DANNY
We are meant to be together. We all know that.
But what did Alec do after I left?
What could he have possibly done to make Christine want revenge?
The Square is book two in The Shape of Love series collaboratively written by New York Times Bestselling author, JA Huss and actor/screenwriter, Johnathan McClain.

This is the second book in the Shape of Love Series and after the way the first book finished I was looking forward to seeing what happened next. If you haven’t read the first book then do so, there is no point in reading this one until you have as the story picks up from after that and you will need to know what has happened to get Alec, Danny and Christine to the point they are now.
The twists and turns brought to us by Huss and McClain are simply brilliant and leave you on the edge of your seat. There is so many things going on that effect the Triangle turning into a Square ad maybe even a shape with more sides.
The relationship between Alec, Christine and Danny is so complex, they all have fears, anger, love, betrayal, and so much lust between them, they will always gravitate back to each other, ultimately choosing each other over everyone else.
I can’t wait to see what this twistedly brilliant duo bring us next
Fokken brilliant writing from Huss/McClain. I’m so in awe of how their minds work. They craft their stories with an unapologetic vision, taking a reader on one heck of a journey.
The Square is part of the Shape of Love series, a dramatic continuation of Christine, Danny, and Alec’s story. With their world in chaotic motion, the triangle bends and reshapes, and it also strengthens. The bond this trio shares is tested in ways I wasn’t expecting, but I loved it. This review is completely spoiler free, so you’ll need to find out the secrets yourself. It’s all so, so good!
Even if you have a math phobia, you’ll love The Square (Shape of Love #2) by J.A. Huss and Johnathan McClain! The Shape of Love series is an adrenaline junkie’s dream. This is NOT a standalone, and the book will not make sense without having read The Triangle, (Shape of Love #1).
The Square is an action-packed second installment in Ms. Huss and Mr. McClain’s latest series. Between missions, gun fights, recollections and reconciliations there is not a dull moment in this book. The Square not only offers action, but it provides incredible insight into the main characters, Alec, Christine, and Danny. Many of The Triangle’s unanswered questions are addressed in this novel.
If you take out the mercenary action and hot sex scenes, you’re left with a rather sweet romance between the main trio. Of course, that sweet romance is buried in ten levels of action, but it is there! I loved Danny in this installment, and the interaction between the all three is quite emotional.
How does a triangle become a square? Math geeks and romantics want to know… I shouldn’t tell you because it would absolutely ruin the exciting twists and turns in this incredibly fast-paced novel!
The Square picks up its action a short time after The Triangle ended, and if you recall from reading book 1, we were left hanging after some shocking revelations and wondering the fates of some key characters. If you haven’t read The Triangle, stop now, do not pass go, leave the $200 right there and get to reading!
The Square is just as masterful in its twists and turns as book 1 was. Just when Alec, Christine and Danny have found their way back to each other after that four year separation, the floor drops out from under them and they find themselves separated once again, only this time its Danny and Christina left together and Alec the one who is left out. There are still a ton of questions left unanswered for Danny about what happened during the four years he was gone, and slowly Julie and Johnathan unravel those events for the reader to discover at the same time Danny does.
We find out what happened that fractured the relationship between Alec and Christine and led her to betray him, but we don’t get all of that story yet, because Christine is still suffering some memory lapses. I hope that all gets cleared up in the next book, otherwise I think I’m going to lose my mind with the not knowing!
The way that Alec betrayed Christine hurt my heart in a most grievous way. Because of it, Alec, Christine and Danny’s triangle is morphing in shape to a square that none of them know how to deal with. Hell, by the time this story is done, it may end up being an octagon or some other shape, you never know where Julie and Johnathan’s minds are going to take a story!
I love how this book is once again told in three points of view, and I can’t even begin to guess which author voiced which character. All I know is all three are very intricate beings and this power duo are writing one amazing, complex story that kept me glued to the pages.
Once again, the action at the end of the book leaves us hanging by our fingernails and my mind is going crazy trying to guess what’s going to happen next. I hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out!
“We control the shape of our love. We decide what it looks like. We can put all this back together if we really want to.” The question is…do they really want to. A lot of stuff went down in the first book, The Triangle and there are so many questions that need to be answered from each and every single one of them. There are past hurts and betrayals that there just may not be any coming back from. The title of the story suggests that another line (or shape) may be drawn but is it possible to bring more into their triangle without destroying the essence of who they all are? Told from each person’s point of view, you see glimpses of the people they used to be, glimpses of the people they are now and even some glimpses into the people they are meant to be. While not all may be lost, there is now way more to lose than we can imagine. This series and storyline keeps getting stronger and stronger and leaves you wanting and begging for another taste.
*I received a free ARC of The Square from the authors. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
The Square is the same kind of complete mind fuck as The Triangle was. There was so much going on – and I still have no idea whom to trust! Can anyone be trusted? And what is the long play here?
I love the three main characters, Alec, Christine and Danny. They are awesome. And so are the Watson’s who played an important role here. (And I’m still not sure if I trust them!)
The romance is solid. But so is the action, the intrigue, the secrets and the mystery. I don’t want to wait for the next book!!
Where the Triangle (book 1 in the Shape of Love series) was all about getting to know Alec, Christine and Danny and the whys and hows of their unique relationship, The Square is how those bonds need to be made whole once more after they are stretched to their limit. I had the same questions these 3 did as their time apart was muddied and confusing and made them question everything they had together.
Huss and McClain once again write flawlessly together, keeping the reader fooled as to who wrote what character, reveling in the extreme talent it takes to craft such a wonderful story. This time around, there is much less in terms of action, where this trio’s physical talents aren’t put to the test like we are used to. Instead, this book is filled with all kinds of hurt and raw emotions as their beloved triangle has been forced into a square that they simply can’t fathom.
At the crux of the matter is a hint of betrayal that is all tangled up in what Alec, Danny and Christine hold so dearly and that is each other’s hearts. Told in all 3 POVs once more, there are a few chapters later in the book that not only stripped their souls bare but gutted mine right along with them. Their ‘reunion’ after gaps of time that are still hazy and questionable was truly beautiful, both emotionally and physically. Huss and McClain know how to write M/M/F like nobody’s business and this continuation is truly another shining example of that expertise.
Of course, there are plenty of surprises and still an abundance of intrigue and sharp humor as our threesome stumble and fall a bit throughout this book and it ends on yet another question. With any luck, the next book won’t be far behind this one and I won’t be without these incredible characters for too long.
Another must read from the formidable writing duo that is J.A. Huss and Johnathan McClain, The Square deserves nothing less that 5 huge stars!
This trio!!!! It leaves me breathless each time they are together. Although this book starts with them split and in different parts of the world, all that buildup where they work towards their reunion is quite thrilling, confusing, frustrating, steamy and then some. And when they finally get together, that’s when s*.* hits the fan. They are trouble but in the good sense. I loved them in this book as much as in the previous though all of them came with new sides: Christine jealous and insecure, Danny dominant and in charge for once and Alec, weary and maybe vulnerable. But despite the betrayal they still choose and stand for each other and that’s something beautiful above all the danger that is lurking.
I must say that I am quite infatuated by now with the Watson crew as well, their sarcasm and their bloody accent, so I really hope to get a story of their own once that the triangle reached their HEA, whatever that will be. Till then, surely we will have more of them in the next book and I can’t wait to get my hands on it!!
These “Antiheroes “ play fast and loose with our hearts
This book is written so well, so easy to read, I was drawn into the story and “Bam” a wrench is flying into my head. After chapter five, I swear I had to put it down or break my ereader. Julie and Johnathan can’t just have some angst and kicka$$ action and smoking hot sex, they have to break your heart. Too entrenched in this story I pulled up my big girl panties and picked up my ereader, cause you never know where this tale will lead us. I am absolutely on pins and needles for the next book.
The suspense, action and love !!!!
As I tall before I am team Dany.
This book gave me one of the answers that I needed. But I have so much more questions now. And I love it.
This triangle becomes a square of love that I didn’t see coming.
This is the one and only triangle book that I like.
I want to see more action in the next one.
I can’t wait to see what this characters are going to do now !!!
Hold on to your Kindles for book 2 of The Shape of Love series.
Alec, Danny and Christine take us on twists and turns you will not see coming. Don’t get me started on the steamy sexy chemistry between the 3. Amazing read full of non stop excitement. Great 5 star read.
Hold on to your fokken seat because the Trio is back!!! This book, just…WOW! Danny…Christine…Alec; We get so many more twists, more action, more laughs and of course more Love! Huss & McClain really know how to co-write a book!! I fell even more in love with these three. We find out what happened between Alec and Christine in those 4 years Danny left and finally get some answers to questions from book one. Told in multiple POV; MF; MFM, You must read The Triangle(Book 1) before reading this book.
The Square is the second installment in the Shape of Love trilogy and follows the first book, The Triangle. The Triangle really hooked me with the fast paced action and hot steamy scenes. The Square is more emotional. It delves into the whys. It still has plenty of steam. And suspense as well!
I am absolutely loving this series!! Julie and Johnathan are a fantastic writing duo and they excel at this kind of work. I cannot tell who wrote what and where one author stopped and the other one picked up. And from a long time Julie fan, I think that says a lot. These characters are intense and you can feel their emotions for each other. This is why I dislike writing reviews sometimes…I cannot adequately express in words how I feel about a book like this. I can’t wait for the conclusion.
10 Reasons I Hated this Book……its not what you may think!!
1) This writing team
Huss/McClain. They’ve pretty much ruined all other authors for me!
2) This book.
Life got in the way……I tried to sneak in every second I could, but work happens.
I JUST WANTED TO READ!
3) ELIZA. Yeah, I really DO hate her.
4) That shower scene. Too short.
5) Danny’s dominant moments. Not enough of THAT!
6) Alec and his sense of humor. Anyone that is that big of a pain in the butt should at least be funny. The guy cracks me up.
7) Christine’s attempt to be civil to Eliza. Noooo! Julie. Johnathan. Don’t do it. I need a girl fight!!
8) Did I mention that the shower scene was too short??
9) Cliffhanger! What the what? Did the dynamic duo really leave it THERE???
10) Two words: THE END. I hate those two words. How long till book 3 is out?!?
This writing duo continues to impress with installment #2 in the Shape of Love series. They make you think, they take unexpected twists and turns, and their writing is fresh, always. Most of their books, for me, fall into the category of “romantic literature.” The writing is amazing.
I absolutely LOVED The Triangle.. and I was really looking forward to The Square… But I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t have to go back and re-read the Triangle before I read the Square.. so if you’re someone who forgets easily.. or reads a whole lot.. or doesn’t like cliffhangers- you might as well wait.
Alright, so this book brought me right back to my feelings about the Triangle. It was absolutely everything I love about romance suspense, everything I loved about JA Huss’ early writing and I am so glad to see she’s back at it. I love the connection between these characters and how the story keeps building and building.
And although the build is fantastic, I did feel like this book was a little bit slower that I enjoy and that quite a few of the loose ends from thr Triangle and still that… loose.. and I can’t wait to read the final installment and hope all the end get tied together. Here’s to praying the wait is too long!
You must read The Triangle before you read this book!
This is a classic JA Huss twisted story, made even better with Johnathan’s help. The story gets better and better. I can’t wait for the next book!!
Whoa. I never know where Huss and McClain are gonna take me and although I’d been eager to get the continuation of Alec, Christine, and Danny’s story, I’d have never guessed the continuation would have taken me where it did. Don’t get me wrong. It’s an incredible story. Huss and McClain never disappoint in character development or plot or plot twists. And oh what a tangled, twisted plot they’ve woven. I did get some answers – even though I didn’t necessarily like them. But, per usual, I have even more questions after the second installment. I have no idea who I should be siding with, who I can trust, and which direction we’ll go from here. But also per usual, I’m left dangling on a precipice and I can’t wait for the next installment.
3.5 stars
I absolutely loved The Triangle so I was expecting to love The Square. Unfortunately I struggled to get into this book. The story seemed to flit about a lot in the first half and I was left kicking myself for not re reading The Triangle before starting this book. Once I hit halfway things started clicking into place for me and I definitely enjoyed the second half of the book a lot more.
This is exactly what I’ve come to expect from both these authors. It’s packed with twists and turns, secrets, betrayals and some serious chemistry between the characters. The ending will leave you hanging and desperate for the next book to land on your kindle.
This writing duo knows how to grab your attention and keep you entertained from start to finish. Danny, Christine, and Alec are at it again. After a four year hiatus, the trio is back together again and so is their past. After Danny and Christine find Alec and rescue him the past comes back to bite them….again. After a working out some of their problems and a VERY steamy reunion they have to find Lars and get answers. But do they….The hits keep on coming and are left wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book and hopefully get some answers.
