Utterly unique in its astonishing intimacy, as jarringly frightening as when it first appeared, Ann Rule’s The Stranger Beside Me defies our expectation that we would surely know if a monster lived among us, worked alongside of us, appeared as one of us. With a slow chill that intensifies with each heart-pounding page, Rule describes her dawning awareness that Ted Bundy, her sensitive coworker on … on a crisis hotline, was one of the most prolific serial killers in America. He would confess to killing at least thirty-six young women from coast to coast, and was eventually executed for three of those cases. Drawing from their correspondence that endured until shortly before Bundy’s death, and striking a seamless balance between her deeply personal perspective and her role as a crime reporter on the hunt for a savage serial killer — the brilliant and charismatic Bundy, the man she thought she knew — Rule changed the course of true-crime literature with this unforgettable chronicle.

She has written many good true crime books. This is one of the best.
Unnerving-
A must for any true crime fan…
Wonderful book but all Ann Rule books are great
I love her books. They’re riveting and somewhat scary because they’re real.
Great read.
True crime. Ann Rule investigates every crime she writes about and translates the details into a clear and chilling book that helps the reader understand the criminal and victim/victims. Great reads.
Well written as all oof Rule’so books. Amazing that she worked along side him and considered him a friend.
Great book into mind of a devious man!
I’m going to miss Ann Rule, she knew how to write true crime so you felt involved.
Absolutely chilling true story where author actually became friends with the eventually revealed killer. This set Ann on her path of researching and writing about murderers and what drives them. She can pen a simply horrible crime with all the relevant detail without turning your stomach. An incredible author that is missed by the literary community.
One of Ann Rule’s best! She is the master of true crime.
I thought that the book was well written. It was also very informative.
One of the first and best true crime books about serial killer Ted Bundy.
At the top of the genre, resides Ann Rule. Wonderful writing about a true monster.
I liked her writing of the book but it was a tragic real life story
If you like true crime you will like this. Easy read.
This is the grandmommy of all serial killer true crime books and it is just about perfect. Read it years ago and my skin still crawls.
I read this years ago but from my memory it was very well written. I have read most of Ann Rules books but this was an exception read as she knew Ted bundy personally. She tells the story from a more personal perspective. If you like true crime this is a book you will want to read.
I have read ALL of Ann Rule’s books and believe she is one of THE BEST true crime writers EVER! So sad we won’t be reading anymore new books from her.
