Arlie Montgomery is no stranger to tragedy. In fact, tragedy brought Arlie everything she’d ever dreamed of in one fell swoop. As a thriller author, Arlie should’ve had it easy. Growing up in the town of Crimson Falls, there was no shortage of inspiration, after all. When her husband’s tragic death becomes national news, Arlie’s failing career skyrockets overnight. Suddenly she has everything she … she has everything she ever wanted, except the man she’d hoped to share her dream with.
As she approaches the anniversary of her husband’s death, Arlie finds a stranger in the woods outside of her town. A man with no memory of who he is or why he came to Crimson Falls. Desperate and lonely, Arlie takes him into her home.
With the town’s own anniversary—the cursed Founders Day—drawing near, crime levels rise and the annual murders begin. This year, the deaths take on a new twist: the killer is copying the murders from Arlie’s books.
As suspicions surrounding the stranger grow, Arlie must solve the mysteries she’s spent years writing. In a race against time, Arlie must stop the killer she may have created before he takes out the last victim from her books—her.

Once again Kiersten took me on a ride through the unknown, what I thought was going to happen so didn’t happen! Kiersten holds to her name “Queen of suspense”!! Kiersten knows how to bring her stories to life, so full of suspense, she leaves me wanting more!
The Stranger in the Woods is part of A Crimson Falls Novella series, they are all standalone’s and there is no reading order for the series. Kiersten Modglin is one of my go to authors, she always keeps me at the edge of my seat and she did not disappoint with Mason’s and Arline’s story.
This book was amazing! I am completely in shock!
It was thrilling and intense, and I would definitely recommend it!
Good Golly Miss Molly, hold on to your seats this book will take you for a ride you were not expecting! Stranger in the Woods is just what it seems well sort of with a twist you won’t see coming until it smacks you upside the head with a pan.
Kiersten Modglin is in my opinion the ultimate queen of twists that get ya right when you are least expecting it. Just when you think you have everything figured out and are rooting for the couple nope she has you fooled. But I love that about her writing style, the mystery to it all is what is so captivating to me, she sucks you in and spits you out and your thinking what just happened.
Arlie is a writer in a little town called Crimson falls that is known for its not so great beginnings, there are always mysteries afoot, with horrible things happening on founders day, but this time Arlie find herself in the middle of a big problem when she rescues a man wondering and wounded she must see if she can help him while keeping her sanity in check.
Mason Beaumont or that is the name given to him by Arlie has no recollection of what has happened to him, he’s not sure where he is from or what he did for a living, but since his arrival strange things have been happening that are to coincidental to Arlies books. But he is willing to protect her even if he isn’t too sure about himself.
“She was trapped in the life she’s wished for, the life she hadn’t realized she could hate so much”
This story will pull you in and have you guessing till the very end. There’s a few surprises that you won’t even see that they’re coming. This book has plenty of suspense and mystery. As you read you think you have it figured out but then there’s a twist or a turn that’ll have you guessing again. Then that ending was a total mind blower that you’d never even know was coming. This is a read you won’t want to miss.
Hells Bells Bat Man!! This is my first read of the Crimson Falls 8 book series and man oh man ohhhh mannnn did this author create a doozy of a mind blowing read. This sucka is off the chains and if the rest of the standalone reads are close I don’t know how I will make it through them. This one here?!?! Oh man get ready for a read that just strings you along. Makes you all jittery looking for things that aren’t there, waiting for that day when the town’s curse rears it’s ugly head and lives become collateral losses. This author spins a tale that will literally have you chasing your tale amazed at the outcome. I can’t say more but believe me when I say there is so much more to the story than meets the eye. I devoured this read in one sitting I couldn’t move or put it down because I felt like I would miss something, don’t laugh cause you will see. This is an awesome read from an author who knows how to pull you in, slam you around, twist it up til you have no idea what’s up or down, real or imagined. Get ready cos the stranger in the woods is all that and a bag of sunflower seeds.
The Stranger in the Woods (A Crimson Falls Novella) by Kiersten Modglin
is a very well written novella. I became involved very quickly as Kiersten Modglin weaved the spell around her words making sure we would not want to set this book down. The prose is crisp, the characters well-fleshed out, the dialogue believable, and the twists in the plot genuinely surprising. The mystery started out with a bang and continues to grow all the way to the end. She blew my mind with this one. I have read some of her other works but this one.. Wow is all I can say. I am not one to give out spoilers or such but let me tell you I had no clue who did it until the very end. This novella is a must read.
