A nice quick read.
Enjoyed this book very much. It keeps your attention from the beginning. The story flows from the start.I like that it connected the California Legends series to the De Ware family from Scotland.
This is a nice change from the usual story line that Ms Campbell writes. It is a little more modern and set on a boat. It is a sweet quick read, with a bit of mystery, adventure and of course romance. And when you throw in an adorable dog. You have all you want in a story. There is nothing in this book that you won’t enjoy. I received this as an ARC and was more than happy to do a review.

My review :
When an unintentional stowaway goes from despicable to hero of a the day, will it be enough to save the woman he came to care for …
When I received a Bookbub notification for this upcoming release, just the series’ name did it for me.
I so adored the trilogy of California Legends, I could not pass this one, a prequel.
At first I was confused as the premises of the book were set in Scotland, then they embark for a long journey to America.
Charlotte is a clever and well taught miss thanks to indulging parents, yet she was quite naive about her brother’s misdeeds. And does not question why he sends her in America.
Travis was whisked away by his friends to save his hide, how he finds himself a stowaway with only his hands and hard work to pay for his passage.
This is how he meets the delightful and intriguing Charlotte, but his reputation as a profligate precedes him why they find themselves dancing around the other as trust is not easily given and won.
Yet during the weeks on their way to America, their relationship finds its own balance, it was sweet to see them grow on the other and read about Campbell’s mischiefs, Travis’ dog.
Up to them to decide what they want, if fate does not decide to tear them apart.
This fast read is sweet and entertaining, full of insights about medicine and botanical knowledge and how some diseases were seen alas from the narrowed minds of the men.
5 stars for this short tale telling the story of the grandparents of Native Gold’s heroine.

A ship on the way from Scotland to America contains a lady who was abandoned on the ship by her brother; a surgeon stowed away in a chest by his friends; and the surgeon’s terrier, who jumps on the ship as it is leaving the dock so he can be with his master. Really good story with very interesting twists. What happens when they get to New York was unexpected. I received an ARC of this prequel about the ancestors of the characters in the California Gold series.
This quick read by Glynnis Campbell is such a delight. It has wonderfully complex and unique characters, an original story line and as is usually the case with this author, excellent writing. Charlotte and Travis don’t know each other when they both find themselves victims of circumstance and both independently decide to make the best of their horrible situation. Their meeting and subsequent relationship evolves (with a little help from a cute dog) over the weeks spent on a transatlantic journey neither of them planned to take. The end of their journey brings about a separation and each of them once again finds themselves in a place and situation they could not have imagined. How they ultimately find each other again and how this development leads to the all important HEA is what makes this one so charming and makes this reader so anxious to read the next book in this series. HIGHLY recommend.
This story has so much going on, Charlotte de Ware, was left in the care of her older brother George,
when her parents go to Oxford to visit her oldest brother. While they are away George does not feel any responsibility to do what he should, instead fills his days with gambling, women and drink.
Charlotte is only a year younger, and knows that he is losing to much and that her parents would not approve but what is she to do. When he tells her their parents are no coming home for Christmas and wants them to go to New York and spend it with a cousin she has never heard of . She doesn’t care
as she has always wanted to go the Elgin Botonic Gardens and now she will have a chance.
She is happy and excited about the trip. When they board the ship, George takes his leave to talk to the captain while she goes to look around the ship. While watching the ship leave port she see’s a small dog
running for the ship and jumps aboard almost not making it. The little guy runs off before she can reach him.
While looking for the dog, she ends up in the cargo hold, where the dog-Campbell is there barking at a sealed crate. As she tries to stop him the Captain comes to see what is going on just as the crate breaks open and a handsome young man jumps out with nothing on but his short clothes?!
The Captain wants to throw him over board for stealing onto his ship. As the stowaway Travis Jameson
tries to explain, cover his body and hold the dog Charlotte jumps in that he can stay in their cabin.
With her family’s name, the Captain lets him stay.
Ah now the story gets really interesting as these two learn about each other find out lies, mistrust,
the mystery of what happen to George, and the unthinkable that will happen to Charlotte.
Will their be a happy ever after, or nothing but sadness for both.
You will need to read this lovely Christmas story to find out, it is a great start to the California Legends.
I received and ARC from the author and want to thank her.
I am voluntary giving my honest review of this book.
The Stowaway by Glynnis Campbell
Sweet story about Travis and Charlotte and of course Campbell. They all meet on a ship bound for New York. Charlotte rescued both Campbell (dog) and Travis by following Campbell to ensure he was safe in the hold and discovered he was laying by a large chest and he refused to leave. She at first believed it was a casket but it moved and she realized it held someone or something inside. Travis broke free startling her and drawing the attention of the first mate. He was very mad and wanted the Stowaway dealt with and then Charlotte stepped up and vouched for the stowaway. The first mate told her, “not the dog but the man”. lol She still vouched for him but he chose to work for his passage. They meet up a few times innocently until the ship is in a terrible storm. Then their relationship….. read to find out what happens next! It was so good I could barely put it down for the short time I did today while binge reading this book. Sweet love story!
A delightful tale set on a packet ship bound for America in 1810. Imagine finding yourself uprooted from your home in Scotland on short notice, placed aboard a small ship traveling for weeks across the Atlantic Ocean and ending up in New York City under mysterious circumstances. Charlotte is bright, beautiful and a woman way ahead of her time. Her curiosity and love of botany make her a woman with depth and character. She’s the kind of woman we all wish we could be, especially under oppressive circumstances. Travis, another shipmate, finds himself aboard the same packet ship, also under mysterious circumstances. You will fall in love with Travis. He’s the perfect blend of rascal and gentleman. The two passengers and a furry little friend will capture your attention and make you want to read every last word in one sitting. It’s a quick read that blends historical accuracy with a classic HEA. It’s a great prequel to the fabulous California Legends series.
The Stowaway (California Legends Book 0) by Glynnis Campbell is an enchanting Regency Romance, set from Scotland, aboard a ship bound for America. A novella and a quick read.
Follow, notorious Scottish rake, Travis Jameson, who unwittingly becomes a stowaway on a ship bound for America. And Charlotte de Ware, an amateur botanist, also bound for America.
Well written and well crafted with charming and enjoyable characters. The storyline will grab you from the start, as the characters are maneuvered around, by secrets, deception, a brother’s betrayal, romance, HEA, love, and a cute, lovable dog.
Readers will not be disappointed in THE STOWAWAY. The beginning of what promises to be an exciting series. A definite keeper! This story will definitely steal your heart. I couldn’t pick it down, read it in one setting. A sweet romantic adventure!

A novella written in the quintessential style that is uniquely Glynnis Campbell’s. Charlotte is a strong willed and curious young lady. This leads her on an unexpected adventure where she meets the stowaway surgeon Travis and his intrepid puppy Campbell. This becomes the start of the new Scottish generation in the United States and the start of this great new series. A delightful read that will inspire you to science and love.
Charlotte is a well thought out character and she seems a little naïve when her brother, George decides to go take her to New York to visit an aunt, especially when she discovers George isn’t even on the ship.
Travis Jameson is a doctor and when he gets caught in a lady’s bedroom by her husband, he is caught and challenged to a duel. His friends decide he will be killed if he goes through with it, so they give him something to knock him out and stuff him in a trunk and put him on the ship. He is funny and exasperating at times.
The adventure of the sea voyage and the misunderstandings between the two of them make a wonderful account of the road to happily ever after.
I received and ARC from the author and I am voluntary giving my honest review of this book.
Charming and fun to read! 4.5 stars
I enjoyed Glynnis Campbell’s charming story ‘The Stowaway’. This novella has wonderful characters and a great plot. I had a hard time putting it down because the characters Charlotte and Travis are so sweet and charming!
