“Foster convincingly brings her characters to life against the idyllic backdrop of Kentucky farmland. This down-to-earth romance will especially appeal to animal lovers.”—Publishers Weekly on The Somerset GirlsNo one knows you quite like a sister… beginnings. Through it all, the ties of sisterhood will be there, guiding Autumn and Ember to the lives, and loves, they need…
When they’re running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync. At all other times, not so much. Dependable Autumn would rather curl up with a good book than paint the town red with Ember. After the disaster that was Autumn’s last relationship, it’s pure self-protection. But when her high school crush comes back to town with his adorable young daughter, igniting memories best left forgotten, there’s only one person Autumn can turn to…
Beneath Ember’s free-spirited facade is a layer of deep hurt. She’ll gladly nudge Autumn toward a second chance. But risk her own heart? Not likely. The closer Autumn gets to her own happily-ever-after, the more Ember wonders what she might be missing—and if it isn’t her time to be bold, too.

Lori Foster never disappoints. She takes you to Kentucky farm country where two sisters run an animal rescue. The sisters are close but both have issues that they find difficult to shake off and even so, they have a solid bond. Toss in a quirky family (highlight quirky) as well as finding they are living up to invalid expectations by aforementioned quirky family, you already have a winning book. Add in 2 great guys and one sassy girl, you end up having a recipe for the perfect relaxing read with hot romance, heart-tugging storyline and a good, warm feel especially when the real world is hit with pandemic and quaratine.
Mike and Tash are both so very different men but fit their respective heroines so very well. They are flawed as all humans but not jerks. Tash is such an awesome dad to his Sadie which forms a big portion of his and Autumn’s story. Mike is fun-loving, arrogant but has his heart in the right place even while he is trying to figure Ember out. Ember’s heartbreak is truly heartbreaking but his relationship with her has her coming out of the pain and showing who she truly is.
HIGHLY recommend this book.
Great new book.
I love this new town that is introduced to us with this book. Autumn and Ember run an animal sanctuary while also doing their day jobs.
I really loved these two ladies and the men that seem strong enough to get them.
3.5*
The Somerset Girls is a light, easy, read- perfect for a lazy weekend afternoon. Although my sister and I no longer have a relationship, it’s nice to read about ones like Autumn and Ember- opposites who may not agree on everything but are always there for each other, no matter what. I liked the way they bantered, but still had the other’s back when needed- especially Ember. She didn’t hold back when it came to wanting Autumn to step out of her comfort zone, but she was also the first one there to defend and “protect” her when needed.
I enjoyed the the way Ms. Foster was able to weave Autumn and Ember’s stories together. Considering they work and live together it would have been hard to have one’s story without the other- it would have felt like something was missing! They may have been complete opposites- Autumn the quiet, unassuming bookworm, and Ember, the vivacious, outgoing, “party girl”, but deep down they both were dealing with some very personal issues. I appreciated how Ms. Foster handled those issues- not allowing the story to be weighed down by them, but also not glossing over them.
The romances were sweet- well Autumn and Tash’s was, I’d say Ember and Mike’s was more on the spicy side! Which actually fit for these sister’s personalities. I loved that Tash put his daughter as a priority, wanting to make sure she felt safe and loved after her world was turned upside down. Sadie was such a sweetheart, I just wanted to hug her!
This was a definite feel-good story, all around.
I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect book for the times we are in now. I was able to lose myself in Somerset Sister and the Animal Farm Rescue they run together. Autumn and Ember are sisters who both have issues with a past. I love how much they both support each other.
Autumn works herself to the point of exhaustion and Ember puts on a happy face and pretends all is well. The family bond is wonderful. Not only do they run a rescue farm because of their love for animals, both have full time jobs. Autumn is an interior designer and Ember builds homes. They are work together beautiful.
I love the romance that befalls each of them. An old crush returns for Autumn and Ember’s is right there on the farm. Each sister had to overcome a past fear and hurts before they could move on. This story tugged at my heart and I loved the sweet little girl, Sadie, in the story. A wonderful HEA for the perfect summer read.
Somerset Girls is Lori Foster’s best work yet! Autumn and Ember are amazing sisters, who know each other better than they know themselves, and they both have a huge heart for animals. Autumn and Ember have unique, down-to-earth personalities and struggles that are relatable to everyone. A romance for each sister and a little girl (who is absolutely adorable) weave their way into the sisters unsuspecting hearts. The way Autumn and Ember lives are intertwined makes me wish for a sister for myself! Many laugh aloud (literally!) moments. A feel good, can’t put it down book.
The two sisters are running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync but yet so different. Autumn would rather curl up with a good book (that’s me) and Ember is a free spirit.
This book was so much fun to read, I loved it. The sisters were so much fun and they had their own special things they do The rescue brought me close to what my niece does in Alabama. Autumn was so cool to be that talented. with power tools and Ember with her designs. Both had bad memories of passed relations but finally but it behind them.
Then everything changes when Autumn get a job working for her a guy she had a crush on in school when he comes back to Somerset with his daughter. His daughter gets really close to Autumn. Neither one of them want to admit they have feelings for each other. Ember keeps pushing but she won’t admit she has feelings for Mike who works for them at the recuse farm. Then they go to swim party at the beach where the whole town goes.
I could not put this book down because I had to keep going to see what was going to happen next between the four of them. But they helped their parents who they had built a house for on the farm since their father had a stroke. Loved Loved Loved this book.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book but what I found was a wonderful heartfelt read. Not having sisters I loved reading about the sisterly bond between Ember and Autumn. It was wonderful the support and love they had for each other. It was like reading two books in one with both sisters navigating their romantic relationships to a HEA. Highly recommended read
Lori Foster never fails to bring all the feels into one of her books!
I really enjoyed this book.
Not only do we get Autumn and Tash’s story, but we also get Ember and Mike’s story too.
Autumn and Ember have an amazing relationship. Of course there are bumps and bruises, but through it all, their love for each other shines.
In my opinion, Sadie was the star of this book. This little girl will break your heart while stealing it at the same time.
Tash is yummy as all Lori’s hero’s are.
The Somerset Girls is truly one of those summer feel good books that leaves you smiling in the end.
Thank you Lori for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Ice cream makes the world go round!
This is a fabulous story of love, life, laughter and finding the joy in simple things. Lori Foster has a way of making her stories so real and true to life. We all have issues be them self esteem, bad decisions or just plan bad luck and her stories always seem to help put them in perspective.
I love reading Lori Foster, this was no exception. She writes real families, and real feeling scenarios. I always get attached the the characters, haha. I loved the growth and the aha moments in this book! I really enjoyed the young girl who gets a special attachment with the rescue animals. As a big animal lover and rescue advocate I really enjoy seeing that spotlighted in books. Also the steamy happy ever afters are always a bonus:)
Autumn and Ember are sisters, taking care of their family farm where they care for animals that had been abused. As much as they work hard together, the sisters are so different personality wise. I loved how Autumn was more quiet, happy to stay at home with her books and read. However her quiet existence was going to change soon, when her high school crush Tash moved back to town with his adorable daughter. Ember is the sister who is the life of the party, who with her personality and how she has treated her sister at times drives their farmhand Mike crazy. I enjoyed seeing how the sisters interacted with each other, how they had to learn to open up and how they supported each other. Both went through painful times but both ended up shining! I also loved Tash’s adorable little girl and the animals on the farm.
This is the perfect summertime romance and is like getting two books in one. Sisters Autumn and Ember have full-time jobs but also run an animal rescue on the farm that was left to them by their grandparents. As can be expected with sisters, they have their moments. But there is no stronger bond than what they have for each other and they always have the other’s back when needed.
Tash is back in town with his young daughter. Autumn had a crush on him in high school and Ember has arranged for Autumn to do some interior design for Tash. His daughter is so precious and who can help but fall in love with her. And as the three of them spend more and more time together, they all help each other to heal their wounds.
The other romance in the story is between Ember and Mike. Mike has worked on the farm for the last couple years but Ember hasn’t given him the time of day – until the anniversary of a tragic event. Once she starts to take notice of Mike, things get real interesting.
Aside from the romances, I loved the humor in the story and how many of the characters had their eyes opened to seeing themselves in new ways. And the Somerset parents were somewhat eccentric and memorable.
Wow ! This story truly touched my heart ! It shows families may not always outright show their love but it can be right under the surface . I loved the farm and closeness the Autumn and Ember share . Mike who works at the farm is such a hard worker and already seem to be a member of the family .Tash and Sadie move back to his hometown when tragedy strikes their family .
Like the rest of the world, coping through this pandemic can be a little overwhelming for me. I was in desperate need of a read to lift my spirits. Just a book that would make me feel a little better, a little happier, a little safer. Thanks to The Somerset Girls, I got my escape with this feel good read full of lush writing and a full and loveable cast of characters.
I fell in love with sisters Autumn and Ember. Who wouldn’t love girls that ran an animal rescue? While completely different personalities, their love for each other was evident and I found myself identifying with both of them. While Autumn was responsible, no frills, more reserved and insecure, Ember covered her vulnerability behind a fun loving, light hearted mask. Both sisters were strong, sweet, intuitive, and caring. And both deserved their happy ever after.
Tash had grown up in Sunset, Ky and had recently returned to raise his daughter and re-establish his life. She was his primary focus. He’d put women from his mind and was putting all his attention on his child. But he couldn’t ignore his reaction to Autumn. Mike had come to Sunset and the Fresh Start Farm in search of something new. A place where he could restart his life and decide what he wanted out of it. The more time he spent with Ember, the more he knew what that something was.
When both of these couples find each other, sparks fly and emotions are tumultuous. Their journey to love is intoxicatingly quirky, perfectly paced, and all around fun to read. While their attractions were instant, the building of their romances was slow, sweet, and sizzling.
I love romances that aren’t just about the relationship between the main characters but also the relationships between family and friends. The Somerset Girls is a heartwarming story about those sometimes complicated relationships. It’s filled with vivid characters in honest, believable relationships. Those kinds of connections where you may drive each other crazy but you’re still each other’s biggest supporter. It’s a humorous, heartwarming, and emotional story. If you’re ready for an escape, turn off the news, and curl up with this un-put-downable book. It’s just pure FUN.
I received an ARC and I’m freely reviewing.
You know how, you find that author that can weave a story that will tug at your heart, make you smile and/or laugh and that you just genuinely love their style and ability to capture you. Lori Foster is that author for me. She’s the one that when you grab the new book, you do the comfortable wiggle to settle in because you know it’s going to be good and this one is ooh soo good.
We get 2 couples in this book, Autumn and Tash and Ember and Mike. Autumn and Ember are sisters and they are thick and thin sisters are pull each other up and are constantly at each other’s back in a way that no one else will. Autumn is the “good and dependable” sister and Ember is the “pretty and flighty” sister. Each sister is aware of their role and embrace it but their love for each other and others is fantastic. Tash is Autumn’s high school crush who comes back to rebuild and make sure his daughter (Sadie) is in a safe and good place. Ember has been watching Mike, their handyman/go to gent, and he has been watching her. We get a little more for Autumn and Tash and that is good with me, I loved their interactions, talks, vibe. This story definitely tickled my funny bone. I laughed a lot throughout because this family is about love and laughter and it works. The guys fit their women to a tee and it’s amazing. You won’t be disappointed with this storyline, only sad when it’s over.
I really love Lori Foster’s new stuff because it’s more plot driven than formulaic driven. In the 90’s and 2000’s you would know exactly what page the steamy content was on and now it doesn’t follow that trend anymore. I loved Somerset Girls so much because it wasn’t about just one person, it was about Autumn and Ember. However, Ember is the one who you wonder if she’s gonna get her second chance. Everything about this book screamed “Original!!” I love having children in books because it makes them so much better. This is definitely one that everyone should read, plus it has animals in it!!
3.5 stars
Somerset Girls is a sweet take on two sisters discovering that second chances do exist.
I found myself liking and relating to Autumn right away, but it took a little bit for Ember to grow on me. Mike, Tash, and Sadie are key players that I found myself enjoying right along with the Somerset sisters.
This is a well written, easy read that also touches on important topics. We see self esteem and self image issues addressed in a gentle manner. The big one for me – and our characters as well – was the idea that we live up or down to the expectations set for us. This was something both Autumn and Ember struggled with and I loved what happened when they started to stray away from those ingrained ideas.
Definitely more of a “relationship” book vs what I would consider a traditional romance, Somerset Girls is something that is a great read. I found myself relating to it on multiple levels.
Foster knows how to pull on your heart strings. She combines sister, parents, animals and romance all in one. Autumn and Ember have a close sister bond, while having different life experiences which shaped how they tackle their personal lives. Together they manage a unique animal refuge while caring for their aging parents. Autumn and Ember both find their perfect romantic match in Tash and Mike while overcoming past experiences. My favorite character was Sadie, Mike’s daughter, who’s simple enjoyment of everything, kept me smiling or laughing with the interaction of the saved animals. Can’t wait for her to grow up and have her own book. Each relationship is relatable and at the heart of everything is family.
My new favorite Lori Foster book.Loved escaping reality and getting lost into the world centered around the Fresh Start Ranch for a few hours. I liked watching all the relationships evolve, especially the one between Autumn and Ember. Loved the slow burn between Tash and Autumn. Ember ended up surprising me in the best way. Sadie was so cute and so strong. This book left me feeling like I had just gotten a hug from my family.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
What a charming read! This is the story of two sisters working together on their rescue farm and design company as they deal with family, life and business. Autumn and Ember have always been opposites, Ember a free spirit and Autumn the more stable and they have their battles but love is stronger. After being jilted by a cheating fiancee Autumn has found that ice cream is better than men and she has no want to find one either, fine with staying home with her animals. Ember on the other hand has always been the party girl, hiding her true feeling behind her fun party girl exterior and her bold personality. But life never follows a straight path, enters Tash, the older boy Autumn had a crush on in high school, he’s back in town single with his precocious little girl that’ll steal you’re heart. Ember has demons of her own, one being a sexy farm hand she had sizzling hot chemistry that she is trying to fight. This book is fill with wonderful characters, family love and heat, just makes a great read.
