NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In this irresistible novel, Sarah Addison Allen, author of the bestselling debut, Garden Spells, tells the tale of a young woman whose family secrets—and secret passions—are about to change her life forever. Josey Cirrini is sure of three things: winter is her favorite season, she’s a sorry excuse for a Southern belle, and sweets are best eaten in the privacy of her … best eaten in the privacy of her closet. For while Josey has settled into an uneventful life in her mother’s house, her one consolation is the stockpile of sugary treats and paperback romances she escapes to each night. . . . Until she finds her closet harboring Della Lee Baker, a local waitress who is one part nemesis—and two parts fairy godmother. With Della Lee’s tough love, Josey’s narrow existence quickly expands. She even bonds with Chloe Finley, a young woman who is hounded by books that inexplicably appear when she needs them—and who has a close connection to Josey’s longtime crush. Soon Josey is living in a world where the color red has startling powers, and passion can make eggs fry in their cartons. And that’s just for starters.
Brimming with warmth, wit, and a sprinkling of magic, here is a spellbinding tale of friendship, love—and the enchanting possibilities of every new day.

The Sugar Queen is very well-written and an entertaining read. The characters are quirky but believable and memorable. The storyline is fresh, fantastical, and strangely upbeat!
Could have been better developed. Pretty predictable, but I liked the characters.
It was so boring they threw on a few
Minor “odd” things to trick you into Thinking This book would give you more. All it did was make me want to finish the book so I could actually read something
That I enjoyed.
Wonderfully different, Well written and well paced. Nice unexpected twists. A wonderful example of a story with unrealistic elements that are believable because the characters are three dimensional and react to their circumstances as a real person would with all of their complexities. The characters development and grow through their circumstances rather than just reacting to them Nice feel good quirky and unexpected ending without being sappy or over stated. In short I loved this book.
a delightful book.
The book surprised me. It was delicious.
Loved it!
I will read every word she writes including facebook short stories
At first, I wasn’t sure I’d get into it, but it grabbed me in the “closet”! Characters were great, descriptions realistic, twists and turns, secrets, personal triumphs, love, and surprise. Written so you want to go on. Enjoyed it very much.
great book. The characters are sweet and have depth, flaws and some quiet tragedy to them, but in an enchanting and subtly magical story. very sweet.
I enjoyed the characters and their flaws. Not complicated, just a nice easy read.

Not quite as fun as Garden Spells, but enjoyable
I gave up on this one.
Quirky, with all the fantasy bits here and there. Interesting story line to me. Was fun to keep guessing as I read the book how it would end. Enjoyed the writing and the pace.
Well written, loved all of it.
I enjoyed this book, kinda quirky, but enjoyable.
Wonderful story about a recluse who finds happiness!
