A hopeless romantic and cynical news producer set out to find a “missed connection” from a NY subway. Will finding the Subway Girl lead to love?
Graphic designer and cinnamon roll Ryan Carlson is just a regular guy—a good guy—looking to meet the right woman. A transplant to New York from small town Iowa, he’s a strong believer in fate and hoping to recreate the magic his parents found. When he … found. When he spies a stranger on the New York subway, he feels an instant connection. Before he can muster the courage to talk to her, the beautiful woman exits the train. Intent on finding her, he creates a website with all the details he can remember in the hopes someone will recognize her.
Angie Prince is a cynical news producer for the TMZ-style website Celebrity Monger. Between her nonexistent father figure, cheating boyfriend, and the celebrity infidelity she covers on her job, the native New Yorker believes love and goodness is for suckers. Desperate to help her unscrupulous boss take the site to network television, Angie needs a big story to boost ratings and page views.
As Ryan’s love quest causes a social media frenzy and collides with Angie’s search for headlines, he can’t help see the gorgeous woman behind the newswoman’s tough exterior. And though Angie happily pimps Ryan’s story for ratings, the biggest news might be the growing feelings in her own heart.
Is the mismatched couple’s focus for affections totally off track, or is fate about to arrive on platform passion?

This is a beautiful and fun romantic comedy. The characters are likable, and the storyline is fun and easy to listen to. Erin Mallon did an amazing job with the narration. I enjoyed it.
The Subway Girl is a clever, sweet, and Funny romance. Ryan connects with a beautiful mystery woman across a crowded subway car. She gets off at her stop before Ryan can make his way over to her and then sadly loses her in the crowd. Ryan is a hopeless romantic and takes to social media to try to find her. He enlists the help of a web producer, Angie, who agrees to help him find the woman of his dreams. Angie has wanted to be a serious news reporter but needs money to help her mom. When deadlines draw near, she finds herself crossing a line for the show, but her conscious lets her know that really isn’t her. As she and Ryan spend time together they can’t deny their attraction and fiery sparks that fly between them. But they are in too deep trying to find Subway girl, and there are others who don’t care who gets hurt to make the show a success. This was so much fun and has a wonderful balance between quirky characters, witty banter, surprising plot twists, and great sexual tension. Erin Mallon does a fabulous job bringing this story to life. She skillfully gives each character their own voice and personality making this story even more entertaining.
The Subway Girl by Lisa Becker is a romantic comedy that I listened to on audio narrated by Erin Mallon.
I absolutely love Lisa’s books! They always leave me with a smile on my face. I loved that this wasn’t your typical romance story. The book pulled me in and I had to listen to it in one sitting. I really enjoyed that we got different characters points of views throughout the book. It really helped bring the story to life. You can’t help but root for Angie and Ryan.
Erin did an amazing job on the narration. She always knows how to bring a story to life!
I would highly recommend this book if you love Romantic Comedies, Contemporary Romance, or just romance books in general.
The Subway Girl is my first book with author Lisa Becker. You can be sure I’m finding time to read more. We all need a little more fun and romantic humor in our lives today. Lisa delivers that in The Subway Girl series.
Love at first sight, romantic country guy vs. cynical city girl, best friends that certainly deserve a story of their own, laugh-out-loud humor, The Subway Girl has it all.
Every good romance book needs a character to hate. The Subway Girl has two. Barry and Harrison. The other characters add a fantastic background to the story of Ryan and Angie. There are roommates, co-workers, best friends, and more that add so much depth to Ryan and Angie’s lives.
Will Ryan and Angie learn to trust their feelings and emotions? Can they each put the past behind them and grasp their fleeting chance at love? Please read the book to discover the twists and turns this story takes on its way to a HEA ending.
Notes for readers: The book uses some language not suitable for all readers. If you are offended by words you might hear on the subway, then you need to be aware they are in this slightly steamy story.

How far would you go to find the person that captures your eye across a room or a crowded subway? This book covers just that very thing but is it so Ryan can find this one woman or is it for ratings of an online magazine/celebrity gossip news source?
Ryan is a kind and endearing soul and it isn’t hard to see why anyone would be attracted to him. He comes across as that perfect guy, but no one is perfect and I think Ryan’s downfall is he doesn’t realize that he doesn’t want this mystery woman when Angie has captured his interest and possibly his heart.
Angie was burned by a past relationship and when she agrees to help Ryan find this mystery woman, he is just another job. That is until they spend hours scrolling through videos of those that have responded to his plea. It doesn’t take long before she realizes the person that Ryan is and falls in love but takes a back seat to this work project.
This is a story of the search for a perfect relationship and sometimes you don’t know what you right under your nose until you lose it and then are miserable wanting it back.
I enjoyed the banter between Ryan and Angie and the addition of their friends/roommate/co-workers just rounded the story out. Josie is a true friend and has her own ideas about men and relationships which is a boon to Angie when she has her rollercoaster moments. Diego and Luke provide some great comic relief but are also Ryan’s support system. There is a side story with Luke and Josie that I think would make a great book, so maybe the author has that the works? We can hope! Ryan’s younger sister is a hoot. She knows her brother well and likes to poke fun at him when the situation arises.
But no story has all likable characters. Barry is the sleazeball owner of Gossip Monger and is all about the dollar and using anyone and everyone to pull in higher ratings for his shows. Frankie is Ryan’s ex-girlfriend who wants to try and get back with Ryan for the publicity. You could say she is Barry’s dream come true! Harlan is a character that is on the fence. He could go either way – slimeball or friend.
I enjoyed the banter between the characters and watching Ryan and Angie’s story develop. It wasn’t a smooth road but it all works out in the end.
I really enjoyed The Subway Girl! Lisa’s books always make me happy. Loved the premise of this story. Ryan sees a girl on the subway that he desperately wants to meet but the chance escapes him. He can’t stop thinking about this girl. He makes it his mission to find her again but has no luck on his own. He hopes with the help of a reality tv show, he can find her. Well, things aren’t always what they appear.
I totally fell in love with Ryan, He’s totally swoon worthy! His dedication to finding the person who he thinks is his perfect match is commendable. Totally fell is love with Angie as well. Loved Ryan & Angie together. Erin Mallon did an amazing job narrating this book!
Audio Review
This is such a fun and interesting book. We have Ryan who is not a native New Yorker but he is here and looking for the love of his life. His parents have that kind of relationships where it was written in the stars and Ryan wants that for himself. After some bad previous relationships he is still optimistic he can find his forever love. When he spots her on the Subway he is determined to find her. Along comes Angie, native New Yorker and cynical as they come. She doesn’t believe in fated love but she does believe in ratings and when she thinks she can help Ryan find his girl and boost their shows ratings she is all in. Little does Angie know that fate is coming for her and she will have a change of heart in the long run.
Loved this unusual love story where they take the long way around finding each other but in the end Ryan gets his girl and Angie learns maybe there is such a thing as fate.
Erin Mallon was marvelous narrating this book. I loved listening to her narrate this story. Great!
I highly recommend this book. I loved it.
I loved this book. It was such a fun story and I cannot wait to read more by this author. The character development was great and I felt like there was enough drama to balance the story without it being too dramatic and I love the dialogue between the characters
AUDIOBOOK REVIEW
Lisa Becker is one of my new favorite must read/listen authors. Her stories are captivating from the beginning and The Subway Girl didn’t disappoint. This story is full of funny moments and some angst and just keeps your attention the whole way though. Highly recommend this book and this author.
AUDIOBOOK edition
I love the book, I laughed, I cried, it broke my heart then put it back together. I do believe in fate and is true that Ryan is a rarity. I am glad that he found his ‘the one’ with Angie, they complement each other in many ways and their chemistry is palpable. Loved the movie references and the quotes…. Love this one: “The rearview is smaller than the windshield.”… My heart was breaking while following their journey to HEA, how callous some of those around them were. He had great friends though, loved his family and their closeness. His sister was a hoot. My first book from Ms. Becker and I thoroughly enjoyed. – 5 stars
Ms. Mallon is one of my ‘eargasm’ voices and she did an excellent performance as usual giving each character their voice base on their temperament and state of mind. I love listening to her voices, male and female alike. I especially liked Ryan’s and Angie’s voices. – 5 stars
Fun Romance and Great Narrator – Audiobook Review
This was my first Lisa Becker book, but it won’t be my last! I loved the premise of this book and how Ryan believed in Fate and Romance. He believed that he was meant to be with the woman that he saw on the Subway and tried everything to find her. I loved his character and what kind of loving and emotional man he was. I enjoyed his and Angie’s journey through the search for the Subway Girl and how they got to know each other. I found this story really fun, loving and it had me laughing out loud at times. I couldn’t stop listening to the story until I finished it. The other characters were also great in the book. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series! Erin Mallon is a great narrator and has a fantastic male voice as well as her own female voice. I would definitely recommend this audiobook!
This book is the Perfect Storm for me! All my favorites and none of my dislikes!
Fate shows up in mysterious ways and this book shows a perfect example. I really like these characters and all the banter between them. There are parts that had me laughing and others that had me so annoyed I needed to shake someone. Narration is really good for this book too. A fun listen for sure.

The Subway Girl
The Subway Girl, Book 1
By: Lisa Becker
Narrated by: Erin Mallon
This book is an enjoyable delight! I loved everything about it, from Lisa Becker’s wonderful writing style to the storylines and characters she created to Erin Mallon fabulous narration. The story is original with interesting storylines that grabbed my attention right from the start and held it straight to the end. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored Ryan Carlson, a hopeless romantic with charm and a lot of heart. What he was willing to do to find the girl she had a brief encounter with in the NYC Subway. He knew she was the “one”, his “one”. Angie Prince a reporter at Celebrity Monger thinks she has found the story that will make her career, she gets Ryan on broad and she starts a social media frenzy in search of his Subway girl. I loved this premise, it was getting a great response and was taking on a life of its own. But the web producer wanted more and started manipulating Angie’s idea to stir up drama, including bringing in Ryan’s cheating ex amongst other things. I am keeping things vague because it is best to go in spoiler free. This story is brilliantly plotted and there is never a dull moment. There is drama, some great humor and bantering dialogue, some heartfelt and emotional moments, some twists and turns all leading to an amazing friendship and romance. Sometimes things happen for a reason and you do find what you are looking for. Lisa Becker, thank you for another awesome story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Erin Mallon is perfectly casted to bring this story and it’s characters to life. She is a talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. She performs the voices for all the characters, covers both the male and female roles with perfection, giving each their own unique sound which makes it easy to follow along. She effortlessly handles all the back and forth banter and lands the humor without missing a beat. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another awesome listen

The Subway Girl, Book 1

Have you ever seen that person that you never met and wonder what would have happened if you approached them? Ryan sees his mysterious Subway girl, but she gets off at her stop before he gets the chance to talk to her. Now with the help of Angie and social media, he is on his way to finding his dream girl. He just doesn’t know what his dream girl really is. Fun, flirty, and relevant, Becker pens a story that has a little bit of everything. It has great friendships, fantastic humor, rising passion, social media blunders and the romance of a lifetime. This is a refreshing listen and perfect for the summer! I loved it.
Erin Mallon brings it all to life with her extraordinary narration. I love her voice and every time I listen, find myself just relaxing and enjoying. I know she understands her characters and gives them the feelings and inflections to make the story magic.

Favorite Quotes:
“Three G-er?” asked Diego. “You know. Like Luke here,” Ryan said. “Get in. Get off. Get out.”
There’s the telephone. The telegraph. And the tell Edna.
I also cut the crotch out of his favorite Tom Ford suit. Figured since he couldn’t keep it in his pants, I would make sure he wouldn’t be able to keep it in his pants.
“Sometimes, I wonder just how well I really know you,” Ryan said. “I’m an enigma.” Luke shrugged. “That is true,” said Ryan. Diego quietly chuckled to himself. Luke scowled. “I said enigma, not enema.”
Okay, here’s the plan. We’re gonna spend five minutes sharing our feelings like a bunch of teenage girls, and then we’re gonna go do a bunch of manly shit like chop down a tree with a crosscut saw…
My parents have been married so long that Mom finishes most of Dad’s sentences. She also starts most of them and fills in the middle, too.
“If he ever hurts you,” she said, gesturing to her brother, “tell me, so I can kick him in the balls.” Ryan winced and shook his head. “No worry,” said Angie. Ryan sagged in relief. “I’ll cut them off well before you would ever get the chance.”
My Review:
This was smirk-worthy good fun with lots of clever humor, witty banter, amusing scenarios, vile villains, and a few side orders of sensual steam that had me breathing funny. The characters were endearing and likable although Angie’s professional choices weren’t admirable in the least. I vastly enjoyed the levity provided by banter and exchanges of Ryan, Luke, and Diego and look forward to more of their interactions in subsequent installments.
Thank you Lisa Becker for the opportunity to read The Subway Girl! As we all try to navigate life through shelter-in-place, I find comfort in reading. This romantic comedy has many characters, but Ryan, the small-town sweet hottie will capture your heart as he goes through extreme lengths to look for ‘the one’.
The Subway Girl is not to be missed. Ryan has made it his mission to find the girl he spots on the subway. Angie is a reporter and is going to help Ryan find the girl in hopes of helping herself with work. Once these two set out to find the mysterious girl I could not put this book down. It’s sweet, sexy and fun!!!
The Subway Girl was an entertaining, sweet, and beautifully written story. It was unique and I really enjoyed reading it.
I loved Ryan, so much. I wanted to hug him, protect him and hide him from other characters in his book. He was so precious, so adorable, sweet, and kind. Definitely my favorite character from this book.
I liked Angie, but even though I could understand some of her actions that doesn’t mean I always liked or agreed with them.
I liked Ryan’s and Angie’s friends, especially Ryan’s, but other characters were not really likable and mean, but they made this book more interesting.
I just wanted more of Angie and Ryan together. I loved their friendship but I wanted to see more of them in a relationship.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 Hearts
The Subway Girl is Lisa Becker’s newest standalone romance. I have enjoyed and loved Lisa’s books over the last few years. It’s fun that her stories are so unique. I didn’t read the synopsis so I had no idea what this book was about and that always adds to the suspense.
Ryan saw her and just had to meet her. There was something about her. He knew it was fate but then he lost her on the platform. He decided then that he would do anything to see her again. So when a gossip site somehow saw his story and offered to help, he couldn’t say no. And the woman to help him find his Subway Girl is a tough as nails New Yorker with wit and sass, it’s an even bigger challenge. Let the games begin…
Angie couldn’t believe this guy. He was a genuinely nice guy that believed in fate and love. He was like a unicorn compared the men she has met. At first she thought he would be a creeper but he was just so sweet and really wanted to find this girl. And she would do anything to do it. She needed this story to work. She needed the money. She needed the exposure so she could write real stories. Will they find Ryan’s Subway Girl?
Who is Subway Girl, really?
Awe!! This story is fun, flirty, and unique. Ryan is seriously so damn cute. Angie is a badass with a side of sweetness. It was fun to see their other sides. And, the secondary characters? I want more! I am really hoping this turns into a series. I love Ryan but I am also in love with his friend Luke, the flirt.
Quotes:
“Come on,” Luke implored. “Take a break. We’ll meet you at Malone’s on Greenpoint Avenue at eight. I would pick you up, but my license got suspended for driving all the ladies crazy.”
“Okay, here’s the plan. We’re gonna spend five minutes sharing our feelings like a bunch of teenage girls, and then we’re gonna go do a bunch of manly shit like chop down a tree with a crosscut saw,” said Luke.
“You didn’t plan this whole thing, did you? To teach me a lesson?” Angie asked as she got back into the driver’s seat.
“No.” He laughed. “But you deserve to be taught a lesson, Lightning McQueen.”
“Ka-chow!” she called, in homage to the movie, as she peeled away from the shoulder and continued to race down the highway.
