Patrick
That hair.
That fucking hair.
It was everywhere, always, and I wanted to tangle my fingers in those dark curls and pull.
And that would be fine if she wasn’t my apprentice.
Andy Asani was nothing like I expected. She was exotic and scary-brilliant, and the slightest murmur from those lips sent hot, hungry lust swirling through my veins. Outside … hungry lust swirling through my veins. Outside my siblings, she was the only person I could name who shared my obsession with preserving Boston’s crumbling buildings.
Andy
My wants were few: good eats, tall boots, sweaty yoga, interesting work. One incredibly hot architect with the most expressive hazel eyes I ever encountered and entirely too much talent in and out of the bedroom wasn’t part of the original plan. Apparently he was part of the package.
Wine was my rabbi and vodka was my therapist, and I needed plenty of both to survive my apprenticeship. Especially with Patrick Walsh leaving love notes in the form of bite marks all over my body.
*This is the second book in The Walshes Series, though it reads as a stand-alone novel.

I love how each book in this series gives me more about the Walsh family and the other characters. I also love how each book is different from the others. Grumpy Patrick and Andy with her “Hmmm…” were everything that I didn’t know I needed. On to the next!!
Loved the whole series!!!!
The Space Between is the second book in Kate Canterbary’s Walsh series. Patrick is a control-freak, alpha male who doesn’t suffer fools gladly and is not thrilled with the idea of taking on an apprentice, no matter how talented (or attractive) she might be. Andy, in true Canterbary form, is a strong, capable woman – that’s not to say she doesn’t have her own set of issues, but she’s no wallflower and more than holds her own against Patrick’s grumpy, growly demeanor. The dynamic between the two is great – Patrick doesn’t quite know what to make of Andy or his attraction to her and Andy deals with both physical and professional attraction to Patrick.
One of the best things about this series is the Walsh family interactions. Despite all of the family dysfunction, they are relatable and realistic. Oh, and the sexy times are HOT, as always!!
4.5 “I guess I found a new author to fangirl after” Stars
Yes, baby! Is there a better feeling than reading a book by a new to you author that totally works for you? The Space Between was my introduction to Ms. Canterbary’s writing, and let me tell you, it left a very, very, very good first impression.
Patrick is, basically, a mountain man in architect clothing. Growly, gruff and with zero tolerance for BS, he is the head of the architectural firm he runs with his siblings. One look at Andy is all it takes to realize he is in for a very long, and hard, 6 months.
Andy only wants one apprenticeship after graduating, and that is under the one architect that truly inspires her: Patrick Walsh. Their crazy chemistry and too-strong-to-allow-brain-functions attraction is not going to get in her way of learning from him. But if being literally under him were an option…
Although considered mildly inappropriate, the pull between Andy-apprentice and Patrick-mentor is too strong to resist. Working in close quarters and getting to know each other only strengthens their attraction and soon they are succumbing to it.
I completely adored both Andy and Patrick. Andy seems a bit cold and closed off at first, but through her interactions with Patrick and the other Walshes, we get to witness the different layers that make her who she is. I loved her drive and focus and her nerdy side. Sometimes, her need to protect herself drove me crazy and I wanted to help her sort herself out through some old-fashioned bitch-slapping, but it actually made for a very “human” character.
Patrick was fabulous. Besides all his red-headed, bossy-alpha sexiness, he was totally lost in how to react to his feelings for Andy. I absolutely loved how he was towards her, and although he didn’t have the best childhood and he had a lot to work through, he was all in once he realized what Andy meant to him. That’s not to say he wasn’t a total jerk and made some very stupid shit once or twice, but what can I say? The adorable oaf just did it for me.
“Are you going to kick me out for eating snacks in bed?”
“The only reason I’ll ever kick you out of bed is to fuck you on the floor.”
With both Patrick and Andy having some serious issues to overcome, this is a relationship-driven romance. It has a great pace and I was totally sucked into the story from the very start. There’s awesome banter, off-the-charts-and-sizzling-hot chemistry and don’t even get me started on the sexnanigans… Just, trust me, you want to read this one. I can’t wait to read about all the remaining siblings!
This story is about the eldest Walsh sibling, the stoic Patrick and Andy. One of my favorite things is the alternating POV’s between the two of them. Also the interaction with the other Walsh siblings. Kate amazes me with her ability to pull you into the story so easily. It’s almost as though I am there, a fly on the wall so to speak. Her second book of the Walsh series is another literary masterpiece. It’s funny, makes you think and has you cheering Patrick and Andy through the process.
I am truly enjoying this series! Love the connection the Walsh siblings have with one another, especially Patrick & Matt (the conversation in the attic was hilarious!). Andi was a nice addition to the group, as she made instant connections with not only Patrick, but those close to him as well. Such a fun and entertaining story…..and once again, I can’t wait to read about the rest of the Walsh family!
The entire Walsh series by Kate is wonderful. These are ‘can’t put them down’ ‘gotta read them all ‘books. The characters are wonderful. I want to be part of the Walsh family!!!
10 stars
Another exceptional story in this series. I truly enjoy the authors writing style and can’t put her books down until finished. Amazing characters, fast paced plot, unexpected twists but above all, the writting…I get to a certain part of her stories and just stop and reread that certain paragraph again and again in total awe…I do this a lot. Andy and Patrick are a joy to read even through their struggles.
This is my favorite Walsh Family series book. Kate Canterbary stuns this reader with the originality and engrossing storytelling that had me reading chapter after chapter with the inability to put it down until ‘The End’.
Seriously? You thought I was kidding with my disclaimer on book one? We are at book two which is now my favorite.
Andy and Patrick…where do I start. I fall desperately in love with any female lead that is driven, not a doormat in a male dominated field. When writers can bring to the page the reality without losing it to dramatics – win for me. And then Patrick. He is just one of those infuriating heroes you want to either kick in the balls or kiss his lips off. Between the angst of ‘will they both give in’, you’ve got humor and sexiness that just steams off the page. The dynamic of the push/pull that Ms. Canterbary delivers is in perfect tempo. Not too much push you off to give up and not too much pull to leave you drained. In addition we begin to get more and more dynamic of the other siblings that is going to lead to a perfect family saga series.
Foot down: You will read book one and you will read in order. Huge, HUGE mistake if you jump on books. Although others will say it can be read as a standalone, you aren’t going to walk away from the series. Kate Cantenbary is giving us more depth and insight so I stand firm on recommending as a whole read.
If you aren’t familiar with Kate Cantenbary’s writing, she has become one of my top five storytellers that I connect with. I insist on book one, but if you ignore me, you’ll fall in love with her writing and just go back anyhow. So just trust me. If you’ve read book one, book two now builds on that Walsh Family world with more emotions for an engrossing and entertaining read. 5 out of 5 stars.
The Space Between (The Walsh Series #2)
Kate Canterbary
This is a sequel book but can be read a standalone. Kate is such a fantastic author, she pulls you in and holds on to you until the very end. This book is chock full of humor, sexy times, and angst. Patrick and Andy are perfect for each other. Andy with all her little “hm’s” and Patrick with all his growling intimidation, it’s such an entertaining read with all the fun interaction between the Walsh siblings. This series a great go to if you need a humorous entertaining read to lose yourself in.
