Crushing on the Substitute!
OMG! The chemistry and sexual tension through this book was insane! I loved it right from the beginning and quickly became addictive. The audio version of this book definitely brought it to a whole other level. These narrators were perfect in bringing Payton and Maddy’s story to life. Amazingly written in dual POV, Mickey Miller brings another unputdownable romance in these characters you cant help fall in love with.
This was a new author to me, book was decent but a little predictable at times. I think I liked Peyton more than Maddy. She could be so wishy washy at times. I mean I understood why Maddy was hesitant but she kinda took Peytons feelings for granted. She just assumed he wanted casual because he’d be going back to Dallas. Peyton seemed genuine about his feelings of course he could be a bit cocky at times. And he’d joke when things got serious. But I genuinely liked him.
He definitely brought Maddy out of her shell. She was to much a people pleaser and didn’t want to upset anyone. She let others decide things for her but didn’t stand up for herself when she didn’t agree. Peyton got her to think more for herself, in the end she finally did something for herself and went after Peyton. They were so cute together and they definitely had some great chemistry, with some hot sexy times. So overall a good read and will definitely check out more by this author.
Mickey Miller has done it again! I have to say this is my favorite book of his so far! It has everything in it, Friends to lovers, Sports, and a lot of angst and steam!
lookin in from the outside, Peyton is your typical handsome, cocky athlete, while Maddy is your typical good girl next door.
These two grew up together and were close friends, but now that Peyton has come back to his hometown after being gone 10 years, there’s a lot that’s changed between him and Maddy!
chemistry is off the charts with this one!
The Substitute is a definite winner!
I have been a fan of Mickey Millers books for a while and The Substitute is now my favorite!
I absolutely loved this story! It will grab you from page one and hold you there until the end. It was a fun, light read. The characters were sweet and warm and you wanted to find their happily ever after.
Peyton, the champion NFL football player, does a pretty good job of hiding his sweet, sensitive side from Maddy when he returns to his hometown. He knows that his return is only temporary but now that he is back he realizes he still wants her. He has watched and wanted Maddy for years but she was dating his best friend in high school.
Maddy has been recently dumped by her long time and only boyfriend, his high school best friend. Neither of them want to cross that line, but the chemistry they have together can’t be ignored and now Maddy finally has a chance to find out what it feels like to truly be in love.
Any time I see Mickey Miller’s name on a book I know it is synonymous with a freaking amazing story, and The Substitute was no exception! This best friend’s ex, girl next door sports romance has it all. He’s the substitute Spanish teacher back in his small town while the NFL is on strike, and she is the often slighted yet hard working third grade teacher of his dreams – but while neither teaches chemistry, they certainly have it! I laughed, cried, cringed, and smiled my way through every raw moment between Maddy and Peyton.
This is a great friends to lovers sports romance. Peyton coming back home and working in the same school as Maddy shook things up a bit especially with him being her ex’s best friend. Their story is a push and pull relationship for a good while and there’s guaranteed laughs with their banter. The storyline held strong throughout the book and the pace was set comfortably where you wanted to know what will happen next and keep turning those pages. Guaranteed HEA and no cliffhanger.
I have read every single one of Mickey Miller’s books and I’m a HUGE fan. With each new story he brings us we get so enthralled that we gave to see how they end. This story in no different, we meet Maddy and Peyton. Both are hiding their feelings about each other and not sure how to let people know. They describe in perfect detail of how to care and love for each other but it the end find the wrong words that are needed. This one will be his most popular story and I can’t wait to read what he brings us next. Keep up the fabulous work. I give it 5+ stars
This is definitely one of Mickey’s best books! There were times when I wanted to shake some sense into Maddy and throttle Eric and their families. I laughed, smiled and cried while reading this book. There was a lesson or two to be learned along the way, things are not always as they seem and all celebrities aren’t focused on themselves.
With the NFL on strike Peyton heads back to the small town he grew up in. His grandmother has Alzheimer’s so he wants to spend some time with her. He has managed to secure a position at the school as coach of the football team and as a substitute Spanish teacher. The locals receive him with open arms, more than happy to have a celebrity in their midst.
Maddy is a 3rd grade teacher and is not happy that Peyton has taken over the classroom that should be hers. He’s also the best friend of Eric her boyfriend since they were 14. Although he dumped her to travel through South America. Peyton and Maddy have some powerful magnetism which they both fight until they become each other’s dirty little secrets.
Great cover, intriguing blurb! Author Mickey Miller did a fabulous job of writing in dual point of view! I enjoyed how Maddy & Peyton had a history, but it’s not a second chance story. They had a familiarity, but a newness as well. I was thrilled that they came up with a solution for a child in their classes, when they could have turned a blind eye to a need. I also liked how the author brought an awareness to a growing disease in our country. Peyton’s grandmother deserve compassion and care and he stepped up to the plate, just as she had done for him. This was an all around great story and enjoyable to read!
I get sucked into these friends to lovers reads, love it!!! Things sure get very interesting and steamy when Peyton and Maddy meet again. Peyton a pro footballer comes home while the team is on strike, Maddy is a teacher and was dumped by her longtime boyfriend Eric (who needed to trek across South America) who also was Peyton’s bestfriend in highschool. Sparks fly and the line is crossed when Peyton and Maddy becomes more then friends. Loved this book and worth every star!!
Another winning story by Mickey Miller. I loved this story. The characters were deep, thoughtful and well written. I love it when a book can surprise me, and this one certainly did!!
This was my first romance book written by a man and it did not disappoint. This was a steamy read with a good story line.
I will be in the minority’s here. I didn’t finish this book. I found Maggie annoying and whiney. Twenty six years old and still living at home with no boy friend, no plans, no friend to room with? Her employment situation was just ridiculous, no school would allow students in an unsafe classroom as she was placed. Peyton’s character had potential but fell short. Too snarky, and full of himself with no humble side. I stopped reading at the bar scene when they were in Grand Rapids.
An amazing friends to lovers sports romance from the talented Mickey Miler! He has blown me away with this one.
Payton and Maddy’s story is well developed and are true perfection in this story. There is a history to them. This story will take you on an emotional roller coaster. Payton is now an NFL player who finds himself back home while the league is on strike taking a substitute teacher at the same school as Maddy. Maddy is getting ready for the upcoming school year excited until she is tested by the principle, Eric her ex and her parents. Maddy is a strong willed heroin that learns more about her self as their story unfolds. I am a total fan of Maddy and Peyton.
