DANNY
We are meant to be together. We all know that.
But what did Alec do after I left?
What could he have possibly done to make Christine want revenge?
The Square is book two in The Shape of Love series collaboratively written by New York Times Bestselling author, JA Huss and actor/screenwriter, Johnathan McClain.
more
JA Huss and Johnathan McClain are excellent writers. Their collaborations are among the best I’ve read—ever. In The Square, like the other books I’ve read by this duo, they take me to places that I don’t like necessarily, but they are adventures.
The Square, the second book in their Shape of Love trilogy. Caution: THIS IS NOT A STANDALONE NOVEL. The Square will not be a satisfying read unless The Triangle is read first.
There are so many “I can’t believe where they are taking me” moments I’m confused about how I feel about the characters right now. This is not a negative criticism. The characters are on my mind trying to work out who, what, and why. I wonder if I could handle the betrayals more than anything.
Danny, Christine, and Alec (I know this isn’t their order, but it is the order of my favorites) were friends and a team for some time then they split. We learned about the split and reuniting in The Triangle. The Square reveals more of the betrayals. The reveals stab my heart, and the suspense makes me anxious. It is wonderful.
In The Square, Danny, Christine, and Alec are revealing what happened in the past that tore the trio apart while dealing with the present danger and working desperately to rekindle what was in their relationship. Christine still has blank spots in her memory. I’m sure there is something big missing.
I love the way these two gifted authors collaborate and make my head ache with all the ups and downs. Their voices meld seamlessly as they tell a complex story that is full of emotions. Most of all, I love how they make their characters real in my head and heart.
I’m conflicted about Alec right now. I don’t like him; however, the trio belongs together. Even though I can’t seem to resolve this contradiction in my head. Alec broke up Danny and Christine even though he knew how important she was to Danny. He more than betrays Christine. He allows someone else to help Christine instead of getting Danny. Regardless, they still love each other, and I love them together. Crazy right because I feel the correct response is to erase Alec off the page.
Julie has written characters that I didn’t like much in the past, but she finds a way to make me change my mind. Ford is one of my favorite characters that I wanted to slap when introduced. I can’t figure out how they will convince me to forgive Alec as I relate, intimately with Christine’s pain. I don’t know how I would have survived if the person I needed most checked out.
Anyway, The Square is an exciting continuation of the Shape of Love series. It will tie you up and wring you out, but it is so worth every second of it. The book is fast moving as the past unfolds and the present becomes sticky. I’m worried that I know how The Circle is going to develop from The Square. I don’t think I can take Alec hurting the trio anymore. It is hurting my head thinking about what comes next. What a ride!
I’m staring at my screen right now, hardly knowing how to begin to do The Square justice.
I’m fascinated with the events of this story, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what could possibly drive Christine to betray her love for Alec…and then we find out. There aren’t enough tears to wash away the anguish of their loss, but instead of seeking solace in each other, they make grave errors and now we find ourselves here.
Family betrayal and old enemies seeking vengeance.
Will they be united or torn apart?
Can Christine, Alec and Danny find a way to forgiveness and repair the shape of their love?
Will they be too late to save the innocents?
You cannot read and understand The Square until you’ve read The Triangle, but I highly recommend you do so before we reach The Circle. I love these characters and all their flaws, this series, thus far is jam packed with all the feels. I’m left feeling a bit heartbroken right now, but I have faith that love will prevail.
Every time a book by J.A. Huss and Johnathan McClain hits my kindle, I squeal with joy! This writing duo are phenomenal together! In The Square we continue Alec, Christine and Danny’s story. It was a very unexpected journey (but really, could we expect anything else) that was full of twists, turns and angst.
We begin to learn a little more of what happened in the past as this trio is now dealing with all that occurred in the previous book. Though we find out more, there are still so many questions. My heart hurt so much while reading this one. It was emotional and complex and left me wondering where it would all lead and end.
I absolutely devoured this book! J.A. Huss and Johnathan McClain captivated me with this unpredictable story. The characters and story intrigued me from the first book and I cannot wait for more! Note, this is not a standalone. The Triangle must be read before reading this book, but it is so worth it! I love anything this duo writes!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
This is one of the craziest rides I’ve been on when reading a book. You don’t know who to trust, whose secrets will be revealed next, whose loyalty is real and how it will all turn out. Every time one issues is resolved give more pop up in its place. I really love these characters and I can not wait to see what happens next. I still have so many questions and I will probably drive myself crazy waiting for the next book but I absolutely recommend that you get started now so that you can be ready for the next book.
The story picks up where The Triangle ended and from the beginning of the book to the end of the book, it has been one crazy adventure after another. Christine and Danny have been out at sea for quite some time but they know that they need to find Alec. During this time, Christine and Danny get some alone time together which is really what they need after being away from each other for 4 years.
They travel to England to try and find Alec. Danny has recruited the Watson family (4 brothers and a sister) to help with the search. Christine, Danny and Alec have a history with the Watson family but there’s more to it than Danny realizes but they met again. Christine’s anger towards Alec is revealed and I guess you can’t blame her for being mad at him even though she still loves him. Once they are able to find Alec and help him escape his unknown captor, Alec meets Andra for the first time and is not sure how he feels about it.
With the help of the Watson family, they go back to the scene of the crime thinking that they will confront Alec’s captor but are in for a surprise. Then when Andra and Theo (one of the Watson brother) goes missing, they all must put aside their difference to try and find them.
When Christine, Alec, and Danny unite, they finally get to be together like they were meant to be. Their short time together was very hot and boy did they steam up the showers! This story has so many twists and turns that you are always surprised when things happen but you also get to see the deep love and attachment that these 3 have for each other. We will have to see what happens in the next book and hopefully get our questions answered!
Huss never takes us where we think we are going to go. She is well known for her twists and this one I never saw coming. There is quite a bit of angst here as the triangle of Christine, Danny and Alec try to deal with the fallout of betrayals both on Christine and Alec’s part. The past is slowly revealed and we are witnesses to the pain and heartache that led to where this trio currently finds themselves. There were some elements here that I am not a fan of and reduced my enjoyment of this story. I did love the reunion of these characters and the beginning process of healing from past decisions. Not sure where this story is going to take us next as the ending was quite shocking and Huss/McClain leave us with one whopper of a cliffhanger.
Suspenseful, twisted and hot. Those are pretty much the only words I can come up with right now. This series is one crazy ride and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
There is more vulnerability and less devil may care and invincibility in the Square as Alec, Christine and Danny try to repair the triangle following on from all the action in the first book. But is it still a triangle? The Watsons certainly add some great characters to into the mix. Knowing what I know now from this book, I want to go back and re-read The Triangle to see if I can see any hint of the unexpected secrets we discover in The Square. There are funny moments, and sad times and as always some very hot scenes too, and some action.
As always a well written and entertaining book, that I couldn’t put down. Bring on the next book!
Once again I am blown away by these authors! This story broke my heart in only the best ways! It’s twisty and steamy and all my favorite things that only these authors can seem to do! Never have I been so involved in a book world as I am when it belongs to Huss and McClain! My advice read all the books from these two! Great characters and even better writing!
Okay, I’m not sure how to begin this review. If you’ve read a Huss and McClain book, then you know you are in for a ride. It’s always a bit twisty. It doesn’t always fit the typical romance genre. And it is usually incredibly $exy.
The Square is the second book in the Shape of Love series. It follows the first book, The Triangle. And it’s a wild ride. We return to our main characters, Alex, Christine, and Danny (in that order, Alec tells us). Yes, this is an MMF book, but it really is something more.
It is possible to find yourself struggling with this series. For one, Alex is Afrikaans, and there are times when I had to Google Translate his words. Secondly, there is a way in which the characters think and talk that is surrounded by space. It’s difficult to explain, but you find yourself confused at times. There is something intentional with leaving the reader out of the true knowing of the situation. It is as if the characters conspire to keep us ignorant of all the “goings-on.” This can be daunting at times because you want to fully understand, and you simply cannot.
There are a lot of characters in this book beyond A, C, and D. And Eliza is one such character. My heart hurt for Christine in this book. There were times when I wanted to scream at Alec “keep it in your pants, buddy.” I was exasperated with them throughout the story because I wanted the throuple to protect itself more, and it feels as though they sacrifice each other too much. I understand the saying of “if it’s meant to be and you set it free, it will come back to you,” but I was exasperated with them as they were oftentimes careless.
With that, though, they find strength in their triangle. That is the beauty of this story. No matter the sacrifice, the hurt, the double-crossing, these three always come back to each other. Wbenever anyone conspires against these three, they protect the triangle.
This book ends on a cliffhanger, and I hope the triangle will continue to find its strength in its parts. I am certain, while seemingly unconventional, this story will finds its “happily-ever-after.” Or maybe it won’t. I’m looking forward to the third book…
Overall:
O-M-G, what an intense and fabulous ride!!
I FLOFFING LOVED IT!!
The story is fantastically well-written, enthralling, intense, and well-paced. A well-drawn and original plot that kept me flipping the pages until the very end.
The Square is filled with intrigue, suspense, action, mystery, danger, and lets not forget Alec, Christine and Danny’s incredibly hot and passionate chemistry. Although, there is some dramatic tension between them. (Sorry, no spoilers. You need to read Book 1 to find out more about this amazing trio.) All the character added a great element to the story.
I was completely entertained with this compelling story and the fabulous, well-developed characters. The action, the betrayal, the hot kinky sex, the hilarious and flirtatious banter and clever comebacks from the characters that got me hooked throughout the story and pulled me in as if I was part of their world. I love their virtues and their flaws, which is making me fall more in love with this great characters.
I you haven’t start this phenomenal series, I recommend that you do ASAP. You have no idea what you’re missing on.
I receive an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. However, I already purchased my own e-copy, and I’ll be getting the Audible version as well. YUP, that’s how much I love this series!!
The Dynamic Duo strikes again. Absolutely another 5 star read that had me glued too my kindle. The Square has twist and turns that I didn’t see coming. What we learn about Christine will definitely tug on your heartstrings. I absolutely love Alec, Christine and Danny together and that shower scene was HOT. I can’t wait too read what happens next especially how it ended.
When you finish reading this book you will be like what in the world did I just read. It might take your mind a bit to catch up with the action-packed ending.
I don’t do spoilers so this is going to be a short review. We left Triangle on a cliff hanger and we start Square with an answer to the question we were left with Triangle.
There are still questions and even more than before. We have new characters that are introduced to us and honestly, I can’t wait to read more of them.
Some secrets are revealed and there are some new ones in the making.
If you haven’t read Triangle you need to do so before reading Square.
Well done Julie and Johnathon!!
We start with a triangle of Alec, Christine and Danny. They are three and the three of them make a whole. They can’t live without one another. They’ve done it and it didn’t completely work for reasons we didn’t really find out in book one, The Triangle (which you MUST read before stepping foot into The Square).
“We control the shape of our love. We decide what it looks like. We can put all this back together again if we really want to.”
The Square gives us answers to what happened when Danny left the Triangle and what happened between Alec and Christine during those 4 years before they meet up again. It was something I didn’t see coming. And honestly, the way the story was told, I was a little confused at first. I thought I was getting a book that left off right where book one did. But that wasn’t the case. I figured it out after a bit, but wish it was a little more clear. It still didn’t deter my liking the story, just threw me off. It added the history aspect I needed.
And then….Then we start the action. I have to say, I missed all the action from book one. It was fun and exciting and dangerous. This was more of a book that got us some of the past answers we needed in order to go forward. The meat, if you will. Why was Christine out for revenge? What about the brother(s) coming after them? The four lost years….what happened? Answers we got and more questions evolved.
Huss and McClain delivered a book with some sexy scenes and a bit of pain to see in the past and what they are going to have to endure in the future. How are Eliza and Andra supposed to fit in? What about her brothers? And just when you thought the triangle may make it? Then a square forms and I don’t know what I think of it. Of course we are going to have some twists and turns when it comes to this series, but dang it, they left me on a major cliffy and now I gotta know what’s going to happen. Our fierce triangle that has morphed shapes into a square is on a mission and it will be full of danger and chaos. I can’t wait!
“Happily ever afters are for romantics and simpletons. And we are neither of things. Are we?”
Amazing book!!
The Square is emotionally charged and breathtaking as it picks up where The Triangle left off. Alec, Christine and Danny are each other’s greatest strengths but also their biggest weaknesses. When one is weak or down, the other two have the strength to lift their third up and support them no matter what. Past recriminations are expressed, confessions of truth are made and forgiveness is granted. A complex love if ever there was one.
Now an enemy bent on revenge will have old rivals becoming allies. They will now be bound with the threesome. Together they will recover and protect what is theirs. Hang on to your seat vecause The Shape of Love Book 3 promises to be an incredible ride!
I absolutely loved this book.
It was filled with betrayal, heartache, vulnerability, hope, forgiveness and love. But when you add Huss and McClain in the mix nothing ever comes easy for the characters.
I really enjoyed this book. It was an emotional read and full of chaos and complications. We learn more about Alec, Christine, and Danny. What separated them years ago and what happened while they were apart.
I loved Danny’s dominate side. How he stepped up and took charge. And I loved Alec’s vulnerability. It was sexy on both parts.
This book will keep your attention from beginning to the very end. And then wanting more. I can’t wait for book 3!
Oh the suspense is killing me!!! Huss & McClain are killing it with this series. The words are like a breath of fresh air. They are pretty Awesome so you need to read their books.
The Triangle (book one) ended in a BANG!
The dynamic duo is trying to find their misisng piece so they can be the triple threat they once were. Will Danny and Christine find Alec? Will secerts destroy their Triangle? Grab a copy and find out what happens when the Triangle becomes a Square.
I need the next book!
This story is getting better with each book! The suspense continues packed with a lot of action in the lives of Alec, Christine and Danny!
I loved the way Danny and Christine are together, they read each other like no other, but when Alec joins them, you can see the love between the three of them. They’re just meant to be, but there’s still a lot going on that will bring up past situations that will lead to a lot if truths.
Finally got some answers to my questions but there’s so many secrets to be revealed!
This series keep you guessing all the way through and I cant wait to read the next book.
Well, if you thought book one was a wild ride just wait till you pick up this book! The trio…. Danny, Christine and Alec are back with another book filled with twists and turns that definitely had my jaw hitting the floor while finally getting answers that just created more questions! This read was all kinds of crazy with some suspense, drama and angst thrown in. I was so enamored with this story again that I didn’t want it to end and now I’m impatiently waiting for the next book……to finally get ALL the answers.
