What makes a man fall in love? Violet Farthingale is desperate to know because she has just been caught in Captain Romulus Brayden’s home with her gown unlaced and his hands too far up her legs to explain away. It … legs to explain away. It was an innocent misunderstanding, of course. She was attacked by bees and he came to her rescue. No one seems to care that nothing happened. She is now forced to marry this handsome stranger. Everyone knows Farthingales only marry for love, so how does she make this big and brawny Royal Navy captain fall in love with her? And how will she fall in love with him in under a week?
Romulus Brayden has always loved the sea, and now it seems he’ll have to learn to love Violet Farthingale, because she is going to be his wife. Honor demands it. After all, he did have his hands on her luscious body, and while her behavior was innocent, his certainly was not. Lusting for Violet is not the same as wanting her as his wife, but there is no way out of this scrape without ruining her, and this he will not do. She is insisting on their reading The Book of Love together. Well, why not? Braydens marry for love.
Can this book lead them to love before he is recalled to duty hunting down pirates along the Cornwall coast?

I so enjoy this author’s work, and this series is simply wonderful! I highly recommend you read Romulus and Violet’s story.
I loved Romulus and Violet’s love story! Following the advice in The Book of Love, they explore a relationship in a unique, thoughtful, teasing way. Lots of slow-burn chemistry between Violet and Romulus wrapped up in wonderful dialogue and terrific writing! Sweet, refreshing and sexy — a great read!
Meara Platt The Song of Love (The Book of Love 4)
I loved this book and the series.
Violet Farthingale was happily reading the book given to her by her family when she was attacked.
Captain Romulus Brayden has just bought a new house when screaming alerts him to a problem. Little did he realize that rescuing the lady would be witnessed by the smallest but most influential gossip in town.
Our little songbird learns that some people do unkind things with good intentions and others kind things with bad intentions.
Our hero has a very good instinct about people, which he will definitely need.
A really fun story with very loveable characters. I have read and enjoyed each book in this series. Each book can be read separately.
If you have read the reviews, you know by now that this is a hilarious romp on Chipping Lane. Meara Platt has created heartwarming, family driven stories with characters you will want to be part of your own family in this series!
Captain Romulus Brayden, after spending years in the Royal Navy, is on leave while his ship is being repaired & has moved to his house on Chipping Lane. Rom is handsome (sigh worthy), a natural born hero, wise, honorable, kind, with a great sense of humor. The last thing he was thinking about was marriage.
Violet Farthingale is lovely, kind, innocent. quite naive & is about to make her debut in her first season. Violet is in possession of The Book of Love, which will detail the interactions between ladies & gentlemen & how their brains are different. The snippets from The Book of Love only adds to the hilarity & Violet’s obvious innocence.
The accidental compromise, of Violet right after they meet, causing a marriage leads the reader on a side splitting, romantic trip with a couple finding their way to each other & a love to last a lifetime. The scene when Violet sings to Rom just had me completely choked up & I fell even more in love with both of them.
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Beware the curse of Chipping Lane! Violet has come to London for her first season. Given the Book of Love by her sister, she attempts to read it, but is beset by bees. Upon coming to her rescue, Romulus Brayden falls prey to the curse. Can these two brought together by accident find love?
The Song of Love by Meara Platt is an enticing story about a young man who has just moved into a house on Chipping Way. Romulus Brayden has heard about the Chipping Way curse but he had laughed it off. Shortly thereafter he find himself tending to a young woman named Violet Farthingale who has been attacked by bees. As everyone knows, the way to sooth a bee sting is with vinegar applied directly. If the bee sting is beneath clothing, it must come off. Such is the way. Then the witnesses arrived. Amongst them one of London’s most notorious gossips, Lady Withnall, small but mighty, who has made it clear she will spread the inappropriate gossip far and wide it they are not betrothed within the week. Rom now believes in the curse.
Both determined not to marry, this is an entertaining story of how love can change minds. It is an entertaining plot with a cast of character to match. Violet’s uncles are worth the price of admission, alone. Rom is an upright young man, prepared to live the life of a bachelor after his years in the Royal Navy, who was only trying to aid a lady in distress. Violet is a relatively immature young woman who has been given a book, the scientific explanation of the interactions between men and women, including a chapter on the differences between the male and female brains. The interjection of this book and its philosophies throughout the story make for entertaining interludes. This is a thoroughly entertaining book, full of two people falling in love. I recommend it.
I received a free ARC of The Song of Love from Dragonblade. All opinions and interpretations are solely my own.
When I read a book like The Song of Love, it makes me wish that Harlequin still did movies. This was a delight to read. I love the characters and story-line. This is a feel-good story, a book that will make you forget about the world’s ills for a few hours. I enjoy reading a story where a couple works through their problems — not that this couple had major problems, but it was refreshing to read about them asking each want they wanted as far as marriage and other things in life. There is a steamy love scene, but it is between a married couple and that gives the book another A plus from me. I love authors who don’t shy away from showing romance and intimacy between married spouses.

My review :
When found in an involuntary compromising situation, how will two promptly engaged persons react together …
It is no secret I preorder every new release by Mrs Meara Platt, since the first Farthingale tale I have read, I since follow every new release.
So when an other Farthingale meet a Brayden, it can only be a sweet and lovely story in-the-making.
Violet, aptly named, is a lovely young miss only weeks away from her debut. But everything turned to ash when she is found in a compromising situation.
This first scene was just hilarious.
The matchmaking bees!
She is a sweet and caring young soul with the voice of an angel.
Romulus is young too but like the other Braydens, he choice duties to his country over anything else. Yet, he is the first to fall under the Chipping Way Curse. He is quickly besotted with his new bride-to-be, even if he denies it at first.
Their tale is one of a double love, the one they have and will only grow with time and the one between every members of their big family broods.
Together they have no real hardship to get to know one another, as they are companion souls, kindred spirits.
But what will be a Farthingale story without a bit of drama.
As while they come along perfectly, things around them are not always so smooth, up to them to decide whom deserved their trust and faith.
It is so good to see again all those Farthingales and Braydens, I have never enough of them.
A lovely new installment in the book of love series demonstrating that what might appear at first as an impossible turn of circumstances with bad luck can also be the best thing in one’s life.

Oh Meara, this has been such a wonderful series! Her writing speaks to my heart and I am always excited to become captured in one of her stories that are perfect for a historical romance!
The Book of Love has already “helped” bring three matches together, so it should be able to aid Violet Farthingale and Captain Romulus Brayden toward that emotion!
Caught in an innocent compromising situation (it had to do with bees and of course honey!), the Captain feels honor bound to marry Violet and he only wants to learn to love her. Braydens only marry for love after all!
But Violet wants them to read that book together and see if they cannot find that elusive emotion.
Love, Love, Loved this one! Don’t miss this or any in this series. Heck, any book that Meara Platt has written!! I would say she gets better and better, but she is always great, no matter what story she writes!!
It all started with bees.
Romulus is caught with his hands up Violet’s skirts and her dress unlaced. What a scandal! They have one week to fall in love. Reading the book of love will teach them how. Full of laughter and a few tears, the romance of Romulus and Violent is an adventure including both of their unconventional families. Never a dull moment for an entertaining read!
After an innocent misunderstanding Violet Farthingale is caught in a compromising position in Captain Romulus Brayden’s home with her gown unlaced and his hands too far up her legs. Romulus knows his duty is to marry her, but she’ll only marry for love and she has one week to see if she can love and marry Romulus. Romulus Brayden has always loved the sea, but now it seems he’ll have a wife he lust after. I loved watching these two they’re chemistry is amazing especially as they read the book of love together. An excellent story with wonderful characters I voluntarily wrote a review for.
Thank goodness for The Book of Love and a swarm of bees. How else would Violet Farthingale met the handsome and single Captain Romulus Brayden. Of course, it did not help that the whole neighbor heard the screams and found them in his kitchen pouring vinegar on her bee stings with her dress undone. And so the tale goes and keeping it from society seems to be the only natural thing to do. Meara Platt has given us another special insight into the happenings of this Book of Love, that seems to hold magic in its pages.
