“Foster convincingly brings her characters to life against the idyllic backdrop of Kentucky farmland. This down-to-earth romance will especially appeal to animal lovers.”—Publishers Weekly on The Somerset GirlsNo one knows you quite like a sister… beginnings. Through it all, the ties of sisterhood will be there, guiding Autumn and Ember to the lives, and loves, they need…
When they’re running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync. At all other times, not so much. Dependable Autumn would rather curl up with a good book than paint the town red with Ember. After the disaster that was Autumn’s last relationship, it’s pure self-protection. But when her high school crush comes back to town with his adorable young daughter, igniting memories best left forgotten, there’s only one person Autumn can turn to…
Beneath Ember’s free-spirited facade is a layer of deep hurt. She’ll gladly nudge Autumn toward a second chance. But risk her own heart? Not likely. The closer Autumn gets to her own happily-ever-after, the more Ember wonders what she might be missing—and if it isn’t her time to be bold, too.

This was a charming, well-written book. Autumn and Ember run an animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, and always have each other’s backs, although their personalities are very different. Autumn’s high school crush comes back to town, bringing up old feelings, and Autumn turns to Ember. Ember hides her hurt under a free-spirited facade, but starts to wonder if she might be missing out. All of the characters in this book were so fun to get to know, and the story moved quickly. I didn’t want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and would read other books by this author.
I believe this is my favorite book by Lori Foster! It’s a great read and is like being transported to farm life, which is sometimes messy. You will definitely enjoy all the animals! The romances are realistic and I read this entire book in two days. I needed to know how things turn out. You won’t be disappointed!
I voluntarily reviewed this book with an advanced copy.
The Somerset Girls is a warming love story. It tugs at your heart from the beginning. I could not put it down. It has very lovable characters and I hope there will be a sequel.
I recieved an early copy in trade for a honest review.
The Somerset Girls is an amazing read. I couldn’t put it down. I love the dynamics between the sisters Autumn and Ember. They have this amazing bond that has them knowing when the other needs them. They are strong ladies that you will adore. You can’t help but fall in love with this book. There is just that little something special about it that you will love. I love Autumn’s passion for design and animals. She is amazing with Tash’s daughter Sadie. You will fall for Sadie for the start and giggle along with her. Tash is an amazing father and finally sees what no one really sees in Autumn. I love them together. I love that we get multiple romances going on in The Somerset Girls. Lets not forget Ember. She is stronger then you think and but puts up a front. You feel her pain when her story comes to more light. I love the banter between Ember and Mike. He is perfect for her once he understands more about her. You will love each couple and love this family bond. The Somerset Girls is a perfect rainy day read. It is effortless and sweet and completely will fill your heart so much.
Autumn is content spending her time working, taking care of her family, the animals her and her sister rescue, and indulging in ice cream instead of men. Then her high school crush, Tash, comes back to town with his adorable daughter and everything goes topsy-turvy. The Somerset Girls, from the characters to the story, is fun, full of emotion, and you won’t want to stop reading. Another great read from Lori Foster.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
This is a story about sisters and how you may not always agree with them but you have each others back no matter what is going on. Autumn and Ember have one of those relationships that spans a lifetime of up and downs. Autumn gets reacquainted with a old friend and his daughter and the sparks fly. Ember has suffered hurt and is hesitant to let Mike know that she is interested and scared. There parents are comic relief and the entire story is entertaining and a great read. If you love animals and sisters this is your story.
This is a wonderful read in a world gone crazy. Two sisters who have each other’s back through it all. As the saying says no one knows you like a sister. These two struggle through life to come out on the other side with their happy ever after. Love the story. Lori Foster always comes through with a good story to lighten the soul.
I felt like from the cover and the blurb this would be a little more women’s fiction-y, and it was, but there were still 2 awesome, sweet, and steamy romances going on and I loved them!
Autumn and Ember Somerset are sisters and best friends. They work together, times two: Autumn is the designer, and Ember the construction expert in their business, and then together, they also run an animal rescue farm, on the land that they inherited from their grandparents. They also converted the old farm house into a duplex, and they each live on one side. They built a house for their parents on the property too, fit to their needs, as their dad is disabled after a stroke. They’re both single, and both have been through some major issues in the past that still affect them. But, while Ember still puts herself out there and dates, Autumn has become a homebody and has no further interest in dating. Autumn has always been the “stable” one, and Ember, the “free spirit”. Mostly they’ve been pigeonholed into those roles by their mother, and neither of them is particularly happy about it.
Autumn, as a teenager, had a mega crush on a boy 2 years older than her, Tash Ducker, but of course, he barely knew she existed. After high school, he left, and Autumn hadn’t seen or heard of him since, until he rolls back into town as a single dad, with a gorgeous 7-year-old daughter. He wants to hire Autumn as a designer to fix up his daughter’s new room, and a build a play set in the backyard. Autumn is still drawn to him, but tries to keep things professional. But, Sadie is the sweetest little girl and before long, Autumn and Tash are friends, and Autumn adores Sadie. Next, she’s hanging out WAY past their design appointment times, for dinner with the sweet father and daughter, and trying to keep her feelings under wraps.
Ember, has had the hots for their farmhand Mike Brewer, pretty much since he first showed up in town, but they’ve always danced around each other. They’ve both dated around, but it’s become apparent that their mutual attraction needs to be sated. They both think the other person is only interested in a temporary arrangement, meanwhile they’re both thinking that once will never be enough. Mike has a past he’s never talked about, and Ember has had tragedy in her own past as well. Can they open up to each other and move on together?
This story, while about each sister’s romantic relationship forming, was also really about the sisters and their connection. It touched on how people’s roles in relationships get ingrained, and how hard it is to break out of them, even with family. Also, it shows how inside your own head, you might have to talk yourself out of doing and thinking the same old things about yourself too. Each sister had a very different personality and people always made assumptions about each of them, based on that, though many times those assumptions were flat out wrong. I really enjoyed watching both Autumn and Ember figure out what they really wanted out of life, and how to go about getting it. Each sister wanted to help the other one out too, of course, to varying degrees of success!
Both of the couples were great, and you were really pulling for them the whole time. Each of the couples had very different obstacles to overcome, and I liked watching them work things out. There were definitely serious issues touched on in this story from multiple characters’ histories, including: pregnancy loss, death of a parent, divorce, alcoholism of a parent, body image issues, and adultery, that could all be traumatic for some readers. But almost all of these things happened in the past, and were only talked about as memories on page. Only Autumn’s body image issues were an ongoing situation.
I really enjoyed this story, even more than I expected. I adored the growth of each of the characters, and how hard they each worked to make happiness happen in their lives. I loved how close the sisters were, and how they were always there for each other, no matter what. And the little girl, Sadie, was such a sweetheart, and a fantastic character in her own right. I definitely recommend this story, for anyone who’s a fan of this author’s voice, or even if she’s new to you!
What a refreshing read! Autumn and Ember are the Somerset sisters. They have the unique closeness that I think all sisters crave. Enter Mike and Tash. Although Autumn and Tash are the main characters, I liked the way that Lori works in Ember and Mike. Each have their own issues and find their way with friendship, patience and love. Of course the animals played a big role in the story and had me laughing out loud! Their names are awesome! The elder Somersets also have a part in the story and Sadie stole my heart! I want to keep her too! If you like Lori’s books, you’ll rawly enjoy this one as well.
I received an advanced copy and this is my unsolicited and honest review.
Family can heal wounds and form new beginnings
Lori Foster exemplifies the power of a loving family again in her newest novel about two sisters surviving past pain and leaning on each other to form new beginnings! This is the first of Foster’s books I have come across that did not include a thriller element in the climax. This is an enjoyable story with happy moments, those of recovery, and joy spread throughout.
This story focuses on Ember and Autumn, two sisters that have both experienced different brands of heartache and live each day knowing they always have each other to get through. With the encouragement of sisterhood, both women branch out of their comfort zones to explore new loves that may just last a lifetime and add a few more members to their family.
My only disappointment with this story is that it did not last longer! I wish I could hear more about Autumn and Ember’s lives after the last chapter of the book. I would love for a sequel to come out! Lori Foster does it again by pulling the reader into a story of love, loss, motherhood in all forms, and family!
Great characters. Love Autumn and Ember. All of them. Autumn’s family is crazy. Anyone who wants to get involved with her has to put up with her crazy family. They may be a little crazy, but they love each other. Autumn has had a crush on Tash since high school. He barely knew she existed. He has noticed her now. He has moved back home with his little girl. The more time the three of them spend together, the more they know they should be together. Mike has worked at the farm for the last couple of years. But, the sisters really don’t know anything about him. Ember wants to know him but she isn’t sure how he feels. Mike has secrets, can Ember discover what they are and make a life with him? We shall see.
Perfection.
The book.
The characters.
The farm.
The story.
All of it was utter perfection. And gave me good feels.
I would not and could not ask for anything more from Lori Foster.
As always, I highly recommend this book.
Happy reading!
Note: I have voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this title.
Foster did again, another wonderful story.
Loved that this book had story of two sisters.
Both are dealing with what happened in past, different way.
Autumn is dependable, want to stay home, while Ember is outgoing, first to party.
Now, looks like they have to put their hearts at risk for happy future.
Are they willing to do this?
Loved this book.
The Somerset Girls, is a fun read from Lori Foster. Two sisters that run an animal rescue farm, and the men that interest them. Autumn has no time for a man in her life, and after a heartbreaking experience Ember just seems to want to have fun. This book is much deeper than that, and I found it to be a fun and inspiring read. Its a feel good story in a time of pandemic which I think we all need something to take out mind off of our problems. I would recommend this book to all my friends.
I received an Advanced Readers Copy from NetGalley and the publisher Harlequin and this is my fair an honest review.
Lori Foster The Somerset Girls
** I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
Lori Foster I believe this is your best book to date. I loved this book. I love the sisters and their relationship. I love the setting being on the farm. This story was so great everyone should read it.
It is light and it easy reading. In this time of a virus and being on lockdown for two months this is the perfect book to take you to another place of joy and happiness.
Thank you for such a great story.
Whenever I pick up a book by this author, I know it will be one that I will not only enjoy, but will remember for quite sometime. This one was no exception.
The Somerset sisters are night and day, but also loyal and supportive of one another. While Autumn is the reserved and dependable one, Ember is the flighty one, or so it seems.
With their parents, they live on a rescue farm, inherited from their grandparents. By profession one is a designer the other the builder, but in their hearts, their hearts is in rescuing all the abandoned critters.
A boy from their past, now a single dad with an adorable child, has moved back in town and needs their help in designing and building the perfect room and backyard for his young daughter. A child whose deceased mother was not gentle with her, and one whose Dad, Tash, is determine to love and make happy every single day.
The story of these families and specifically the two sisters, will touch your hearts. Both have been deeply hurt. But it’s Sadie, the young daughter, Tash, Mike (Ember’s potential future) and the sisters parents, that make this a family story that is touching, at times heartbreaking, but also heartwarming.
The author gives the reader another book with an engaging story, and well developed characters .
Looking forward to more stories by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a sweet story about the bond between sisters, family and romantic relationships. Autumn and Ember are sisters and are as different as night and day to the outside world, but they do share their deepest secrets and fears with each other. While Autumn and Tash are the main love story, we also have Ember and Mike fighting their attraction (but not for long). I enjoyed the slow burn of Autumn and Tash’s relationship; however, I also felt the story lacked some spice to hold my interest. Tash’s seven-year-old daughter, Sadie, stole the show. She was so sweet and innocent, yet broken down by her mother. Her vulnerability and conversations with Tash had me tearing up in several scenes. Autumn is so loving to Sadie; along with the entire family. The parents are a hoot and had me laughing out loud. I wish that we had gotten more insight into Ember and Mike’s romance, as I loved them just as much. Overall, this is a quick, easy read that will leave you in a great mood.

I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last page!
The Somerset a Girls is a warm-hearted story about two sisters, Autumn and Ember and their story rings true of all sisters. Family will always be there for you during the best and worst moments of your life. The girls each have their own careers with Autumn an interior designer and Ember a carpenter they inherit a farm from the late grandparents which they decide to start an animal rescue for abused and abandoned animals. They also build a house on the farm for their parents. They each are searching for their own happily ever after and it is a great joy to follow each girls journey. My favorite character is Sadie, she is a sweet loving girl with a heart to big for her little chest, her way with all the animals is so endearing. If you enjoy a good uplifting story this is the one for you.
I received this ARC from Netgalley, and this is my honest review
The Somerset Girls is the perfect springtime read. I really enjoyed this book. It is a light-hearted story of love, friendship, and family. The style of the Somerset Girls is very similar to Foster’s previous books Sisters at Summer’s End and Cooper’s Charm. The main focus of the story is the relationship between sisters Autumn and Ember, two sisters who love and support each other despite their dramatically different personalities. Both of the sisters have had previous heartbreaks and have supported each other through their healing. Together the sisters run a farm for rescued animals as well as have full time jobs. Lori Foster has a talent for incorporating rescued animals into her novels. This story provides readers a look of the hard work and dedication it takes to run an animal rescue.
The story develops when Tash moves back to town with his seven-year-old daughter. Tash was Autumn’s high school crush. She never has quite gotten over her crush and still gets completely tongue-tied when she sees him. After crossing paths with Ember, Tash hires Autumn and Ember to design and build a bedroom and play yard for his daughter. Through this business arrangement the relationship between Autumn, Tash, and his daughter Sadie develops. Lori Foster demonstrates the challenges single parents have with dating and romance and the factors influencing their decisions.
I was surprised to see Ember’s love story develop in this book. When I started reading, I was hoping her story would develop in a follow up book. I am a big fan of connected books because I like to check in on characters from previously read stories. I enjoyed Ember’s and Autumn’s story lines and the development of their romantic and familial relationships. I feel both stories might have been able to have more depth and details if the sisters had their own books. Then again, the stories wove together very nicely and produced a great story.

Really enjoyed reading this one. The family dynamics between sisters is believable. You get romance stories for each sister and was glad I got to have both stories in one place. It’s well written easy to follow and not to heavy yet enough going on to keep my interest. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
