I had to force myself to keep reading as the book tended to drag at the beginning. However, once I got started I was unable to put it down. The last 100 pages simply flew by and I wanted to story to keep going.
Clancy was well ahead of his time with most of his books and this was no different. The idea that terrorists could smuggle a nuke into the U.S. and detonate it in a densely populated area is more reality today than it was when the book was written.
Don’t waste your time with the movie as it stunk and did not follow the book very well. If you are a fan of spy thrillers, international espionage, and just plain well written books, this book is for you.
Another great Tom Clancy novel. This is one of the original series that he wrote himself. Very detailed, extensively researched, with a plot line that draws you in.
Another Tom Clancy thriller. Love it!
This was the first Clancy I ever read. It’s not my favorite of his, but it’s a well-written, exhaustive, fun read. HUGE book but a good read, even if you’re not up to speed on the Jack Ryan series.
I love all of the Clancy books and this is no exception.
Great Read
You know the story has pulled you in when you want to throttle a character!
It’s Tom Clancy back when he was the only author in the Jack Ryan universe. Well worth reading and I have read it several times over the years. Clancy was one of a kind when writing political action thrillers and brought a realism to the genre that I hope to someday see again.
Have read most and will be purchasing more Tom Clancy books [some co-authored or written by writers since Mr. Clancy’s demise; most have them have followed his technique of plot, etc.].
I loved this book, as it continued and helped to cement Tom Clancy’s place as a solid story-teller. His untimely demise left us with a gap, athough there are others who are trying to continue his legacy. He was a definite legend and hard to replace.
I enjoyed all his books. I’m reluctant to try any of the authors using his name to sell theirs.
One of my favorite Clancy novels because of how realistic it seems and how scary it is to think about if it is accurate.
Good Clancy!
How does this author manage to write one book after another that you just can’t stop reading until you finish. Mark off some time because you will not be able to stop turning pages!!!
Excellent book, but is very long but worth the time to struggle through it…..
Enjoyed it immensely.
I’ve read this book many years ago but it still is one of my favorites.
A good read, definitely not Clancy’s best, but good. A bit deep in places with less action than most Clancy books. Makes you think about activists. Fake news big here before politically correct!
Spellbinding as usual with Tom Clancy
I always enjoy a Tom Clancy book. They are satisfyingly lengthy, and keep me interested.
