The lure of the legendary Spice Trail beckons, but he may never find a spice more precious than the treasure he left in Charles Town.
(New title…same great story! Originally titled as Georgia Ann ~ English Rose.)
Two Charles Town men love Georgia Ann Cooper—Samuel Vargas and his step-brother, Joshua Becket—but only one both attracts and infuriates her. Even though he’s a dangerous budding … Even though he’s a dangerous budding patriot and a privateer—or more likely pirate—Samuel fills her dreams and waking moments. When he leaves Charles Town for high sea adventure on the legendary Spice Trail, she determines to push him out of her thoughts and her graces. A task made easier when she sets out on her own journey to England on one of her father’s merchant ships.
Samuel Vargas is determined to make his own way in the world, not live in the glow of his parents’ escapades in Charles Town and the Spanish Main. There’s no better place to earn his fortune than the Spice Trail and along the Barbary Coast of the Mediterranean. But the adventure becomes more than he bargained for when, at Tripoli, he stumbles across a familiar face from Charles Town in a sultan’s dungeon. He’s forced to use all his abilities to save the life of the woman he’s been trying to forget.
As their paths intertwine on a journey filled with Barbary pirates, intrigue, and romance, only love and the grace of God can overcome the past and ignite a new beginning for Georgia Ann and Samuel.

Like the first book, which you don’t have to read but you should because it’s also amazing, this book hooks you from the beginning! It’s a majestic tale that takes you to the Barbary Coast to pirates to Tripoli to the Spice Islands to the English rule in other parts of the world in the 1700’s and so many parts in between! I could write about this book for days! I loved Georgia Ann and Samuel. What they wouldn’t do for each other! The level of sacrifice and love was breathtaking. Slave ships and brother-to-brother secrets plus characters that will endear you or revile you! I just never wanted the book to end! Sometimes you never knew which character was friend or foe. I could easily see this book become a movie because it was so “sweeping” in nature! Spanish Galleons riding the open seas being taken over by pirates and sultans in Tripoli with harems but always, the main characters having a strong faith when they are in terrible circumstances! I loved every word of this book and highly recommend it!
This book was a delight to read! The romance was sweet, and the suspense of their romance and the plot kept me reading. The characters were wonderful to follow and I enjoyed watching their love triumph. The author also a way of mixing Christian values in that enhances the story and doesn’t make it seem too preachy. I was impressed and loved this book! This a must-read!
This good, old-fashioned swashbuckling romance took me back to my younger days when this kind of romance was all I read. However, this goes one better because the characters’ faith takes center stage throughout their adventures and hardships. And maybe I’ve grown up a little bit (a lot) and it’s the faith questions that matter the most to me now. Thank you for opening my eyes a bit more.
I always enjoy reading historical fiction because it is fun to learn about different time periods. This was a fun trip to the early colonies in the 1700s. Samuel is a strong hero who clearly loves to travel and loves the Lord. Georgia loves adventure and helping others. These two make a sweet pair! This book was action packed and showed how Jesus loves and protects His people. I’m always glad to have a happily ever after! I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Just say the word Charleston and I am there in my mind, wanting to be there in person. In Georgia Ann—English Rose the adventures are endless, whether in Charleston, on the High Seas, or Tripoli, the characters are thrown into action for survival and rescue. The prospect of landing in a harem or marring the wrong man because of a whisper of a promise aren’t to be taken lightly in the 1700s.
Danger lurks today as we travel but we expect to reach the destination with little discomfort. Stories of piracy, abduction, and slavery still exist too. But the feats of bravery in this novel beat beyond what most of us face in a lifetime.
If the reader wants a fast-paced read, I’d recommend Georgia Ann—English Rose. The characters resonate as flesh and blood always a heartbeat away from danger.
I almost forgot to mention one of my favorite historical characters, Christopher Gadsden, has a role, alluding to the idea of war with the British.
Georgia Ann, English Rose is a fabulous second addition to the Charleston Brides series Elva Cobb Martin. Even though it is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a stand alone. This story was full of what I love to read in a book. Which includes: history, romance, action, danger and intrigue. I was entertained with this tale from start to finish. Georgia Ann and Samuel are such a fabulous duo. I loved this book.
Georgia Ann, English Rose is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy clean Historical Romance. I am looking forward to the third installment from the Charleston Brides series, Anna Grace, Patriot Rose . I am excited to find out where else Miss Martin will take her readers to next.
I received Georgia Ann, English Rose from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I read this book in one weekend! I couldn’t put it down. I was captivated by the action, and romance and was swept off my feet. I’m already counting down the days until the release of the next book! Mrs. Martin’s writing always makes me feel like I’m right in the action with the characters and this novel was no different! It’s hard for young mothers to find clean love stories without the filth. That’s what I love the most about Mrs. Martin’s writing it’s romantic, and clean! Georgia Ann is my favorite so far!
This was a great love story. I loved the characters of Georgia Ann and Samuel. I had a few issues with solving some things so quickly but it was a great story full of adventure. I also like clean books without offensive language and this fit the bill. In fact, Elva brought in their faith so it was all good. Not too preachy but just enough.
I was on Elva’s team to read and review but this is my honest review. I’d recommend this book to anyone looking for a good romance and adventure.
Georgia Ann, English Rose is an adventurous romp with a clear Christian message set during pre-Revolutionary Charles Town and tropical islands. The story is engaging with a spunky blond heroine who still has her damsel in distress moments and a swashbuckling, handsome privateer hero. Of course, no adventure is complete without a dastardly villain. Georgia Ann is a delight to read and will keep you on the edge of your seat.
A wonderful story filled with action, danger and romance. Author Elva Cobb Martin uses descriptions that made me feel like I was right there in the midst of the story. From waves on the ocean, to pirates, to tons of adventure, this story kept me reading and wanting to know the outcome. Great read. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
I’ve been looking forward to the release of this book ever since I read the first in the series, Marisol, Spanish Rose and I wasn’t disappointed. The characters are three dimensional and grab you from the beginning and history and faith are woven beautifully throughout the story. Like many other women, I cut my teeth on swashbuckling romance and the face that faith takes center stage makes this story all the more meaningful. I’m now looking forward to book three!
It usually takes me a few chapters to become engrossed in a novel. Not so with Georgia Ann, English Rose. After reading the prologue, I could not put it down. Just when I thought an adventure had been resolved, here came another unexpected turn. As always, Elva Martin has a unique way of using scripture and the power of the Gospel to help weave her tale. I look forward to reading Book 3 of the Charleston Brides series, Anna Grace, American Rose.
As I began reading this book, I did not know which brother deserved to win the heart of Georgia Ann. But as I continued reading, I knew who she belonged with completely. The danger, excitement, and adventure in this book kept me reading.
I have to say some points of the book broke my heart, while other parts made me relieved. Having read the story of Marisol, I was glad to read a book about her son. This book moved along at a good pace. It had well-developed characters, along with an interesting storyline. So if you like historical fiction centered on God and family, check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I’ll be honest and say that to me this book got off to a slow start and I was beginning to dread having to finish it. I persisted and just a few chapters in the action picked up considerably and pretty much did not let up until the satisfying end. Both the hero and heroine experienced harrowing and dangerous incidents that required divine intervention to save them.
Georgia Ann, English Rose is a tame title for a tale filled with pirates, danger on the high seas, prison, kidnapping, betrayal, courage, faith, and romance, Events that may have seemed to be coincidental placed Samuel and Georgia Ann in just the right place at just the right time on more than one occasion and the Lord used others in the same way again and again. At times romantic and often suspenseful with a surprise or two along the way, this novel was a pleasant surprise and I was glad I did not give up on it too soon.

What I think you should know:
Georgia Ann, English Rose is the second book in the Charleston Brides by Elva Cobb Martin. The bulk of the story starts in Charles Town in 1760. This book takes place 20 years after the first book in the series, Marisol, Spanish Rose. While this book could be read as a stand along I highly recommend that you read the first book in the series prior to reading this one as it is a great book!
What you might need to know:
The book is set in the era of Slavery, it contains slaves and slave trade and some of the atrocities associated with it. The book does not encourage or condone slavery.
What I think about this book:
Buckle up for great adventures! I fell in love with this family in Marisol, Spanish Rose and am so excited to continue their story. Joshua and Samuel are now adults and have taken different paths in life Samuel has grown into a strong man who is looking for wealth and adventure, but ends up with much more than he bargained for. Georgia grows for a young lady into a woman with strength and Faith. With privateering, fighting, kidnapping and being taken into slavery this book takes you from one adventure to the next. I pray that my sons have friends as loyal as Jamie Boy. I love the gentle way that Martin wove The Gospel and Faith into the story. I loved every minute of the book and can’t wait to read the third book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my
First, this is the second book in a series. The first book, Marisol: Spanish Rose, is a wonderful read. You don’t have to read it before reading this one but it’s a wonderful book in its own right so why not?
Okay, now onto this book. We have history. And we have pirates. Plus you’ve got love and a couple trying to forget each other. What can go wrong?
I really enjoyed the characters and seeing the family again from book one. But I also love how the characters have grown and developed. Plus who doesn’t love a good bit of suspense with a good romance thrown in.
Georgia is determined to put one of the brothers out of her mind. He’s not the logical choice for her even if he is the one who stirs her soul. But when she sails off with her father only to need to be rescued by the said pirate brother can she calm her heart?
I really enjoyed this book and think you will too. As always I advise reading the books in a series in order, but you don’t have to. Though I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
This has been an exciting book to read. With pirates, ships, adventure, romance and deceit the story is sure to keep readers interested til the very end. Now I have never had two men fight over me and I’m not sure if I would want that. But our lovey Georgia Ann experiences this as Samuel and Joshua via for her love.
I absolutely loved the reading about the ships and how dangerous it was on the high seas. How would you react if your ship was taken over? I think my heart would sink and fear would sink in. There is a lot going on in this story and I have to say the author drew me in immediately. Georgia Ann has promised to wait for Samuel to return, but someone is determined to marry her first. My were there some very underhanded shenanigans going on to prevent Georgia Ann from marrying the love of her life.
There is a faith element in the book that I thought was well written. We find a character who was willing to share God with someone and help them understand that God loved everyone. I liked that moment in the story where everything stopped for a brief time while we are witnesses to someone growing close to God.
The story is filled with kidnappings, lies, sword fighting and an epic battle of good vs evil. Greed gets the best of someone and finds themselves deeper and deeper as they spiral out of control. They will do anything to get what they want including harming others. Get ready for an epic journey that takes readers to a time period that is well defined by the authors words historical research and an ending that is unforgettable.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
We have hope. If God brought him here just when you and I need rescuing, do you think He would abandon us or Samuel now? – Belle to Georgia
A race at a 12th birthday party that doesn’t finish until you read The End! Georgia Ann Cooper is the daughter of a plantation owner and much beloved by all who know her. Joshua Becket is studying to become a lawyer and his step-brother Samuel Vargas is a privateer and owns the Eagle.
There is a great deal of adventure on the high seas with Spanish galleons, Turkish brigantines and British privateers vying for the treasures that abound from the Spice Islands and beyond. Capture is always possible even when treaties have been signed between countries. The excitement never stops in this historical tale of kidnapping, escape, sword fighting, imprisonment and even death.
The fight against taxation without representation is heating up and the Sons of Liberty are forming. What an exciting time in the history of this country! This ARC of the second book in the Charleston Brides series was received through WildHeart Books and CelebrateLit. The comments and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
What better way to learn a few lesser-known facts of American history than to discover them woven into a story of romance on the high seas! Having done due diligence on research, author Elva Cobb Martin was able to inject authenticity into her narrative of piracy on the Barbary Coast. The plot is well-paced and full of nonstop action. The book cover captures perfectly the author’s vivid description of the beautiful heroine Georgia Ann (love that name!) and her dashing hero, Captain Samuel Vargas. Anyone who enjoys historical romance, especially when it involves adventure on the high seas, will enjoy this book. I received a free ecopy of the book; however, the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
I love the fast pace of Martin’s books. Georgia Ann did not disappoint in this regard. The storyline was well developed and the characters came to life on the pages of the book, with their faith clearly evident. My only negative for the book is where Georgia Ann was rescued was a little unbelievable and too coincidental. I would like to have seen a little more depth and creativity in these areas of the book. With that said, I still enjoyed and would recommend the book to others.
