A hopeless romantic and cynical news producer set out to find a “missed connection” from a NY subway. Will finding the Subway Girl lead to love?
Graphic designer and cinnamon roll Ryan Carlson is just a regular guy—a good guy—looking to meet the right woman. A transplant to New York from small town Iowa, he’s a strong believer in fate and hoping to recreate the magic his parents found. When he … found. When he spies a stranger on the New York subway, he feels an instant connection. Before he can muster the courage to talk to her, the beautiful woman exits the train. Intent on finding her, he creates a website with all the details he can remember in the hopes someone will recognize her.
Angie Prince is a cynical news producer for the TMZ-style website Celebrity Monger. Between her nonexistent father figure, cheating boyfriend, and the celebrity infidelity she covers on her job, the native New Yorker believes love and goodness is for suckers. Desperate to help her unscrupulous boss take the site to network television, Angie needs a big story to boost ratings and page views.
As Ryan’s love quest causes a social media frenzy and collides with Angie’s search for headlines, he can’t help see the gorgeous woman behind the newswoman’s tough exterior. And though Angie happily pimps Ryan’s story for ratings, the biggest news might be the growing feelings in her own heart.
Is the mismatched couple’s focus for affections totally off track, or is fate about to arrive on platform passion?

This is such a great summer read!
The Subway Girl is my second book by Lisa Becker (the first one was Starfish, which I’ve also reviewed) and let me tell you, TSG is another fantastic book.
Have you ever crossed paths with someone where you just feel like; this is it, I’ve met my person?
Ryan Carlson has! Ryan is one of the two main characters from The Subway Girl and if I could find someone like him in real life I’d be pretty darn happy. He is kind, has great manners, he’s romantic and just such a genuine good guy and I need him in my life.
Ryan spots a striking girl on the subway one day and he is convinced that it’s fate, unfortunately the girl is lost in a sea of people and instead of just giving up on his subway girl, he makes a decision and takes it to the next level. Ryan ends up on Celebrity Monger, a celebrity gossip channel, and they’re going to help Ryan find his girl.
Angie Prince works at the gossip channel and is assigned to Ryan’s quest of finding his dream girl.
She’s tiny, but feisty, and a bit jaded when it comes to love. But there’s a lot more than meets the eye with Angie. She’s trying her best to scrape money together and due to that she sometimes makes some decisions that I don’t agree with.
Ryan and Angie work together in order to find the subway girl and they become closer and closer. The search for Ryan’s girl starts off easy enough, but it soon takes on a life of its own and has so many twists and turns. This story will keep you on your toes!
Watching Ryan and Angie’s relationship evolve was incredible, the two of them developed such a great friendship and sometimes I just wanted to shout “KISS” at them. I do wish we’d gotten to see more of them together as a couple.
The Subway Girl has a sublime gallery of characters, and I had to get used to just how many in the beginning, but once you’ve done that you’re in for a treat. It’s also a heavily dialogue-based book, so keep that in mind and that may be one of the reasons why I found it a bit difficult at first to keep up with the many characters.
Some of the standout characters was Angie’s roommate, Josie, as were Ryan’s two best friends, Luke and Diego, and I’m hoping we’ll see more of them in the future!
The Subway Girl was a fun, romantic read. It has drama, mystery, a wholesome, fantastic guy, and plenty of humour. This is a great book for summer.
Thanks to the author for generously providing me an ARC to review.
This was such a fun story to read with just the right amount of romance thrown in. I completely devoured it!
Ryan sees the girl of his dreams getting off the subway. He loses sight of her but a web producer comes up with a plan to help him find her. He can’t wait to meet the love of his life. But Angie doesn’t believe in true love and is only interested in her show’s ratings. So much is riding on the success of this show.
Well, let me tell you, the clashes and chemistry between these two make for a roller-coaster ride of emotions and drama. It was so entertaining to watch the romantic and the cynic battle it out. And oh my gosh, there were parts that had me laughing out loud. That Angie, she’s a little spitfire!
I loved The Subway Girl! I’ve read all of Lisa’s books and I’m always excited to read her latest one because I know it’s going to be an amazing journey. This one did not disappoint. Check it out!
The Subway Girl is a rather fun and entertaining story that reads like it could be a tv show.
Boy meets girl very briefly on the subway but doesn’t catch up to her. He needs to find her…this beautiful girl. So he sets a plan to find her, then he meets Angie who helps him in his quest through her work.
What starts out as quite entertaining, little does Ryan know what will eventuate. Is the Subway Girl the one for him??!!
Or does he find someone else??
His best friends were an absolute hoot. Would really love to be friends with them
This was a fun read.
This was my first experience reading this author’s work and now I am off to see what else she has written because I thoroughly enjoyed The Subway Girl! This was a unique and refreshing read In today’s contemporary romance genre. I love these characters—especially Ryan who is the perfect good guy with a heart of gold but who certainly has a swoony, sexy side too! I am hoping the secondary characters get their own books because they were well developed and interesting in their own right. If you believe in fate and soulmates, you must read The Subway Girl! I highly recommend it! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
The Subway Girl by Lisa Becker is another love story that turned out so much different than one would typically think.
Will Angie find Ryan’s Subway Girl while still being true to herself?
Ryan Carlson
Ryan Carlson is the whole reason why this story exists. He saw a girl on the subway that he thought was beautiful and didn’t get a chance to talk to her before she got off at her stop. After that, well, the whole thing got way too complicated once Celebrity Monger got wind. Let’s just say that Ryan probably should have said no to doing this project. Ryan is a great guy from a small town in Iowa and is honestly just looking for a girl that wants to spend the rest of their lives together. He goes on an emotional roller coaster ride throughout this entire thing.
What I like about Ryan is that despite being in New York for three years, he is still a sweet, honest guy from Iowa with his manners and weird sense of humor. Another thing that I like about him is that Ryan doesn’t want to let go of his faith that there is actually a thing called fate and true love. Is he able to find it though in this subway girl or someone else?
Angie Prince
Angie Prince is just a girl who just wants to help pay off the mortgage on her mom’s house, get Celebrity Monger to a national tv company, and to quit that job to find one where she can write what she wants to write. Sadly it happens just not in the way she excepted. Angie is a sweet girl who had a tough time in life. She has spent most of her whole life living in New York. Now she has to deal with everything that her company is doing to exploit Ryan’s romance. It’s just a very sucky time to be alive.
What I like about Angie is that despite her being a small person, she has a temper that can blow a fuse if someone crosses her the wrong way. Despite that, though, she does have a soft side that she lets loose every once and awhile. Another thing that I like about her is that Angie knows what she wants to do and will fight for it.
Five Stars
The Subway Girl by Lisa Becker is a fantastic book from this author. Each of these romances from this author is significantly different while still ringing the same as some of them are within the same universe. I thought that was cool, especially with ties to the last two romance books I have read from this author. Angie and Ryan are two very different characters that somehow fit in perfectly with each other in a way that neither of them thought was possible. I love reading books from Ms. Becker as she brings the total opposite attracts possible. I am giving this book five stars and recommending it to anyone that loves romance.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Ryan sees a girl on the subway and immediately feels a connection with her. He decides he better make a move to talk to her, but before he gets his chance she’s gone. All her remembers are little details – a pink beanie and an English accent.
Ryan is determined to find her and even creates a website to find this mysterious Subway Girl. That’s how he ends up being contacted by a celebrity gossip website – to see if they can help Ryan find The Subway Girl.
I won’t reveal too much more of the plot, because I don’t want to spoil the book! But everyone in the story is vested in Ryan to find the Subway Girl. What we slowly come to understand are the motives why – and some of them definitely ended up surprising me.
I enjoyed the way Lisa was able to highlight both the wonderful aspects of social media/celebrity gossip as well as the pitfalls. Through Ryan’s journey, we are able to see what motivates the different characters in The Subway Girl and if their motivation is out of the goodness of their heart or something more sinister.
While the sexy times in The Subway Girl were hot (so hot), I wasn’t really invested in the main romance. I do feel like sometimes there were too many voices in the book and those took away from the romance for me.
Audiobook:
Story: 3
Narration: 4
Overall: 3
I’m a big fan of Erin Mallon and I think she did a wonderful job narrating the various characters in The Subway Girl. I could always fell the different emotions that a character was going through.
I enjoyed the audiobook of The Subway Girl! Mystery, romance and a bit of reality TV all combined for an entertaining romance.
I received a complimentary audiobook copy of this book from the author.
