Julia Lindstrom has a family who loves her, but outside circumstances make her feel like she doesn’t belong. Suffering as a teen from deep anxiety, she believes it is nature’s cosmic joke after giving her the most emotionally messy woman alive, as her mother. She lives in constant fear she will repeat the myriad mistakes that her mother has made. She then takes a new job in the construction … industry and starts working for Lloyd Cartwright and Chris Vaughn. She inevitably develops a relationship with both men, and fears her life has become almost parallel to her mother’s history.
Chris Vaughn began working for his dad by accident. Now, four years later, Chris manages to make a successful and lucrative career from it. However, he half detests and half reveres the man whom he calls his boss and also his dad. Meanwhile, his boss/dad doesn’t realize their connection. Chris accidentally and quite unwillingly finds himself in the throes of competition for Julia… against his dad. But Chris must determine whether he is subconsciously trying to destroy his dad for abandoning him, or merely intending to accelerate his own ambition. Ultimately, he worries that, in the end, what he seeks and desires the most could be at odds with what he should do.

The Step Sister – Leanne Davis
I have enjoyed reading the Sister Series. The Step Sister was another great book in this series. It was a easy read and was loaded with emotion. The author leaves you feeling what the character is experiencing by what is taking place in their lives. The Step Sister is Julia’s book. The man she ends up falling has loved her for all the right reasons and didn’t let a past relationship of hers stand in the way. That relationship was a tough one for Chris to over look and is a bit uncomfortable for Chris. Julia has no idea about Chris feelings at that point other then him not agreeing w the situation. Chris and Julia’s friendship becomes strained until Chris finally is able to approach Julia and admits his true feelings to her.
Soon after Julia understands why Chris had such a tough time with her last relationship. With her families and Chris’s help and their love they both are capable of moving forward stronger then they were before.
Julia since early adulthood set strict boundaries with her biological mother. Those boundaries have prevented Vickie from being invited somewhere Julia maybe. When Vickie becomes sick with cancer the one person she wants to have by her side is Julia. Julia has to make a choice if she is willing to let the past be exactly that or to keep moving on as things have always been. With the support of others she leaves the past where it belongs. Julia is willing to forgive Vickie and work at building a friendship with her.
I really like how the author pulls real life scenarios into her novel’s. I look forward to reading more by her in the future.
Again, another intense and relevant book by a master! Julia is the youngest of the sisters, and boy, does this young woman have it in spades! Her father is married to her aunt, who raised her, and her mother is a recovering, selfish, flighty alcoholic who has ever needed to concern herself with her anxiety ridden only child! When Julia gets a job and finds herself in similar circumstances as her mother, she’s terified and ashamed. Will she be the strong and confident young woman you know she can, or will she fall into all the same mistakes and poor life choices that haunted her mother? Will her mother finally step up to be the person Julia needs?
A great family saga and it’s amazing to catch up with all the earlier characters, but I will say this – this family will drive you to tears and rage, all while bringing you into their crazy, dysfunctional lives..
The Step Sister is the last in the Sister Series. You can read these as a standalone, but there are many characters that flow over, so to understand them and some back story better, I suggest reading them all. This is about Julia Lindstrom, biological daughter of Vickie and Donny. Donny is now married to Tracy (who is Vickie’s sister), and Julia considers Tracy her mom. Vickie has never been there for Julia, often forgetting to pick her up or not showing up and this caused Julia to have anxiety and feel like she never belonged. Julia has grown up and goes on an interview for an assistant to the owner of a construction company. Unbeknownst to Julia, this position is really going to be Lloyd’s companion, not really work. Julia makes friends with Chris who is willing to teach her all that he knows to help her with her job. Chris is not like anyone Julia knows, he has a shaved head, lots of tattoos, and is huge. But she finds out his personality is nothing like she perceived him to be from his looks. He knows about Lloyd and knows he has feelings for Julia, so he blurts out the real reason she was hired. Julia confronts Lloyd and they agree to work together for real. Julia then quietly has a relationship with Lloyd, Chris goes to airport to tell her how he feels, but Lloyd is there, so he doesn’t. Will Julia choose Lloyd or Chris? Will they all be able to work together? Chris has another secret that he has not told anyone and will that blow up in their faces? Things happen and Julia realizes she is more like her mom than she thought, and can she deal with that? Who will be there for her to help her out? Also she needs to deal with her feelings about her mother. Allie, Kylie, Olivia, Nate, Derek, Tristan, Tracy, Donny and Chris are all there for Julia when she needs them most, and she finally realizes she is not a step sister, but she is really a part of this wonderful family. Great end to the series. I’ve come to love these characters, and could keep reading about this big, dysfunctional family.
Julia Lindstrom has always had a high level of anxiety and it may be due to her mom, Vickie Stratten, leaving her to be raised by her dad, Donny, and step-mom Tracy. Her mom let her down so many times with never showing up when she was supposed to and now she longer wants Vickie in her life and considers Tracy her real mom.
When Julia applies for a job at a construction company as Lloyd Cartwright’s assistant, most of his staff believe she got the job due to her looks but Julia vows to do a good job and keep things professional.
Chris Vaughn works for the construction company but he has a huge secret regarding the boss. The moment Chris meets Julia he is taken with her but he also realizes that he has competition from the boss and is torn between his feelings for her and how hard he has worked for the company.
Soon Julia realizes she is torn between two men and likens her situation to her own mother’s past and she struggles. Can Julia find the right man for her and when secrets of the past are revealed will she make the right choice?
This is another great book in the series and I am sad to see that it is over.
Julia was a great character as she definitely had a lot of issues with her mom, Vickie, and it was understandable. Vickie never raised her and let her down so many times so she cut her out of her life and never wanted anyone to refer to her as her mom as she felt Tracy raised her and was more of a mom to her than Vickie ever was. Julia did not want any similarities between herself and Vickie.
Julia was a hard worker and definitely a little naive in the beginning to why Lloyd hired her. I was glad that Chris told her the truth yet the way he did it definitely caused distance between them and strained their friendship. I was so proud of Julia for calling Lloyd out but at the same time you could see where things were headed.
I liked Chris and you could tell he was also struggling with what to do with his own dilemma as he ended up in a job that he loved so he didn’t want to rock the boat but he also held the secret close to him. Chris went to Julia so many times to let her know how he felt but could never muster up enough courage and it made me sad! Yet I also knew that things would blow up at some point so I was waiting patiently and it did not disappoint.
The blow up was well worth it but I really felt bad for Julia when she realizes what she has done and the comparisons she draws with Vickie. I did think that she needed to forgive Vickie just to let things go within herself.
The end was really awesome although I was definitely shocked at the wedding at the end!
What a great end to an amazing series. Leanne Davis has taken us on quite a journey and I am extremely glad I read every single book she has written. I cannot wait to find out what she has next in store for us. Definitely recommended.
This is book 10 in the Sister series. This is also the last book in the series. Julia has suffered from different problems in her life. She has anxiety and suffers in fear she will be just like her bio mother. She meets Chris, this tall, bald, tattooed guy at her new job. I loved this story. These 2 have great chemistry once they stopped and let it happen. I loved how it ended. Great end to a wonderful series.
Another amazing book by Leanne! I absolutely loves this series!
Step Sister by Leanne Davis was an easy read, story flowed nicely. Julia has several issues that she deals with in this book most of which were with her mom. Julia starts a new job in a field she has never worked in construction. Julia finds herself attracted to two men at work. Lots of twists , ends with a happy ending. A book I would definitely recommend.
Julia is the baby of the family and her bio mom is totally messed up and left her child with anxiety and a big inferiority complex. Julia gets a job with one of her dad’s customers as his personal assistant at his construction company. Unknown to Julia Lloyd hires pretty young assistants for one thing only and it doesn’t involve work. Chris is a site superintendent or Lloyd and starts mentoring Julia so she can do the job of an assistant. Chris is hiding a big secret and he and his boss are falling for the same woman. Lots of twists and turns in this one. We also get to catch up with all of the family. This was a great way to end the Sisters Series.
This is book ten we finally get Julia’s story the step sister she is all grown up this book like the others had many tough topics! Chris & Julia have some issues when it comes to working together when she’s hired as secretary for his dads company can he keep his head on straight?
Julia has struggled with anxiety and issues that stem from the way her mother (Vickie) treated her in childhood. When she gets her first job as the assistant to Lloyd the owner of a construction company she is overwhelmed. Chris one of the job site foreman takes her in and helps her learn the business. Julia finds herself the woman that both men are interested in.
This book has characters from The Perfect Sister. It can be read as a standalone but all the quirky relationships are explained in the previous book. The author did a great job of helping Julia grow up and gain confidence throughout this story. I loved that we got to spend time with the family and how it has changed over the years between books. Another great emotional read from Leanne Davis.
Julia had a lot of issues with her birth mom. We don’t blame her. We’ve seen Vickie. Along comes new job with a silver fox boss and mountain of a man training her. We get the usual high dose of drama. It parallels a lot more than god thing. The ending for her mom made me laugh! I was wondering if that wouldn’t happen.
You can read this book as a standalone.
Julie has suffered from her past and this makes her feel like she doesn’t fit in. Chris has grown up working for the dad who doesn’t know he exists. This book does a good job of dealing with two people who have to work through their problems to trust and love each other. Can Julie and Chris overcome their past and be happy together.
I rated this book a 3 because in my opinion it moved slow in the beginning and then started moving at high speed. I also just couldn’t connect with Julie or Chris. Their behavior at times was just bizarre to me.
The plus side was the family and friendships that all of the characters had.
Another great book. Showing us we all struggle with things but its who we have in our life that can either help us or make it worse. Julie went and helped her father out but after awhile her dad wanted her to reach out and find another job. When she does she works with a guy how usually hits on women didn’t do that with her instead he showed her the ropes of the job and then the story gets really good.
It was a good story. Julia forgave Vickie, not my favorite of the series but I enjoyed it.
The Step Sister could be a really enjoyable book to read. Although you were able to predict what was going to happen, the title doesn’t make sense until the very end. The book had a lot of 3 party writing, which I didn’t like. It would go from a character’s thoughts, to the author talking about that character in 3rd party. Great potential, though.
An enjoyable book to read. Not quite as much on the edge of your seat tension and drama as the previous books in the series, but a fulfilling end to the series.
Another amazing story. Everyone of these books brings u in from the begining.
