“Foster convincingly brings her characters to life against the idyllic backdrop of Kentucky farmland. This down-to-earth romance will especially appeal to animal lovers.”—Publishers Weekly on The Somerset GirlsNo one knows you quite like a sister… beginnings. Through it all, the ties of sisterhood will be there, guiding Autumn and Ember to the lives, and loves, they need…
When they’re running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync. At all other times, not so much. Dependable Autumn would rather curl up with a good book than paint the town red with Ember. After the disaster that was Autumn’s last relationship, it’s pure self-protection. But when her high school crush comes back to town with his adorable young daughter, igniting memories best left forgotten, there’s only one person Autumn can turn to…
Beneath Ember’s free-spirited facade is a layer of deep hurt. She’ll gladly nudge Autumn toward a second chance. But risk her own heart? Not likely. The closer Autumn gets to her own happily-ever-after, the more Ember wonders what she might be missing—and if it isn’t her time to be bold, too.

The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster is a wonderful story about the relationship between sisters and how they nudge each other toward second chances. Any book that features animals and adorable little girls are always enjoyable reads.
If you are looking for a new author or have read Lori in the past then you will enjoy reading this book. The characters are well developed and the story line is one that is enjoyable and well written.
Lori Foster never fails to give you a story full of amazing characters who pull you in from the start. I love the spunk and personalities of the sisters and their ability to know when the other needs them. This story have five very amazing characters and a farm full of rescue animals. Great story about finding the one you want to spend your life with. Highly recommend adding this book to your TBR list.
I loved this story! Love the bond Autumn and Ember have and how much they want to take care of all the abandoned animals. When Autumn’s old crush comes back to town with his daughter, I just smiled at her antics! I loved the slow way that both girls come to find love, not sudden, just a slow progression for each of them. This would be a great sit on the beach read, or curl up on the couch on a rainy day read. I wish it was a little longer, or maybe there’s room for a sequel?? 🙂
This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher/author. All opinions are my own.
I really loved this book. I could hardly put this book down. I mean it has my kryptonite a single dad. Tash’s little girl is so adorable. Her back story hit me right in the heart. I loved Autumn. I want to be friends with her. Some of my favorite parts of this book are the scenes with Autumn and Tash’s little girl. They warmed my heart. What I also loved about this book is you get two love stories for the price of one. Autumn and her sister Ember both go on that journey. This book packs in the heart and feels. If you’re looking for a feel good romance that’s going to leave you with a smile on your face look no further. This is a book I would highly recommend because you’re easily going to fall for all the characters. They’re going to win a piece of your heart in all the little things they do.
As the oldest of four girls, sisterhood is something I know a lot about. In her latest novel Lori Foster introduces us to Autumn and Ember. Two very different sisters living on and running their inherited animal rescue in Kentucky. Their relationship is different then any I have known but underneath still runs the bonds of sisterhood. This story wasnt my favorite of Lori’s but I laughed and cheered for the women as they found eachother and fall in love. Autumns love story with single dad,Tash and his daughter Sadie is a sweet, heart warming one. Autumns struggles to see her worth in the area of love is one alot of women will relate too. I recommend this novel to anyone looking for a great summer read, a HEA and a story of sisterhood.
I recieved an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I loved Autumn and Ember. The sisters had such a strong bond and understood each other even from across the room. Having her high school crush move back to town threw Autumn a curve ball. Not only was he still gorgeous, but he could read her almost as well as her sister which was unsettling at first. They had to learn to open up to each other and what they both wanted. Meanwhile, Ember had troubles of her own with their head ranch hand, Mike. As they all learn to navigate falling in love and living life, the past creeps in. Read along as the Somerset sisters find out if love can overcome pain from past secrets.
This book has a little of everything. Past hurts, insecurity, lots of laughter, slow building relationships, and quirky families! The connection, love and interactions between sisters Ember and Autumn was so authentic and believable. You have an adorable little girl who will both break and steal your heart throughout the entire book. And who could ever resist the rescue farm and all the animals, especially Pavlov. There is wonderful chemistry leading to lots of funny and emotional moments between the main couples. I received an advanced copy of this book, but all comments are my own.
Loved this heartwarming, sweetly thrilling journey filled with engaging charters, witty dialog, emotionally deep sisterhood and exciting side of romance. Really loved this highly entertaining and very fun journey.
Autumn was a bit younger than Tash when they were in school but had a crush on him, she felt he never really noticed her. Tash moved away and she stayed, set down roots with a business and inherited her grandparents farm and takes in abandoned animals of all kinds. She’s reserved, dependable, more the homebody of the two Somerset sisters, while Ember is considered a party girl and more noticeable. However, the closeness and strong bond between the two sisters is hard to miss. It’s Ember who sets up an appointment for Autumn with Tash and pushes her to go meet with him. He’s as hunky as she remembers and now has a 7 year old daughter, Sadie. His ex has passed away and he’s now raising his adorable, easy to love little girl and doing his best to help her adjust to a number of changes. He hires Autumn to decorate and make some changes to his home and during that time together, they become quite drawn to each other. While she’s sworn off men because of a bad relationship and he feels he’s not ready nor is it fair to Autumn to become involved because his main focus is his daughter. Ember has a secret of her own and both flirts and is irritated by Mike, the man that works on the farm for the two sisters. Luckily both of these men are patient and give the sisters the space they need to realize they are the perfect guys for them. Great relationship between the sisters and even the men share a bond plus they all love Sadie!! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Lori Foster is one of my favorite authors and she never disappoints. The Somerset Girls is another great heartwarming story about the relationship between 2 sisters and their journey to their happy ever after.
Autumn and Ember’s personalities are so very different yet underneath they are both hiding vulnerabilities that make them more alike than they think.
When you add in Tash, Sadie and Mike you have two great love stories with loads of chemistry and they just complete the girls lives. I’m an animal lover so of course I love all of the animal characters as well and the fact that they run an animal rescue was very enticing for me.
As always Lori’s characters are well written and so realistic and relatable. She never fails to deliver a great story. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily review and Advanced Readers Copy. Lori Foster has always been an auto buy for me and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
This is a feel good romance and woman’s lit story. Autumn and Ember are sisters who are close but as different as could be but come together to start an animal rescue farm. They each have a side story with different romances, one sweet and one spicy, and even though they banter like sisters they have each other’s back and no one should try to come between them. This was typical Lori Foster at her best and it has a high recommendation from me. This would be a perfect summer weekend read or this summer it would make an anytime read!
4.6 stars
This is a truly heartfelt and warm story that gives one all the good feels. Autumn and her sister Ember are continuing to run the animal rescue farm founded by their grandparents and will do whatever it takes to succeed and take care of those animals in need. Along with the farm, Autumn is a designer and her sister is a builder. Together they make a perfect team. Tash is a single father who has recently moved back to his hometown and enlists the help of the sisters to remodel his home and make it special for his daughter as she is coping with the loss of her mother. Autumn had a crush on Tash when they were back in high school. Will business and pleasure mix? As a secondary romance, Ember finds herself getting involved with Mike a ranch hand. This is another wonderful character driven storyline from Ms. Foster that will have you wanting more. I volunteered to read an advance copy provided by Netgalley.
I love the family relationships in this book; Autumn and Ember have a great relationship working together on their own businesses while helping the family business. Both women are so very different but are right there for each other when a need arises. Enter in two good men, one with an adorable daughter and you have a really sweet, steamy and fun read.
The Somerset Girl is the latest release by one of my favorite authors, Lori Foster. In this newest novel, we get pulled into the world of sisters, Autumn and Ember Somerset. They are pretty opposite, as far as sisters go, but their core values remain the same. Helping as many animals as they can on a daily basis.
Autumn is a designer that has built up a pretty good business for herself. Her sister Ember is a contractor that can build just about anything a client requests. They share a house, along with their dog Pavlov, on their grandparents farm in Sunset, Kentucky. They built a home for their parents, together, on the land as well.
Autumn has settled herself into a nice, comfortable routine. Which is promptly thrown out the window when her sister casually announces that Tash Ducker is back in town. 16 years ago she had a major crush on Tash that, if her response to that announcement was any indication, was still intact. Finding out that Ember booked her an appointment with Tash, who needs a designer, does little to douse the mortification she now feels.
Tash is back in town and he isn’t alone. Raising his 7 year old daughter alone has him in a world he is learning to navigate. Being back in Sunset isn’t quite where he pictured himself now, but he is doing what needs to be done. He finds himself intrigued by Autumn and wondering what might be?
Ember likes everyone to think she is a cool cat, that very little affect her. On the inside though, she is as vulnerable as anyone. She has a love hate relationship with Mike, their farm hand, but she wants it to be all love.
Mike sees the real Ember, even as much as she tries to hide it from the world. He knows he is the man to break down those walls and show her it’s ok to live her truth without worrying about others’ opinions.
Another wonderful novel from Ms. Foster that puts me smack dab in the middle of the Somerset family. I voluntarily read an advance copy without expectations for review, all opinions expressed are my own. 4 ½ solid stars for this glimpse into the lives of people who could be my neighbors and friends.
I very much enjoyed this book. I’m not usually a reader of women’s fiction, which this book is categorized as. I’m more of a romance fan, because I always want a happy ending. So while there are definite elements in this story which reflect the women’s fiction genre, I’d argue that it’s equally a romance, but with two couples instead of just one.
I thought all the characters were wonderfully written. Ms. Foster has a great handle on developing intriguing personalities, some this reader loved and some she tolerated. While Tracy and Patricia are annoying, I didn’t hate either one. Even Autumn’s ex, who’s a skunk, inspired very little feeling in me. He’s was more of an annoyance…more like a fly to be snatched away. I liked both male leads, Mike more than Tash (that name bugs me) honestly. Sadie was an adorable spitfire. She’s my favorite character in the book and her happiness was my greatest concern.
So, here my issue with the story. Autumn and Ember are great. I thought their sisterly relationship was powerful and real. While sisters can be very different..in looks, temperament, personality…I really do not like the portrayal of body size used as often as it is. I find it infuriating that the “small” sister is the ideal body size. The “big-boned” one…I HATE that phrase…is the self conscious one. Can we break that mold please. While I do not want any female…fictional or real…to have body image problems, not every thin woman is happy with their body, nor is every larger woman unhappy with theirs.
That’s my beef with the book. I did like it, I read it all in one sitting and was very satisfied with the growth in characters and the ending. I’m always going to be a Lori Foster fan, and whatever issues I have with a storyline aren’t going to change that. Because of that, my rating gained a half star to make this a 4 star instead of a 3.5.
Really the family dynamic story of these two sisters, Autumn and Ember and their relationship with each other, intertwined with romantic relationships / dynamics that they both find themselves in! It was a great story with multiple layers and I enjoyed getting to know the characters!!
I loved everything about this book – the farm setting, the animals and the fun & flirty romances. The Somerset Girls is a wonderful story filled with love, laughter, friendship and family. I hope there will be more books set in Sunset, Kentucky!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley.
What a great book about sisters and family. 2 sisters who own an animal rescue. Autumn is the “quiet” sister, content to sit at home. Ember is the sister who is the life of the party. Until Autumn’s high school crush comes back to town with a daughter. Ember has been trying to get the attentions of the rescue’s handyman…will she?
A great spring, or anytime, read to help take you from the snow to the heat!
I enjoyed this book from the first page to the last page!
The Somerset Girls is a warm-hearted story about two sisters, Autumn and Ember and their story rings true of all sisters. Family will always be there for you during the best and worst moments of your life. The girls each have their own careers with Autumn an interior designer and Ember a carpenter they inherit a farm from the late grandparents which they decide to start an animal rescue for abused and abandoned animals. They also build a house on the farm for their parents. They each are searching for their own happily ever after and it is a great joy to follow each girl’s journey. My favorite character is Sadie, she is a sweet loving girl with a heart to big for her little chest, her way with all the animals is so endearing. If you enjoy a good uplifting story this is the one for you.
I received this ARC from Net galley, and this is my honest review
This book is now in my list of top 3 favorite Lori Foster books! I loved the relationship between the sisters Ember and Autumn. It was such a true representation of sisters. Tash and his daughter Sadie were such a sweet father/daughter team. Plus, you have Mike who works for the sisters on their farm where they home the animals they have rescued. This story ties everyone together beautifully. It is all about connections both new and old. This story was so full of love! I absolutely recommend this book!
