At first I was put off by so much background information about the Brethren and almost stopped reading it. Finally, the story breaks through and a tragic love story of misunderstandings and mistakes unfolds with characters I felt sorrow and triumph for.
I bypassed this book for quite a while because the characters were a little older- in fact the heroine is the mother of grown children and a grandmother. However, when I did begin the book, I realized that her daughters were heroines in two other stories that were among my favorites. This was a wonderful story with a whole bunch of characters I love from previous books. The ending is just wonderful and it has become one of my favorite and most memorable books.
The Brethren series is wonderful. The characters in this book are well formed and re-act quite naturally. Story of how we all want to be loved but put up the barriers that slow the process down.
Very good read. Different take on romantic story.
Well written.
Interesting twists
Although I have read several of Ms Caldwell’s books, this one had a new twist – a love story that took 20 years for the characters to unravel and set right. Such a wonderful twist on redemption and second chances! It was quite refreshing to have characters in their mid-fourties find love and happiness. If you haven’t read a Christi Caldwell romance, get this one and lose yourself in the characters and stories she creates – you’ll not be disappointed
Slows down some toward end then picks up.
I always enjoy this author!!
