As anyone who has read the Walsh series from the beginning, I was desperate for Erin’s story. I was not disappointed in any way, shape or form. Kate worked very hard to keep Erin’s love interest a secret from readers and it did add to my enjoyment and build up the anticipation.
I cried happy, sad, angry, frustrated tears from the first page. I experienced the roller coaster of emotions and I never wanted to get off.
Kate’s writing style is smart and addictive and I feel like my IQ goes up every time I read her words. This is her best book to date. She has a fan for life right here.
Kate but brings us the 6th book in her Walsh series and like every book before it, it’s pure magic. Her writing is just…incomparable. The way that she is able to weave a story blows my mind each and every time, her ability to leave little breadcrumbs in other books and then to bring them all together in another one is outstanding. Her attention to detail and timelines and research – it’s something to behold.
This book really isn’t a stand-alone. I’m sure you can old read it and enjoy it on its own but it will be much, much more satisfying if you read the others before it. These Walshes, they’re a complicated bunch.
I want to keep this review as spoiler-free possible but know that Kate delivers with this one. Erin’s story is told (although I feel like we have SO MUCH to learn about her still) and it’s beautiful and heart breaking and shocking at points. There are definitely some cannonballs that I didn’t see coming and some of those set up a future book or books. If you’ve enjoyed previous Walsh stories then you’ll love this one and if you haven’t started this series, then what are you waiting for?! These books have it all – heat, sweetness, hilarity, family and friends, and they’re so SMART. So, so smart and I love every word of it. 🙂
**5 Stars**
Let me just start out by saying this review will be short, this only because I can’t put all of my thoughts into words besides that this book was perfection. Next? Make sure you are sitting down for the prologue, it will rock your world and leave you dying to read the next page. I’ve had an ongoing battle with every book in this series as to which Walsh my my favorite. After the Cornerstone came out, Shannon has been my favorite Walsh with a close tie to Patrick. After reading The Spire, I can say Erin is my absolute favorite.
Erin was always so mysterious (besides the bits and pieces we saw of her in the other stories) until now. I loved every letter, every word, every sentence, every paragraph, and every page of her story. It was perfect. You feel for her. You hurt for her. You heal for her and most importantly? You love with her. Kate did an absolutely amazing job with her story. Erin was ready to talk and boy did she. You fall in love with you, you can’t help it.
This book also gave you a side to Riley you’ve never seen before. Let me say this, I want his story. Waiting until May 2017? Well it just may be the death of me and I’ll have read the entire series over again, more times than I’ll want to admit.
I can’t wait for people to read this. You need to read this. If you love the Walshes at all, you’ll love this. It is absolute perfection.
100 percent delicious!
The Spire – The Walsh Series – Book 6 – by Kate Canterbary
This book was freaking awesome. Erin Walsh and Nick Acevedo should be Boston’s power couple. Ok, honestly, Nick should be Boston’s power Doctor. Erin should just come home to her family and Nick is going to be the one to bring her home.
Especially after they got married the night before Matt and Lauren’s wedding on a lobster boat, with a captain who can perform marriages (even without a licence).
Nick is good, a good doctor and a really good man. He is intrigued by Erin, who is also good, but also very caught up with the past and is not being easy on herself nor on Shannon. As for Angus, the cause of all of Erin’s problems (and she does/did have a lot of them) thank goodness he is in hell!
This story is a true love story. Two people who started out having a bit of an escape, but taking that escape and continuing that escape via emails, text messages and weekend meet ups where and when ever possible. For a year and a half! a year and a half!!
You can’t not read this book. I think this book is pivotal to the entire Walsh series. It clears up a lot. Yes, we still have Riley’s story but still.
Since so much of Erin and Nick’s story takes place while they are both in different countries, the chapters written in email format and texts move the story along while adding in the odd video chat keeps the narrative moving.
As I said, I had to think before writing this review. There were parts of the story that were heartbreaking, when we find out the things Angus put Erin through, her way of dealing with things and what caused the rift between Shannon and Erin. I cried for those 2 while reading this story. I cried for Erin while reading this story and even though there were tears there was laughter and lightness and babies! Babies were the ticket to a lovely ending. This was a hard one but Kate Canterbary did a most amazing job of taking us into the lives on Erin and Nick and letting us see love grow and hurt heal and rifts smoothed.
SWOON, SWOON, SWOON! I loved these characters and their unconventional romance. This was a major swoonfest filled with banter and hot sex. That’s a Y-E-S from me.
Just when I think there is no way to top the last book in the series, Kate does and does it beyond compare! This book will take your heart, put in the blender and set it on frappe! By the end Ms. Canterbary will lovingly put your heart together and make it stronger! If you are on the fence about starting this series, I will volunteer to push you over! Take the chance with this book and series, you won’t be sorry!!
4.5 stars!
Nick & Erin’s story was extremely emotional, heartbreaking, romantic……definitely not what I was expecting from their story, but I loved it nonetheless. I was a little surprised with the instant love between them, but seeing as how their bond deepened over the years, with little time together, they were absolutely perfect for one another. Nick accepted Erin, flaws and all, and even when times got tough, he never stopped telling her how much he cared. I also really love that there was finally some resolution between Erin & Shannon, and that we finally got to know what caused their years long fight. The scene in the hospital had me in tears. So much emotions and love between the sisters, and that moment between them was perfect.
And what a bomb that Riley dropped – had no clue that he had those feelings!! Will be interesting what happens next with him!
The entire Walsh series by Kate is wonderful. These are ‘can’t put them down’ ‘gotta read them all ‘books. The characters are wonderful. I want to be part of the Walsh family!!!
Feeling like a cheater, I grabbed onto this book with both hands. Cheater because I have books one and two of this series but heaven yet to read them. I checked and people said it’s a stand alone but not. So I will say yes it’s true, you can read this book and fall in love with the Walshes without knowing anything else about them. However, you will wind up buying them all on Amazon to read through. I say that and it sounds like it’s a bad thing but it isn’t. The Walshes are the kind of functional dysfunction family I want to be a part of.
Per the authors request, we aren’t supposed to divulge spoilers. Not having read the rest of the series I’m not sure what would be so spoiler, other than saying everyone dies…No they don’t but I wanted to mess with you.
Erin Walsh was the ever present reminder of bad things. Bad things that happened to her, the family, and things she did that weren’t so awesome. Running away was her only way of coping.
But running gets tiring, coping without dealing isn’t helpful, and life seems to speed on by. Enter hot Doc. Enough said right there. This man, holy hellfires, he’s a keeper. Once I find a way to explain I need a divorce to my hubby to marry a fictional character, Doctor Nick will be mine.
The chemistry.
The relationship.
The emotional connection.
It makes you long for their kind of special…But the cons are big and they are looming like black clouds.
It’s a fun, feisty story. With a cast of characters that I’d love to call family friends, I am a newly converted Walsh. Maybe Riley will give me the time of day…
reviewed for the Sweet Spot Sisterhood
A very original take on a long distance love affair. Beautifully written capturing the emotions of both Erin and Nick throughout and the hot, hot times in each others company! Great read!
This was the most unexpected and now favorite book in the Walsh Family saga. Kate Canterbury had me taken unawares and delighted me in the best possible way.
So this is about Erin and ? Yes, I’m not going to be that person. I’m sure you can find reviews who tells you who it is. But don’t. If you’ve read the series, you probably have a clue. But why spoil it.
Although our hero is important as a loyal and loving partner, it’s Erin who steals the show in this engaging read. See, she is always on the fringes in the other stories. She is colored most often in an unflattering light from those character’s POV. So why care about a character who wants distance from her dysfunctional family? Because it’s Erin’s social awkwardness and intelligence that is so attractive to the reader. She has decisions to make that will impact her future greatly. Regardless of location or vocation, in her shoes, Kate Canterbary gives the reader insight on how hard it is to balance all work/life expectations. I thought Sam was tough to read, however Erin brought her own real baggage and one I could relate to all too closely.
Sometimes series are like wine, each one improves with age and experience of being. But this series is so unique and engaging. Kate Canterbury keeps the ideas fresh and the reader engaged. When you get to this book – because you will read in order- you’ll find all the pieces come together brilliantly. 5 out of 5 stars.
The Spire (The Walsh Series #6)
Kate Canterbary
Our loyal friend Nick joins the family, some things we wondered about back in The Space Between (book #2) are brought to light. I absolutely love how Kate has interwoven these stories without losing any of the details. Erin isn’t quit what I was expecting, she was so much more. The dynamics of carrying on a relationship for years while living on separate continents are so well explained, and the hope of home is never lost even when they feel they don’t deserve it. It’s a beautiful story of love and redemption and not just romantic love either, but the love of a family. Of a family disemboweled by loss, abuse, and degradation. I truly enjoyed reading this series and watching the Walsh siblings grow and learn that there is love for them, from each other, and others. Also can I just say how much I adore Judy and the Commodore? They have just swooped in and loved up these poor kids and made themselves Grandparents to all the babies, biological or not.
