luke and Callie had parts in the book I would have loved to read more about Luke and his thoughts as the story was going on since he was such a big part of the book. Overall I don’t feel like his story wasn’t necessarily told but I wish there was more from him if that makes sense. Over all I found it hard to put this book down it was very heartwarming and captivating. You really can’t go wrong with this fun love story. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
This year I’ve enjoyed reading books that take place on the North Carolina coast, especially the Outer Banks. I really liked the portrayal of the beach town that Jenny Hale gives the reader. Living in a coastal city myself, I’m familiar with the humidity and the ocean breeze, but I’ve never been to NC. Her descriptions of the warm sand and the salty air were beautiful. I would love to some day vacation in a cute cottage on the NC beach.
The romance between Callie & Luke was sweet and tender. I’ve read some great contemporary romance books lately, so this one didn’t completely live up to my expectations. After finishing the book, I discovered that 2 of Jenny Hale’s books have been turned in to Hallmark Christmas movies and that explains so much. I love Hallmark movies for their simple sweet stories, but they’re not life changing, have to tell everyone about it type stories. And that’s how I feel about this book. Although there was some tension, it was resolved rather easily and everything seemed a little too good to be true. Again, I think my recent reads have influenced my thoughts on this one. The ending seemed rushed and tied up unrealistically easily. What I did enjoy about this book is that it wasn’t just a romance, but also a story about friendship and family. If you want a sweet and light romance that makes you smile, this is a nice story.
It was always a dream of their’s to purchase the old cottage on the North Carolina Outerbanks and turn it into a bed and breakfast, and now they are finally making it a reality. Callie Weaver and best friend Olivia Dixon have put their savings together and have purchased the cottage they’ve always wanted to own. Their summers on the beach were some of their happiest memories and they think this cottage will bring all that back to them, and give Callie the fresh start that she craves. They know they have their work cut out for them, but they are determined to restore it back to it’s natural glory.
But that isn’t the only new thing to come Callie’s way, after a chance encounter with the town’s most unattainable bachelor Luke Sullivan, she begins to see the appeal of small town living even more. He is handsome, intriguing, and could be dangerous for her heart, but she is more than ready to take the risk!
The Summer House is the perfect beach read, the moment you crack the cover it’s endearing characters will find their way into heart, and have your undivided attention. It’s a wonderful story about new beginnings, realizing dreams, friendship, and finding love. I was in need of an escape from reality and this book was the perfect remedy, the words painted a beautiful picturesque view of the sandy beach, charming cottages, and welcoming locale. At times the words made me feel like I was right there with the characters, and boy was it blissful! If you like heartwarming stories loaded with feels than I have no doubt The Summer House will give you everything you crave, it’s words are destined to leave your heart nice and toasty! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
I loved the setting and the characters. Had me rooting for Callie in hopes that she would find real love.
This is the first book I have read by Jenny Hale. It sounded “good” and I decided to give it a shot. Boy did I get more than I bargained for. Jenny Hale has a brand new fan! I LOVED the book. Heck, I even want to remodel a beach house after reading this. Courageous women that are independent and not afraid to be on their own but also willing to take a chance on love. Typical feel good story but THEN she throws in a twist you don’t see coming. First you need the tissues and then you bite your nails and think Oh no! It has to work out. It just has too! I can’t say anymore or it would spoil the end and it’s too good to spoil.
This was a light entertaining book. A great beach read.
Quick read and very entertaining. Surprise ending
It was an easy read for summer.
Very light, beachy, summer read. Nothing heavy. I enjoyed it but found the ending a little predictable.
Good summer beach read.
A perfect beach read! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of detail added to really showcase the setting and characters. The literary quality goes beyond typical beach bag staple, but I literally want to share it with everyone!
The Summer House Jenny Hale is the story of Callie Weaver and Luke Sullivan.
Callie and her friend are working to renovate a beach house to make it into a bed and breakfast type place. So Callie works to stay focused on that but when she see rich playboy Luke he is a distraction that is very hard to walk away from.
Great easy summer read.
I love a good beach and poolside book , and The Summer House was perfection. I’ve never read Jenny Hale, but I will from now on. The story was delightful with a complexity that is subtle and clever. Callie and Olivia are working hard for their dream of renovating a beach house, and I totally respect that. The setting of the Outer Banks is ideal because it’s so beautiful. It brings a certain atmospheric presence of serenity and hope. Of course, no beach book is complete without a little romance and mystery. Callie and Luke have a potential relationship, but is he who he seems to be? A diary of some dramatic secrets is found, but what does that mean? Share the information or not? You will have to read to find out. This story will make you smile and transport you to a wind swept coastal hideaway, if you’re not there already! I received a complimentary copy from Forever and Grand Central Publishing. All opinions expressed are my own.
The story captivates from the very beginning and carries you through to the end. The character are well developed and thought out. This is a great summer sun read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.
Set in the Outer Banks this is a sweet read. Originally published in 2017, this is a great time to get reacquainted with Jenny Hale and her writing. A little intrigue, a little love, and a ton of fun.
Great beach bag book for summer.
