I’ve been in love with him forever. But to him, I’ve always been off-limits. Until the night that changed everything. Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the secrets we shared. Maybe he finally opened his eyes and saw me. By the time the sun rose, I’d lost him again, my heart shattering on his parting words: “It was a mistake.” So I ran. Ran until I was thousands of miles away, in a country I … miles away, in a country I didn’t know, surrounded by people who only made me miss him more.
I never expected him to follow me … or to pry more secrets from my soul. In exchange, he gave me more of his secrets too.
The more he let me into his heart, the more I loved him, but I’m afraid that some secrets may be too big to overcome.
This is a standalone novel about unrequited love.

Lotte has had enough loss in her young life that learning to keep things inside and finding a different way to deal with life seems to be hurting herself more than helping her cope.

Sometimes taking a risk isn’t even an option. Sometimes you just love them regardless.
This is a beautiful written story of an emotional journey. One that takes its time slowly building so that we may digest every secret that is making a sound.
No one wins in love… Because it’s a Gift.
The Sound of Secrets is starring friends from the authors previous novel, The Weight of Life. Lotte and Sam who were strong secondary characters take the lead in The Sounds of Secrets. (Be on the look out for other friends.)
The Sounds of Secrets is a chance to grow. A chance to move on and yet…Lotte learns a lot about herself on this trip. Sam learns some interesting things as well.
The sounds of their secrets pressing in on them all around. What would it be like to be free of the chains those secrets bind them in?
Guess you should read it and find out.
The Sounds has an intense vibe but didn’t bring the same feels as the authors previous book. I didn’t even need tissues. But it is still a compelling tale.

Sweet. Stunning. Heartbreaking. Beautiful. Seriously, I am in awe of this book by Whitney Barbetti. I was captivated with Lotte and Sam’s story from the beginning, and I was sad when I got to the end. I loved everything about this book. I absolutely adored Lotte and was completely intrigued by Samson. They both had secrets they were unwilling to share, which caused them both some inner turmoil. Yet, when they were together, all the fears they had melted away. When Sam & Lotte learned the secrets the other had been keeping, they didn’t judge the other for it. They helped each other through it with understanding and love.
I seriously cannot say enough wonderful things about this story. It touched a spot in my heart and won’t forget Lotte & Sam anytime soon.
Wow this book broke my heart. Lotte has been in love with her brother in law’s best mate forever but he treats her like a little sister until one drunken night and one stolen kiss. Sam can’t admit the truth to Lotte so he lies and breaks her heart. So when tragedy strikes her, Lotte decides to go away and find an adventure away from her heartbreak. I loved this story although this story broke my heart several times over. Strong and believable characters that I fell in love with. Definitely a must read author.
If you’ve read The Weight of Life, then you are familiar with these characters. Been waiting on Sam and Lotte’s story and it was so full of heart. There is so much to this story. One thing I’ve noticed with Whitney’s stories is that they address real issues that people don’t talk about and should be out in the open more so that people aren’t alone and can seek help. In this story that H & h each have their own issues, thus the title. It balances just the right amount of lust, angst, chemistry and sexiness. Lotte takes her trip to the US to find herself and when she runs into a roadblock, Sam comes over to bring her back to the UK. They embark on a journey where their secrets can’t be hidden any longer and are forced out into the open. It was written with the perfect amount of delicacy and honesty. I definitely felt the characters’ struggles right in my heart and I won’t lie and tell you that I didn’t get emotional over it.
