I love Ms. Stevens but I especially love her international series because she use her travels in her books. You are seeing this countries through her eyes plus I love her alpha Male characters.
I have been waiting for this newest addition to the series and it was worth the wait! Interesting characters, well written book with a great storyline made for an entertaining romance read. Enrique is not your typical pirate, he is cultured, hot and when he is face with Leira he doesn’t know what hits him. It started out slow but picked up as the pieces connect in the mystery surrounding Enrique’s mom death. I enjoyed how all the previous story makes a connection to this newest. Overall a good read.
This series delivers stories that do a terrific job placing the country as a supporting character. This time were given Enrique and Leira. The banter between the 2 gave us chemistry we look for in leads. Slow burn before we experience the pace picking up, but done well so you can savor these moments. Camilla Stevens consistently gives us a story we can escape to.
Enrique is a pirate on a misson. He steals from the rich but it is part of a larger plan to get close to the man who killed his mother and avenge her death. While carrying out his plans, his life is turned upside down when he spots a young woman named Leira swimming in the water near the spot where he keeps his hidden treasure. As he gets to know Leira better, he finds out she has her own secrets that she wants to keep hidden. Over time, they both realize their lives are intricately linked.
Camilla Stevens is great at building up tension and suspense in her novels. She makes you believe that danger is right around the corner. Unfortunately, some of her previous novels don’t live up to the anticipation. By the time you get to the climax, the dangerous actions happen “off-screen” and they are explained by a main character later on rather than being shown and played out in present time. This minimizes the danger that was lurking around the main characters throughout most of the novel and it makes it feel like no real stakes were lost or gained. The climax ends with a whimper instead of a bang.
Thankfully, in this novel, Stevens came through with an action-packed finale. The lives of the main characters were on the line and we got to see how it all played out. This novel didn’t disappoint. The story was filled with unexpected plot twists. In the end, Leira and Enrique received the HEA they truly deserved.
The Pirate and the Nun
The Spanish Pirate is the eighth book in the An International Legacies Romance series by Camilla Stevens. This book is the story of Enrique (Eric) Marin and Leira Montoya. Eric is a character initially introduced in The Monte Carlo Shark as he was involved in a deal with Magnus.
Eric is a modern day pirate without the peg leg, eye patch and parrot sitting on his shoulder. But he still sails the high seas, robs from the rich and stashes his treasure on a small island. It is there that he encounters Leira.
Leira is a virtuous young woman. She is twenty years old and is spending the summer in seclusion at a nunnery on a small island before going back to finish her last year of university. During her time at the nunnery she is being “silent”, as they have a vow of silence.
Leira is swimming on a secluded beach with a cove when a ship sails in. It turns out to be Eric and his crew of pirates. When he sees the young woman swimming he strips down and dives in. As she is swimming away he grabs her and then pulls her aboard his ship. But as she has taken a vow of silence she is not talking so the conversation is a bit interesting. They do have an attraction that becomes a slow burn before they finally fall into bed. Along the way they sail to Ibiza and Barcelona where they have some very sensuous experiences.
This is a well written book that has a great story-line and interesting characters. You just have to love a modern day pirate who is cultured, mannered and oh so very sexy. As with some of Camilla’s other books I found this one to be drawn out to much and in need of a good editor. I found myself skimming or skipping pages as it was just too long. If you edited out at least a hundred pages the story would still be intact and you would not lose anything. But that is my opinion. I still liked the book and loved the characters.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
Enrique is a modern day pirate, relieving bad people of ill-gotten gains. Leira is a young woman hidden in a convent by her father for her own protection. One day she finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time and her adventure with the enigmatic Enrique begins. He is just as intrigued by her brave, innocent beauty. “The Spanish Pirate” has an entertaining plot, interesting characters, detailed settings, mystery, danger and an ever present sense of excitement for what is going to happen next. A simmering lust to love romance!

Captivating 5 stars – It is a credit to the author’s writing skill that my attention was sustained during the first few chapters. I’ve never read a book before where one of the main characters has no spoken dialogue for the first few chapters and yet I was captivated by the story. I’ve encountered books from other authors before where there are extended internal monologues that I couldn’t tolerate but Ms. Stevens’ book is different. I think it’s because the internal dialogue is part of the plot and the plot in itself is very exciting. Also, the mystery of Enrique’s and Leira’s back stories created suspense. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]
Enrique Marin has his mind set on achieving the ultimate revenge against the man who killed his mother and has thought nothing else since the day he found out the truth. That is, until the day he lays eyes on Leira Montoya. After spending some time together they realize that not only are they more alike than different, but they also may share the same enemy and that’s when the fun begins.
The Spanish Pirate is a thoroughly entertaining story from beginning to end. These two adventurers, Enrique and Leira, take you on a intriguing journey of mystery, murder, and passion. On their chance meeting, they started a domino effect of events that neither saw coming but definitely enjoyed the ride. The author did a great job laying out the story making me feel as though I could see things as they were actually talking place. I loved it and have to say that this is probably my favorite couple in the International Legacies series so far.
What an ending to the International Legacies Romance series!
Camilla weaves plots and characters to then twist them together in an unbelievably romantic, suspenseful story. Enrique plans to seek revenge against his father next, but his past is catching up to him. Leira may be hiding at a convent but holds her own in a challenge. Fate plays a large part in Enrique and Leira’s interactions and their intertwined family secrets. To keep his secret, Enrique takes Leira with him, which increases his risks as his past catches up to him. Will Enrique settle the debt, and complete his revenge in time to keep everyone safe? You have to read to find out and will love the ending!
The Spanish Pirate was a fun entertaining read. Although it started out a bit slow once it got going it got much better. Enrique and Leira had intense chemistry despite coming from different worlds. This book has it all romance, mystery, suspense, secrets, steam and a great epilogue. I look forward to reading the next addition to the International Legacies series.
Slightly disappointing Pirate
After the previous book, The Monte Carlo Shark, I had high hopes for this book and could not wait. It is unfortunate that these expectations weren’t met. This is not to say that there is anything explicitly wrong with the book.
The story was slowly built and ambled along until approximately the 60% mark. Both Enrique and Leira were likable characters, but I didn’t feel a strong connectiin with them. The book also did not envoke any strong emotions in my either.
Still, written well enough to be entertaining.

Part of the series this book can be read as a stand alone. Grab your passport. This book takes you on a tour of Spain that leaves you feeling that you can picture the country and see the sites. Pair that with an action packed steamy story line filled with more twists and turns than your favorite roller coaster and this book is definitely a winner.
