They should both walk away, but neither of them can.It took everything for Noah to leave her husband Levi and his dirty mistress: surgery. One year later, the pressure of raising their son and building her own career is breaking her. It doesn’t help that every time she sees Levi, his touch and presence bring those old feelings racing back, until she shuts them down. She’ll never let Levi break … She’ll never let Levi break her heart again—or their son’s.
Levi saves other people’s children every day, but he couldn’t save his marriage. Noah left him alone in an empty house and a hole in his heart, with only surgery to keep him going. In order to numb some of the pain she left him in, he decides to sell what used to be their home, but it’s not enough. When two apartments open up, Levi seizes the chance to move upstairs from Noah. He’ll show her that he can be a real father to their son, and prove he’s still the man she fell in love with.
As long as Levi is a doctor, there will always be an emergency taking him away from his family. Guilt is playing tug-o-war with his heart while Noah is strengthening the walls around hers. If Levi can’t walk away from his addiction to work, Noah will walk away forever.

Divorced Noah and Levi can’t forget each other, or the love they shared. As they try to co-parent their son, their chemistry flickers back to life. Watching them navigate their unorthodox journey to happiness was super heartwarming.
I love this 2nd chance story! Characters were well developed and witty! A fun read! Noah & Levi we’re a divorced couple but a circumstance brings them close. Really enjoyed this book!
The Stairs Between Us is the first book I have read by this author and I really liked it. I loved that Levi and Noah were a divorced couple drawn back towards each other. Joey was the star of the book! He was adorable and so smart! I loved that kid! Great read!
Love, love , love this book. Such a different type of second chance love. Written very well. The hero and heroine are a great match. Little Joey is awesome. Such a fun quirky kid! The story is great and keeps you interested the whole way through!! HEA!!

Noah and Levi’s story was just perfect to me. This was such a unique spin on the second-chance genre. Noah was tired of feeling second-best, and Levi didn’t know any other way to make his family feel like everything and continue to save kids’ lives. I loved watching them interact and figure out how to navigate their love and his career. Great secondary characters, too. This was my first book by Elizabeth Barone, and I look forward to reading more from her. Great story with a perfect HEA!
I absolutely loved this book.
Noah and Levi was one of those couple that show you that you can fall in love all over again.
It was a beautiful love story if forgiveness, second chances and hope.
There was sadness but it made you want them to have a happy ending.
Levi is a workaholic doctor whose wife, Noah, divorced him. They have an adorable young son named Joey.
Despite the issues between them Noah and Levi still love each other and want the best for Joey. The character arcs are well done, especially Levi’s. I liked seeing Noah’s journey, but the biggest changes and learning opportunities were for Levi.
The plot moves at a pretty good pace, but there were a few times I wish it had dived a bit deeper into things that were happening. Noah and Levi’s friends Theo and Pamela were nice additions to the story too.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, this book was a BIG disappointment.
In the beginning, things were going great. I loved how Noah and Levi still had remaining feelings for each other. There was still chemistry, and beneath the anger and sadness, we could see that they still loved each other. However, the one thing that got to me was their actions, their immaturity, and altogether their attitude.
Noah was an okay heroine. I loved how in the beginning she stood up for herself. She seemed to be a strong single mother. She was dedicated and everything. But at the 50%, she turned into a complete doormat. She let Levi walk all over her. She basically just forgave him for everything. There was no groveling, nothing. She just let Levi walk into her life, and think that everything is okay. That is NOT okay. Noah has strong values, but she REALLY needs to have her priorities straight.
Levi is the most selfish person I’ve ever met. He is smart, okay. But, there is no “change” in that story. Levi literally ruined the entire story for me. He just drags Noah in and just strings her along because he wants to “white-picket fence dream.” There were many times his immaturity really made me want to yell at him to get sense into his head. The whole problem in this book is HIM. It’s his actions and his workaholics that really proved by Levi and Noah fell apart.
The romance in this novel was super cringe-worthy. All I felt that the characters were doing were having a huge angst fest like a bunch of teenagers. The characters don’t even act like their age. And, the chemistry between them was horrible. I felt that the author was trying to prove that they belonged together. Everything and all the “progress” they made in the novel was extremely forced. There was no real emotion. The romance equaled to two people having an unhealthy relationship and staying together because they want the whole family dream. And, the ending, was completely cliched. The only plus in the romance is that it is less steamier than compared to other NA.
And plot line also did not go well with the book. It was extremely choppy. I felt that each chapter was a brief scene that didn’t add well to the plot. The writing made the plot extremely monotonous. It was just fight, fight, fight, and HEA. The writing also didn’t do any of the characters justice because it was complete monologue. Levi and Noah’s voice sounded the same.
All in all, I’m sad to say that it was a disappointing novel. I definitely do not recommend this novel. I think that there are much better second chance novels out there.
