A memorable night of passion refuses to stay just a memory in this sizzling and scandalous romance from bestselling author T L Swan.I was upgraded to first class on a flight from London to New York. The food, champagne, and service were impeccable. The blue-eyed man sitting next to me, even better. He was suave and intelligent. We talked and laughed, and something clicked. Fate took over and the … and something clicked.
Fate took over and the plane was grounded, and we had an unexpected stopover for the night.
With no plans, we made our own.
We danced and laughed our way around Boston and had a night of crazy passion that no woman would ever forget.
That was twelve months ago, and I haven’t heard from him—until today.
I started a new job and met the CEO. You can imagine my surprise to see those naughty blue eyes dance with delight when he saw me across the mahogany desk.
But I’m not that carefree girl anymore. My life has changed, I have responsibilities.
I just got an email.
He wants to see me in his office for a private meeting at 8:00 a.m.
Naughty blue eyes have no place in the workplace.
What kind of private meeting does he have in mind?

I lucked out and got an ARC on this one and I’m totally calling this one – the rest of the year be damned. I know there’s still 3 months in 2019 but I’m totally putting this down as my personal favorite read of the year. Yes, I’ve read some other great books, but T.L. Swan gave me everything I always wanted and never knew I did in The Stopover. Maybe that’s because I’m usually the Dark Reads girl and this was definitely not that but Jim, Jay, Jamison Miles – I am here to tell the world I am completely in love with you, no matter how delusional that makes me sound!
The Stopover starts with just that – a flight that is going from London to NYC but gets way laid and ends up having to fly into Boston for the night due to weather. Emily Foster, a young and feisty thing is flying back from London in coach but after an incident in the airport, she’s bumped up to first class. And it’s there that she meets the slightly older, incredibly hot guy that’s seated next to her. From the very get go, these two are funny as hell. If they aren’t bantering or arguing, they’re flirting up a storm. The internal monologues from Emily’s side since she occupies the first chapters had me cracking up and ‘Jim’, her travel companion for the flight had me cracking up with half his dialogue. Between the two of them, you literally get sucked in from the very first chapter and from there, there’s not a place in the book that you find yourself slipping out. When they get deferred to Boston, they end up spending the night together and to say that it’s mind-blowing, off the walls sex for them with a one of a kind chemistry would be an entirely accurate statement. However, morning comes and they go their own ways – Jim to NYC and Emily, having missed her job interview in NYC back to LA. No numbers exchanged, just a crazy transatlantic flight and a night to remember.
12 months later, Emily lands her dream job in NYC as a journalist at Miles Media and what would you know? Jim just happens to be Jamison Miles, the CEO of the biggest media conglomerate in the nation and Emily’s boss’s boss’s boss. When she’s taken to the upper floors to get the tour and meet management, Jamison is in and he recognizes her on the spot. Jamison has never forgotten that night a year ago and he let’s Emily know that he hasn’t and that he’s more than interested in her. So Jamison starts his rather bossy and brusque pursuit of Emily and that’s another thing that I loved about these two. Just as on the plane when he was just ‘Jim’, they’re both bossy, both headstrong and as Jamison refers to Emily at times, she can be a snarky bitch which she readily admits. Jamison is used to having anyone he wants without even trying and Emily is just not that girl. She gives as good as she gets and the back and forth between them is entertaining as hell. I’m so used to the billionaire books where the billionaire has all the control and some dark back secret that makes him put the heroine through a ton of angst and she let’s him walk all over her while secretly hoping he’ll let her in. This book refreshingly skips the usual power dynamic and unnecessary angst and puts two people together where they both stand their ground.
Jamison was a delightful alpha but when it came to Emily he was also secretly mushy as hell. He runs the gamut from scotch guzzling, uptight, bossy CEO Jamison, to slightly more relaxed and at home billionaire Jay to Emily’s ‘Jim’ when he let’s all the stress and position go and just is – that’s when he’s his lightest and most fun. Emily is completely unimpressed by the money, the power or anything that comes along with it – she fell for her Jim on the plane – and for Jamison this is an absolute first and makes Emily his one of a kind.
Of course, there’s a side drama and a huge conflict that comes along. But the B plot was well set up and there was nothing overdone or gratuitously added. Going back and looking over my highlights, it was all there for the taking and it definitely wasn’t there to pad the story. And I dug how Emily, even with where the story was at, kept herself together and took on more than most could bite off.
I could quote this book to the high heavens and God knows I have enough of them. There are some classics in here. But I’m not going to add a single one because I don’t want to ruin a single line or scene in this book for anybody that decides to read it. Where’s the fun in already having somebody giving you some of the all time best exchanges in the book? I will say that anyone that knows me knows that I don’t go in for laughter much but even with the flu I found myself laughing so hard I was literally hacking up my lungs and massively alarming the dog.
One final note: I remember reading Mr. Masters and really loving it and I skimmed a couple of her other books also but I have to say this author has evolved with this book. Massively evolved! It has two wonderful MC’s who take an organic journey filled with humor, bickering, flat out arguing, great make up sex, flirtation, lust, compromise, misunderstanding and love. I also really enjoyed some of the side characters – my God, her friend Molly has some funny moments to add in and Tristan Miles is a lovely, lovely sidepiece.
So here’s to camping in New Jersey, Bessie, Manhattan public transportation with some good old fashioned groveling and a side of Viagra Mike! Long live flight delays and really hot, bossy men!
**********10 Stars and to hell with the rating system. This is my idea of perfection.
4.5 Miles High stars
This is the first of many TL Swan books for me. The Stopover was a pleasant surprise for me. Instantly taken in by the cover and blurb, I expected a fun romp. I expected wild sex and maybe an enjoyable storyline. Boy was I lowballing T L Swan!
The Stopover was sexy. It’s hot. It has an enjoyable storyline as well. It is also an emotional upheaval and a frustrating experience rolled into a sexy whirlwind romance with an ahole of epic proportions. These two are snarky and bitter at times. They are real “New Yorkers” though one is a transplant. I love their chemistry and the push pull between them is addictive. If you aren’t at least a closeted Jameson fan by the end of this novel, then you haven’t actually read it! I have a hankering for the other Miles brothers now. It’s a terrible addiction being given a taste and taunted with other options.
“Being in love is like being on a deserted island, Jameson. You focus on them and them only, and you make everything else fit around that person.”
I have 108 Kindle highlights for this book. I’m a highlighter, that’s true, but this is a personal record. It should tell you how much I enjoyed it. I’m sure this book will (and has) frustrated some people, especially when it comes to its characters, but it’s my second TL Swan book and I loved everything about it.
“This man is everything I’m not looking for, but he’s somehow ticking every box.”
Jameson was everything. I’m not going to say he’s not an asshole, because he is. And a possessive, argumentative man, who is also a control-freak. He’s all those things. But, in his mother’s words, he’s also more heart than sense. He’s insanely protective of everyone, and when he loves, it really is all or nothing. Like I said, he has his flaws, but everything else outweighs them in my book.
“You are the most attractive woman I’ve seen in a long time, and when you smiled, it brought me to my feet.”
I had a harder time connecting to Emily. She sometimes gave me whiplash. She seems like her own woman, but what she endured with her ex showed a lack of personality I didn’t enjoy one bit. I loved that she’s “normal”, not some made up Barbie doll. I only realized later that she’s not that strong, but she’s not a pushover either. She’s a bit like all of us, and we’ve all been both things at least once in our lives. So she grew on me.
“You must have done something stupid in your life, Jameson Miles.”
He smiles softly over at me in the darkness. “Yeah. I have.”
“What?” I smirk.
He reaches over and cups my face in his hand, and his thumb dusts over my bottom lip. “I never asked for your number.”
Emily and Jameson were on the same plane, a fluke, since she got upgraded to first class. There’s definitely chemistry when they start flirting with each other, and this leads to one steamy night. He never asks for her number, and she doesn’t know who he is. It was meant to be one night only. Until a year later, when she ends up working at his company, and the memory of that night is not enough for either of them.
“I know this is supposed to be friends with benefits. But it’s not . . . it’s more. What kind of more I just don’t know.”
They start having no-strings-attached sex. And let me tell you, it’s off the charts. They can’t stop fighting each other because they’re the same: they’re both assholes who enjoy being in control, and relinquishing it scares the both of them. I loved the whole pushing and pulling, and I loved it even more when they made up, even though they would inevitably fight again.
Until something changed.
“You stayed with me. I fought it, and still, I couldn’t forget you. I’ve been carrying your scarf around like a lovesick fool for more than a year.”
We can see Emily already has feelings for him, that’s clear. But when Jameson understands how deeply he is into her, he’s all in. He wants it all.
Their camping trip was incredible, and I totally sympathize with Jameson – I’m not a nature lover, and bugs scare the crap out of me. I was laughing my ass off, though.
“Thank you,” I whisper.
Her eyes search mine.
“For what?”
“For finding me.”
Amidst all of this, there’s a power play from another family, and financial issues that precipitate a break up that should never have happened if Jameson wasn’t the person he is. If he weren’t aware that, being the workaholic, he may not be able to be with Emily the way she deserves it.
I confess I wanted to slap him around a few times, and I think it’d be justifiable.
Also, I really liked seeing the pressure and the stress that came with his job, and not just having the hero be the wealthy billionaire that does nothing but enjoy the money coming in. It was sort of refreshing.
“I swear to you, from this moment on . . . you are my everything. Our new life together . . . starts right now.”
The last 15% or so gutted me. There is so much hurt between them, and so much love at the same time. A lot of stuff went wrong in their story, and I was hurting for both of them for different reasons. But love finds a way. In this case, it wasn’t perfect, and I’m sure they’ll still be fighting and having make-up sex for years to come, but it makes sense, somehow.
Because they belong together.
What a stopover. What a book.
I adore everything about this funny, charming, endearing and emotional read. It’s everything you want in a book.
Em was returning from a friend’s wedding which was a disaster. Yet it didn’t stop at the wedding but at the airport too, but it did get her bumped to 1st class. She met Jamesone(J). Where now she will see a stranger will change her life in many ways. She’ll also change his life in many ways. But will stubbornness and revenge ruin it. Or will love take over and show them who they really are.
4* Broody Alpha Stars
I was so excited to dive into the story of Emily and Jim/Jameson because you know that you will get a sexy and feisty read and it did not disappoint.
Emily first meets Jim when she is upgraded to First Class on her way to New York for a job interview. As much as Emily tries to ignore Jim who is seated next to her, it proves to be fruitless and after a few drinks and movie watching the flirting begins and the banter between them hilarious. When the flight is diverted to Boston due to bad weather the chemistry between them is ignited and they end up spending the night together with no strings attached and Emily goes back to LA without attending her job interview.
Twelve months later Emily eventually finds her way to New York and lands her dream job at Miles Media, where her job interview had been scheduled before the diversion stopover in Boston. Unbeknown to her she crosses paths with “her” Jim who happens to be the CEO and is known to everyone as Jameson. Once again, their passion is rekindled and as hard as Emily tries to keep it at bay and professional, she is fighting a losing battle.
I enjoyed the “push and pull” between the alpha moody workaholic Jameson and feisty likeable Emily. There was some mild angst to their story as well as sizzling hot romance.
I loved their story and they kept me entertained and laughing out loud too especially the camping scene.
Emily and Jim meet on a flight to New York, where Emily is finally going to have her chance to take an interview for her dream job as a reporter for Miles media!
But fate is not (or maybe it is on her side) when due to a storm the plane is diverted to Boston and she spends the hottest sexiest night of her life with Jim, the hottest guy she’s ever met and a one night stand she can’t and probably won’t ever forget!!
Move on 1 year and she’s in New York again for her 2nd chance at a job with Miles Media! Of course she walks into the interview to none other than Jim, who is actually Jameson Miles, the CEO!!
I was thoroughly entertained by this book. Jim was definitely a man with issues!! over the top, jealous, alpha, that most of the time had me in giggles. He was definitely a handful and not only in the bedroom if you get my drift!!! Beneath his issues he really was a good guy!! T
I really liked Emily, and her no filter, she definitely wasn’t letting Jim have an easy time and challenged him at every step!! She pushed at every one of his boundaries and i loved it !!
Super supporting characters and at times even with my frustrations with Jim and Emily i found myself in fits of laughter. We get it all in this book, the serious side, the fun, and the emotional upheaval along with a mystery!
Clever and Captivating New York Romance.
This my perfect romance novel. It had just about everything I look for in a great romance and rated a 5 in just about every one of those categories. It had plenty of steam between the two main characters, dirty talk, witty repartee, bickering between the strong female heroine and the Alpha male Hero, jealously, an intriguing plot with a mystery, awesome supporting characters and more. The writing was terrific the flow and timing was excellent with no long periods where I was waiting for something to happen. I would recommend this to anyone who likes romance.
It says is is over 500 pages but it truthfully felt like only a few hundred and I rarely say that, it ever. This book went very fast with a lot of laugh out loud moments, sexy scenes and a great background storyline. It starts out with Emily Foster having a terrible day as she waits in line at the airport to check in for her flighty New York. She ends up getting bumped up to first class which has never happened before and though the guy sitting next to her let’s her have the window seat, he just won’t shut up and annoys her.
However, after talking and drinking champagne throughout the entire flight the two have become friendly. They are unable to land in New York where she has a job interview, and instead are routed to Boston for a night due to a snowstorm. After her only one night stand and the best time she has ever had, her traveling companion Jim leaves in the morning without ever asking for her number.
Fast forward one year and Emily has now had that interview at her dream job and moves to New York. On her first day at work, she meets the CEO of the company, Jameson Miles, her former one night stand. Jameson wants to pick up where they left off because he is intensely attracted to Emily. Though Emily is put off with the fact that he never even bothered to ask for her phone number. She has a boyfriend and is not interested in a few nights of fun at the expense of her dream job.
Oh my God. I have a boyfriend. Shit. “I’m so sorry if I gave you the wrong idea.” I take a step back from him. “I have a boyfriend,” I blurt out.
His face falls in horror. “What?”
“I know.” I wince. “I . . . I . . .” I shake my head because I have no words that can get me out of this. “I have a boyfriend, and I can’t go out with you.”
“Dump him,” he fires back.
“What?” I croak.
“You heard me. Dump him.” He reaches for me.
The way Jameson goes about getting Emily to agree to go out with him is pretty funny. He is a wealthy handsome Alpha male who has never heard the word “no”. So he has no idea of boundaries and it is entertaining to say the least. There is also a mystery in the office as someone In Emily’s work area is selling company secrets to the biggest competitor, who happens to be Miles’ nemesis. Emily figures out what is going on so is brought in with Jameson and his brother Tristan to help.
Tristan is one of three of Jameson’s brothers and is the head of Acquisitions at Miles Media in New York, while Elliot and Christopher both work out of the London office. Tristan is the nice guy to Jameson’s Cranky brooding type, but they work well together and Tristan plays a big part in this book. The other two do make an appearance though.
I roll my eyes in disgust. “The Miles brothers are overrated, if you ask me.”
They’re not, though. I’m lying through my teeth. All with dark hair, tall, and built . . . square jaws in their designer playboy suits. Everything about the four of them screams power and gorgeousness. Assholes.
At the end of The Stopover, we get the first Chapter of The Takeover, book 2 in the Miles High Club. If you haven’t yet guessed, since Tristan is the head of Acquisitions, this is his story and I for one, can’t wait.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Stopover begins at an airport where Emily finds herself upgraded to first class after an argument with another passenger. Emily is seated next to Jim (Jameson) and at first they do nothing but disagree. After some drinking and a long flight, they end up talking and finding some common ground and enjoy each other’s company so when they can’t land in NY, they spend their time together in bed. She is very disappointed that he leaves and never asks for her number. This is where I was left disappointed because for a book titled The Stopover, I was expecting a lot more storyline to take place here.
Now a year later, Emily has moved to NY for a new job, which happens to be Jameson’s company. Emily is not interested in reconnecting with Jameson, she is hurt and angry with him. Jameson is trying his best to insert him into Emily’s life. I really did enjoy the story and the secondary story going on. Emily and Jameson had some very steamy scenes and when they got together at first they were very good together. I was mostly annoyed when Emily caught Jameson in an awkward position with his ex-fiance but her trust in him led to her being understanding but then when Jameson sees some photos of Emily that don’t look too good, he doesn’t even trust her or give her a chance to explain. This would have been a 5 star read for me until the end where Jameson ruined it and I almost didn’t want them to end up together.
This book was recommended to me in a book group I am in. This group is all about the steamy reads and this one delivered pretty well. There is something mysterious and sexy about two strangers meeting on a plane and having a one night stand with their flight is diverted to another city over night due to weather. The chemistry between these two are off the charts and after in flight banter and flirting, they agree to take it to the next level for one night. Read on to find out just how much steam these two have, and what happens from there. It will suck you into the trilogy by Swan and have you reading all three books in the series right away.
I enjoyed the story but the drama/climax of the whole book was a bit… over dramatic for break up reasoning.
This is an interesting enough story of Emily and Jim, but it was heavy on drama and just honestly boring. The characters are likeable and it sets up the next book in the series but for such a popular book, this one doesn’t live up to the hype. It’s a perfectly nice story. It wasn’t terrible, just mediocre. There are no surprises or twists, nothing you don’t see coming, it’s all very predictable. The first book isn’t always the best because you’re building a world and introducing many characters, so I’ll probably give one of the others a try but this one was meh, at best.
I loved the beginning of this story, meeting Jim and the unknown interview was all great foreshadowing for the rest of the story!
I did feel like the story was too long as some parts were drawn out and lost my attention and I had a very hard time connecting with the female lead. She was kind of a pushover and very clingy…
Written in first person from an alternating dual POV, this is the first book in a series and can be read as a standalone.
Jameson and Emily meet on a transatlantic flight and follow it with a smoking hot one night stand. Twelve months later, they meet again when Emily gets a job at Jameson’s company. It doesn’t take long for them to reconnect. They fight, and they have s3x. There is a lot on angst and drama in their relationship. Emily is sometimes needy and ridiculous. Jameson is sometimes intentionally callous and hurtful to Emily. There are times when I really hated him for causing her pain and hated her for allowing him to hurt her again and again. I struggled to understand their relationship. It felt like the very antithesis of a healthy connection. Their chemistry, desires, and emotions were unquestionably strong, yet not always productive. On a positive note, I did like Jameson when he was soft and sweet with Emily. I also understood her desire to care for him, even at her own detriment. It was like a train wreck, and I could not look away. I am giving it four stars because I felt the need to know how it would eventually get to the HEA.
I felt like the story was drawn out a little bit, and I could have lived without some of their relationship ups and downs. I read and listened to this book through KU. I thought the narration was superb, though the book certainly gives the reader more of Emily’s POV. I would have loved more of Sebastian York as well as more of Jameson’s POV. It may have helped me like and understand Jay more. There are secondary characters who are introduced and set up for later stories. I am looking forward to Tristan and his love story. It will be my next read and listen.
What is there to say about a TL Swan book except get comfortable because you are not going to be able to stop until it’s over!!
The Stopover is the first book in her “The Miles High Club” series and it sets that bar pretty high. These Miles brothers are something to experience!
Jameson is the eldest Miles and has a lot on his plate right now, the last thing he expected was to fall for a gorgeous stranger he met on a transatlantic flight.
This is such a great read, with emotion and so much heat. TL Swan does not fade to black you will not only get a picture of what she’s writing you will get an almost movie like experience.
To put it simply, TL Swan writes good stories, they suck you in and make you care about the characters and keeps you entertained which is all I ever ask for !!
: age gap, billionaire hero, office romance, romcom and all the steam
To say I had no expectations about this one is a statement. Surprisingly, T.L Swan kept me entertained from the very first page until the last one!
Jameson Miles and Emily Foster have undeniable chemistry from the very beginning, so I’m not surprised they have such passionate nights together.
However I have to say they fought too much to the point they were toxic. The first half of the book is literally full of fights and sex, but then the second half explored their romance, and that’s when things get better.
Don’t get me wrong, I love them as a couple and how slowly they worked up to make their relationship work. My favorite part is towards the end when Jameson grovels to earn Emily’s forgiveness and how she acts hard to make him regret his mistakes (he deserve it ).
Besides the romance, there is another plot going on which is introduced in the beginning but it doesn’t get solve until the 80% of the book. I admit I didn’t see it coming, which I’m very grateful.
Overall, if you are looking for a quick romcom read with all steam and right groveling, you need to read the stopover asap. It’s totally worth it!!!
3.5 STARS
In the last few months, T.L. Swan’s books were highly recommended by fellow readers on social medias. I finally decided to see what all the hype was about and read my first book from this author. The Stopover was an okay read for me with some great moments and others that kind of dimished my overall appreciation of the story.
At first, I really enjoyed the banter between Emily and Jameson. The push and pull was interesting and their chemistry intense. After a while though, I felt it was redundant between them and sometimes both heroes acted juvenile. Despite these little critics, I enjoyed the overall plot that kept me reading until the end.
I’ll definitely check out the next books in the Miles High Club Series, because I’m intrigued about the other Miles brothers.
OMG I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK.!!!!!
I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT…and basically that is all there is to say.
I have never laughed so much in my entire life reading a book.
But it was not only the laughs it gave me but the whole story just had me totally transfixed.
I adored the characters Emily and Jameson..their bickering was brilliant they really drove eachother crazy…Jameson is so moody and broody, always snapping and he is used to getting his own way,but he meets his match with Emily she is so feisty and has a temper she made me giggle….But their attraction and chemistry was at a combustable level, they were so hot together.I Loved them.
…And it all began on a Stopover…
Oh and Emily’s friends Molly and Aaron were great too they were loyal to Emily and were also hilarious.
I really enjoyed T.L.Swan’s writing,I relished the humour ,the emotion, and the complex characters and intriguing plot.
The Stopover is an Incredible read and I Highly recommend it
5 Star Brilliant.
The Stopover is book 1 in the Miles High Club series. This was my first read by TL Swan. I really enjoyed this story. Strong connection and intense chemistry between J and Em. They connect and have an incredible night during a layover before they go their separate ways. A year later they come across each other’s paths again when she lands a new job at his media firm. Sparks and attraction are still strong and they decide to start a more casual relationship until feelings become too strong. It’s not a smooth ride to a HEA, but they finally find their way to each other. Highly recommend!
This book was awful. It was a DNF for me. I tried reading it. I tried listening to the audio. The female narrator’s voice was cringe worthy. I totally attributed that to the character she was reading.
I honestly thought the beginning of the book was kind of cute and flirty. Then Emily started tripping’ about phone numbers. Sheesh, you met dude on a plane, if you want his number you should have asked for it.
Jameson turns into stalker guy which was unnerving. Emily was screechy, and if I come close to using the word I want, Amazon won’t post my review.
Jameson and Emily became so irritated I didn’t care what happened to them or with them. I ended up flipping through the book because I wanted to know who was stealing from Miles Media.
I read book 2 of this series first. I am glad I did. I liked Emily in book 2. She was a shrew in this book. The whole Jekyll and Hyde thing BOTH Jameson and Emily had going on was not cute, was not funny, was not attractive.
This is the second book in the series I have read or tried to read. What happened to strong independent women that stand up for themselves? People that are able to communicate with one another? People who ask questions and don’t just make assumptions? Why are these women screechy, insecure, over emotional, rude and unable to communicate? Is that behavior supposed to be attractive somewhere?
The men were admittedly arrogant, but it seemed as if the arrogance, along with seeing their softer sides was part of the attraction for these women in the first place.
I hate mean spirited, hysterical, rude behavior from anyone. This book was not for me. I had planned to read Elliott’s book, but I am afraid of being disappointed again.
