This one-volume edition marks the 75th anniversary of Lewis’s classic science fiction trilogy featuring the adventures of Dr. Ransom on Mars, Venus, and Earth. It includes an exclusive foreword compiled from letters by J.R.R. Tolkien, who inspired Lewis to write the first volume and on whom the main character of Ransom was largely based. The Space Trilogy is a remarkable work of fantasy, … fantasy, demonstrating the powerful imagination of C. S. Lewis.
The Space Trilogy, Omnibus Edition includes:
Out of the Silent Planet
Dr. Ransom, a Cambridge academic, is abducted and taken on a spaceship to the red planet of Malacandra, which he knows as Mars. His captors are plotting to plunder the planet’s treasures and offer Ransom as a sacrifice to the creatures who live there.
Perelandra
Having escaped from Mars, Dr. Ransom is called to the paradise planet of Perelandra, or Venus. When his old enemy also arrives and is taken over by the forces of evil, Ransom finds himself in a desperate struggle to save the innocence of this Eden-like world.
That Hideous Strength
Investigating the truth about her prophetic dreams, Jane Studdock encounters the fabled Dr. Ransom, who is in great pain after his travels. A sinister society run by his old adversaries intends to harness the ancient powers of a resurrected Merlin in their ambition to subjugate the people of Earth.

I love Lewis’ Sci-Fi, and the Narnia series. Before BookBub, I wore out my first set of Narnia volumes and had to replace them!
I plan to reread The Space Trilogy, because it’s that kind of a series, not fun and adventure filled, but thought-provoking and evocative. I found it interesting, but perhaps a bit tedious. At the same time, the worlds and adventures are worth taking another look at. You know that C.S. Lewis is always worth another look.
I love sci-fi and I love books that make you think. These books caused me to think about some profound matters, while taking me on the most incredible journeys of imagination! Perelandra is one of my all time favourites!
This is a fantastic series that keeps you on your feet intellectually, making you think about the meaning of life, as well as mankind’s place and purpose in the universe.
I’ve read all three books in the trilogy multiple times. If you’re not interested in Christian allegory, this isn’t the series for you.
Having said that, I like the second book, Perelandra, the least. It might have worked better as a slightly shorter story, more in line with the length of Out of the Silent Planet. The first book has tremendous world-building. I love the language lessons.
The third book, That Hideous Strength, is very different from the other two. It’s a book that haunts me and it’s the one I’m most likely to re-read when I’m looking for something interesting but familiar.
Be ready for a LOT of them of the century religion. Taught me to che do books more closely before diving in.
Great book with an interesting take on the Christian creation narrative
From one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century.
I picked up for a thought provoking ride. Somewhat attained but difficult to get through following in the mind of a narrator. In a way, story telling through the eyes of the narrator dictates, to some degree, the reader’s direction. I prefer more of a free thought approach. Besides, I am not fond of story lines that create unacceptable characters. Aliens, to me, have to be within the realm of belief I have established over time. The characters established here fall outside that realm.
Thought provoking
C.S. Lewis never fails to capture intellect & spirituality in equal measure.
Brilliant and insightful – looks at many implications of our relationship with science, as eel as a fine sci fi story!
The first two books are great That Hidden strength is a bit more difficult but recommend. Very good parable using Christian symbolism. Not as good as Chronicles of Narnia but well worth reading.
I enjoyed this series more than Narnia.
I like this kind of science fiction and of course C.S. Lewis is always a good read.
C S Lewis does a great job writing science fiction with a Christian perspective. It was well written and easy to follow throughout. I am a Christian who happens to be a sci-fi buff and it appealed to me on both levels.
Interesting philosophical novel beautifully written by a word master.
Changes your perspective (bigly).
read these books first many years ago. loved them then, love them now! Wonderful!
Read these books twice at different times in my life and will read them again as it gives an idea of what would it been like with Adam and Eve….
