To restore peace in the Borders between Scotland and England, two kings have betrothed Lady Hilaire Eliot to a cursed, thrice-widowed knight known as The Dire Dragan. Headstrong Hilaire will do anything to escape that fate, even confront her fear of the dark by fleeing her besieged castle through an ancient tunnel. Her bridegroom, Giric mac Leod, is just as determined to claim his rightful bride. … bride. But when he storms her fortress, his reckless actions trap him in an underground rockslide. The dispirited knight welcomes death’s embrace…until he hears the one sound he can’t ignore—the call of a maiden in distress.
GLYNNIS CAMPBELL is a USA Today bestselling author of swashbuckling action-adventure romance. She’s the wife of a rock star, and the mother of two young adults, but she’s also been a ballerina, a typographer, a film composer, a piano player, a singer in an all-girl rock band, and a voice in those violent video games you won’t let your kids play. She does her best writing on cruise ships, in Scottish castles, on her husband’s tour bus, and at home in her sunny southern California garden. Glynnis loves to play medieval matchmaker, transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is alive and well!

Great book
short but could not have been longer and kept integrity. Regards one incident in time and is deep and ultimately heartwarming. I cried a lot but had happy ending. wonderful book
Love all of her books! So happy to see another series in the works!
As a novella, the story was beautifully written and sweet. I definitely love Campbell’s work.
It was good.
This little gem was such a delightful surprise. A boy and a girl trapped in a situation that could very well bring about their deaths. Cloaked in total darkness, they must rely on each other to keep the the absolute terror and despair from overtaking them. And as is her way, Glynnis Campbell allows the reader to discover the true character and heart of these two people as they learn about each other in this terrifying situation. LOVED the connection to the other book I just read by this author … something else she does exceedingly well. Highly recommend.
Loved it.
What a GREAT story! This book was soooo good! I was up half the night reading this wonderful story, which was unique in that the H and h were alone together throughout due to a tunnel collapse. It was so endearing. I liken their happily ever after to the heart-warming feelings I had with my favorite Disney fairy tales (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, etc.). Simply wonderful!
I really loved this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat. A must read!
Great read!
Great story and start for the series!
Enjoyed this book very much as I found myself totally engrossed in the story. The intended English Lady of a feared Scottish Knight decides to flee in the underground passage of the castle to avoid marriage. Finding the castle closed against him, The Dire Dragen decides to dig under the castle wall. As the wall collapses, he finds himself buried in a tomb with the woman he’s suppose to marry. Their thoughts of death bring them together in an attempt to grab at life, but will a secret keep them apart. Very intense with a resolution. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC in exchange for a free copy.
Wonderful, Delightful & Romantic
A Wonderful & Romantic Novella.
The Dire Dragan (Giric Mac Leod) was gossiped about, people said he murdered his 3 wives.
Hilarie decided to flee once The Dire Dragan was taking siege on her home. As Giric decided to tunnel into the castle ended up making the tunnel collapse around him. After hearing Hilarie crying, he fought to find her.
This Story was so Wonderful, I couldn’t put the Book down.
OH Wow what a wonderful love story… this is the prelude to the new series, “The Warrior Daughters of Rivenloch.”
I wish I had read this one first, but it is still a wonderful tale of how gossip, and rumors even in the 1136 could ruin lives. Lady Eliot Hilaire is fleeing thru a hidden tunnel from her father and her betrothed. The king has arranged marriage to the Dire Dragan, Giric mac Leod. She has never met him, but the rumors and gossip is he has killed three wives already !! People say he is cursed. She doesn’t want to be the fourth. So Hilaire and her nurse take to the tunnels but unknown to them is that Giric/Claw is also using the tunnels as a way to enter the castle and get his bride.
Neither of them thought about how old the tunnel is so as Claw tries to tunnel in and she out they cause a cave in leaving them both buried under tons of rock and dirt. Claw feels this is his due, till he hears Hilaire’s cries for help. Hilaire has always been claustrophobia, and is in desperation now being alone in the dark.
She trust him to get them out and feels safe as long as Claw is near and she is not alone in the dark.
There is attraction and desire for both of them as they try to find away out, as they learn each other secrets in the dark and gloom. This is a lovely story of hope, faith and redemption. The only bad thing about this book was it was way too short. This is a love story you don’t want to miss. After reading this one you will really want to read The Fire Bride, and then the short Christmas story, A Rivenloch Christmas…. both are simply wonderful
Glynnis has done it again….enjoy..
I like the author but this book was not all the enjoyable. not one of her best.
Quite a surprise. Very appropriate tittle!
Too short for
