The Spymasters lady is an action packed adventure with a dashing hero and a daring heroine. Will spy’s on opposite sides work together to save the day? Find out.
I read this one quite a while ago because it was in paperback and I have been on Kindles for years since. I read the whole series and they are all good. Joanna is a very talented writer and I would read anything she writes. I recommend it and all the series if you like suspense with steamy love stories thrown in as well.
Very appealing characters and lots of action. Would recommend to anyone enjoying historical fiction and the Napoleonic era.
Loved it!
The Spymaster’s Lady is a complex action-packed story that truly showcases this author’s ability to create different voices so each individual character jumps off the page.
Annique Villiers, also known as The Fox Cub, is a French secret agent whose skill at “the game” is renowned. Captured by her enemies, she finds herself imprisoned with a couple of Englishmen and decides to form an alliance with them in order to make her escape. What she doesn’t realize, is that one of these men is British Spymaster Robert Grey, whose sole mission is to find Annique and bring her back to England with him. So the moment they’re all free, Grey takes her prisoner. Caught between the attraction she feels for Grey as they travel to England together, her loyalty toward France and her need to protect the secret she carries with her, Annique faces difficult choices along the way, only to discover that nothing is as it seems and that her greatest ally might actually be the man who betrayed her trust.
Fantastically written, this book has it all: a plot filled with twists and turns, danger lurching around every corner, a race to the finish-line, well-developed characters and lots of romance. A definite page-turner you’ll want to start in the morning so you don’t stay up all night!
Very interesting and filled with plot twists! An oldie but a goodie.
Brilliant! Absolutely captivated by these characters – witty, fun and suspenseful.
Spies, the way they should be written with action, wit and mad skills!
I’m a total sucker for romantic suspense in a historical setting, especially if it includes spies. If that’s your catnip too, you can’t go wrong with a book from Joanna Bourne. She’s a master writer whose words flow like poetry, painting a picture or creating a feeling without pulling you out of the story.
The entire Spymaster series is amazing, set in France and England in the decades after the French revolution of 1789–essentially the same period as the popular Regency romances–but with a different historical slant. She brings together kickass spies for both nations as enemies, reluctant conspirators, and wary lovers. And the sparks fly!
If you haven’t discovered Joanna Bourne’s brilliant Spymasters series yet you’re in for a treat! The series features clever, sneaky, sexy Napoleonic Spies and this one, The Spymaster’s Lady, is my favorite of the lot. It has a brilliant plot twist you won’t see coming, a fabulous enemies-to-lovers love story, and secondary characters crying out for their own books. You’re going to love Annique and Grey!
Joanna Bourne writes unique historical romances featuring brave, intelligent heroines and swoon worthy heroes. Her plots are complex, her dialogue clever, and her writing leaps off the page as the reader is transported through time.
The Spymaster’s Lady is the first book in Bourne’s Spymasters series and is a must-read for anyone who loves historical romance. Readers are introduced to Annique Villiers, a French spy who finds herself in a rather precarious position with a notorious British spymaster. Annique is a fearless and brilliant heroine who regularly rescues the hero and whose espionage skills are often unparalleled. I adored her and Bourne writes her character flawlessly.
The hero, Robert Grey, is equally compelling and proves himself to be Annique’s match in every way. A formidable opponent, their romance is not without quite a bit of vying for power and position which makes their eventual capitulation all the more sublime. The supporting cast of characters are exquisitely crafted and leave the reader eager for their stories. If you love a slow burn romance that tugs at your heart with a rich and intricate plot, this one is simply perfection.
I highly recommend this great book. You will not be disappointed! The characters are fascinating and it has plenty of twists and turns. I will read it again, I liked it that much!
Amazing part of a wonderful series. Fast paced and very engrosing. You will want to read the whole series. One of my absolute favourite authors
One of the best books I have read in quite a while. Since I read at least 10 books a week that say’s something about this book and it’s author! I’ll get the next ones in the set…………
