“Foster convincingly brings her characters to life against the idyllic backdrop of Kentucky farmland. This down-to-earth romance will especially appeal to animal lovers.”—Publishers Weekly on The Somerset GirlsNo one knows you quite like a sister… beginnings. Through it all, the ties of sisterhood will be there, guiding Autumn and Ember to the lives, and loves, they need…
When they’re running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync. At all other times, not so much. Dependable Autumn would rather curl up with a good book than paint the town red with Ember. After the disaster that was Autumn’s last relationship, it’s pure self-protection. But when her high school crush comes back to town with his adorable young daughter, igniting memories best left forgotten, there’s only one person Autumn can turn to…
Beneath Ember’s free-spirited facade is a layer of deep hurt. She’ll gladly nudge Autumn toward a second chance. But risk her own heart? Not likely. The closer Autumn gets to her own happily-ever-after, the more Ember wonders what she might be missing—and if it isn’t her time to be bold, too.

This book is full of love……….love for animals, love for family, love for each other. Foster takes you on a trip of self rumination of love and family and, mostly, of ourselves. Hopefully you will feel better about yourself after reading this exquisite book.
Lori: Sorry it took me awhile to get this read but what a pleasure it was to read it. I love stories where sisters are close and can bicker and fight but when someone else goes after them they are fiercely loyal. All of us at one time or another go through a tragedy in our lives and how we handle it affects the rest of our being. I was so glad that both the women in this story were strong enough to face their problems and find strong men who would never hurt them again. I also loved how you gave each woman the strength to choose her own destiny and go after it not waiting for a man to come rescue her. This is a great beach read but I am seeing also a great read on the day of a first cold front, in front of the fire, hot chocolate of coffee read. I so enjoy all of your works and enjoy keeping up with you on your website.
I am not sure what everyone else read, but I read a very different book. I did not enjoy any of it. Okay, I loved the little girl and the animal rescue, but the rest… not at all. I even had to stop listening at times. I got to chapter 7 and wanted to throw my phone on the ground and stomp it into a million pieces. Most people in this book are not likable. Not even a little bit. Autumn is sweet and kind, but needs some self confidence and a backbone. She just sits back and lets life happen and cleans it all up for everyone to her own detriment. She just goes along with what everyone wants and takes it. I just couldn’t deal with her. Ember has been through some terrible things, but who hasn’t. Doesn’t explain why she has been manipulating her family for the entirety of her life, think she is adorable, that her looks and body can get her whatever she wants and treating her sister like crap unless it it is self serving. She messes with Autumns life just for her own entertainment. When she wants more and it doesn’t immediately happen she again decides to use manipulation rather than have an actual conversation and then completely stick her nose into her sisters business rather than trying to be an adult. Reading about Ember makes me so happy I have a brother. The mother is certifiable and if she were my mother I’d have run away when I was a toddler. She created the way the sisters act, Honestly, I found her behavior emotionally abusive and a hideously craptastic mother. It was clear to any and everyone around who was her favorite and that Autumn didn’t see it was because she was so completely used to being treated like a second class citizen. Big boned? Ugh. And don’t get me started on Tash. Grow a spine and a set. His only redeeming quality was his daughter. He didn’t deserve Autumn. And Mike, no. Just a big fat no. He and Tase deserved each other! So I did finish because I paid for the audio version and was hoping I would start to like it, but it didn’t get any better in my opinion and I want my 10 hours back.
THE SOMERSET GIRLS by Lori Foster is a contemporary, adult, erotic, romance story line focusing on the Somerset sisters, and the men with whom they will fall in love: interior designer/animal rescue operator Autumn Somerset and single father / advertising executive Tash Ducker; and builder Ember Somerset and farm hand Mike Brewer.
Told from several third person perspectives THE SOMERSET GIRLS follows Autumn Somerset as she comes face to face with her high school crush Tash Ducker upon his return to Sunset Kentucky. Tash is a divorcee/widower with a seven year old daughter, and is looking for someone to redesign a few rooms but Autumn struggles in the wake of a failed relationship where she was left at the altar by her cheating ex-fiance. Rebuilding her friendship with Tash Ducker has the added benefit of his daughter Sadie, a precocious seven year old child who struggles with her own issues of trust and love. Tash, claiming he has no time for a sexual relationship finds himself falling for the woman that will steal his heart.
Meanwhile, Ember Somerset struggles with a heart breaking secret, a secret only her sister knows. Mike Brewer ‘s attraction to Ember pushes all of her buttons, an attraction that is mutual but one Ember refuses to admit. Mike is desperate for some one on one time with Ember Somerset, and makes Ember an offer she is reluctant to refuse. Both have secrets that neither one is willing to share but a mutual compromise reveals a growing love for this story line couple.
Lori Foster pulls the reader into a heart warming and emotional story of family and love; of betrayal and loss; of acceptance and moving forward. All of our story line characters, including Autumn and Ember’s parents Flynn and Tracy, have life experiences that are tragic but it is the experiences that form the person that each will become. The character driven premise is inviting and enjoyable-the conflict is minimal; the romances are seductive and intimate; the $ex scenes are passionate; the characters are real and animated. THE SOMERSET GIRLS is an uplifting and inspiring story of two sisters who find love and their own happily ever afters.
I loved the Somerset Girls. This was an easy story to get lost in and the characters where real and likable…Great story line.. Hard to put down..
Polar opposite sisters who live/work together on a farm for rescued animals find love. Autumn and Ember make a dynamic duo in the safe haven that they have made. This is a fun beach read that portrays two sisters with some emotional baggage find and secure themselves some love.
What did I like? I knew I’d love this story because not only do you get one HEA but you get two. Autumn is the more humble sister… after being jilted two weeks before her wedding she holds ice cream above any time spent with a man. A high school crush returns to town and she slowly starts to warm to him. Ember has a depression of a sort after losing a baby, and her only fun seems to be arguing with the hired help. Both these sisters are just amazing and the work they do to rescue animals such a huge part of who they are. There is more of a story here than individual romance but it’s a fun and relaxed read.
Would I recommend or buy? No brainer this author just looks great on my shelf. You can find her books easy…. whether it be a store or library. If your beaching it this summer then this is a great beach read! Loved it!
Thoughts for the author! Congratulations on your new release! Smashing book…. love the animals. Such a warm and welcoming book with a casual atmosphere! Five stunning stars.
I received a copy from Netgalley and this is my opinion!
My Thoughts:
The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster was a charming second chance romance. It was the story of two very different, but extremely close and loyal sisters. We get two delightful romances in this book, as well as such a touching story with family as a focus, and extra emphasis on sisterhood.
Thirty-two year old Autumn Somerset was jilted at the alter three years ago. Since then, she’s sworn off men, and instead indulges in books and ice cream. Younger sister, Ember Somerset is known for being fun loving, feisty, and free-spirited, but she too has suffered loss. Together, these two sisters run a business where Autumn designs, and Ember builds. On top of their business, they live on and run an enchanting rescue farm, where they built themselves a duplex, as well as a home for their parents. After their father suffered a severe stroke, Autumn and Ember decided to take turns helping out with their parents.
When Autumn’s high school crush Tash Ducker moves back to town with his seven year old daughter, Sadie, Ember decides to play matchmaker. She sets up an appointment for Tash with Autumn, because he wants to design and build Sadie’s dream bedroom and play area. As things start to heat up between Autumn and Tash, Ember’s feelings grow towards, Mike, their farmhand. Will Autumn and Ember get the happily ever after that they both desire?
The Somerset Girls was a breath of fresh air. It was low-angst, sweet, and my type of feel good romance. I had a smile on my face the whole time I took this story in. I loved that I got two wonderful romances, as well as getting to know Autumn and Ember’s eccentric parents, and Tash’s adorable daughter Sadie. I loved the strong bond that Autumn and Ember shared, and these two women reminded me of myself and my sister. Tash and Mike were two sexy, kind, and charming leading men, and both love stories were great! If you are in the mood for a small town second chance romance, with close knit sisters, kind hearted leading men, smiles, laughs, and the perfect romantic ending, look no further!
Lori Foster has written about 2 sisters who couldn’t be more different! They are polar opposites, like me and my own sister! They were totally relatable in that fact. They both learn to love, and the story will draw you in! Autumn and Tash. And his little girl Sadie. Then Ember and Mike. There was a lot going on, but it was easy to keep up with and stay in the story. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry. You won’t want to put the book down until the end.
Personally, I prefer books with one romance going on, not two or more couples. But this was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
I enjoyed reading The Somerset Girls so much! I couldn’t put my kindle down! Lori Foster always writes such heartwarming books. I enjoyed reading about Autumn and Ember journey to love and romance. Such a fantastic and amazing read!
I am a huge Lori Foster fan and for good reason! I found her book, Murphy’s Law several years ago and have been hooked ever since. Somerset Girls doesn’t disappoint! These two sisters, as opposite as night and day yet very much alike and are easy to love. They find their happily ever after not only with their hunky guys, but with their sister relationship and their parents. I love how their story isn’t perfect and they too, come from a dysFUNctional family, I mean, what family doesn’t have some sort of dysfunction nowadays? Take a read and I promise you won’t be disappointed! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.
Lori Foster is a story telling GOD! I wanted to be part of this funny family. Mom is a hoot, the friendship the sisters have is amazing and the animals. Man I want to jump into the pages and live. Then you add the father/daughter duo of Tash and Sadie and I fell head over heels for this book.
The Somerset Girls is such a great read. The dynamics between Autumn and Ember as sisters was so realistic. They are both strong women that you will come to love. This book has that little something special about it that will make you have a hard time putting it down. This book gives you two love stories and two HEAs. Somerset Girls will make you laugh, cry and remember your love for your family. I highly recommend The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
Autumn and Ember are my heroes! If this book had only been about them and their amazing farm animal rescue, it would have been a fantastic, memorable read. But, of course, that wasn’t enough for her. She had to add more characters and relationships for us to fall in love with. Autumn and Tash. Tash and Sadie. Autumn and Sadie. Autumn and Ember. Ember and Sadie. Ember and Mike. The dynamics between all of the characters were so well-written. The pages almost turned by themselves; I couldn’t put this book down. Do yourself a favor: read this book. You won’t regret it!
When Autumn finds her old crush Tash is back in town she is excited but knows she is not her type. Ember, Autumn’s sister lines up a job..Autumn ks surprised to see Tash and his adorable little daughter Sadie. Together they find secrets Sadie has shared. Tash and Autumn have this way and decide to try a relationship. With the help of family Tash and Sadie fall in love and Autumn takes a change for them all!
Autumn and Ember Somerset run a animal rescue on the farm they inherited from their grandparents. Autumn and Ember also have run a business where Autumn is the designer for the business, and Ember handles the construction side of the business. Autumn and Ember have issues that still influence their lives with Ember putting up a front as the party girl, and Autumn retreating inward. When Autumn was in high school, she had a major crush on Tash Ducker. Tash has returned to town with his daughter, Sadie. Tash hires Autumn make over Sadie’s room and to design a play set in the backyard. Autumn finds herself still attracted to Tash. Tash finds himself drawn to Autumn physically and emotionally. As Tash and Autumn spend time together, the more their feelings grow for each other. Can Tash convince Autumn that she is the one for him? Will Autumn’s insecurities get in the way of her possible future with Tash? Ember has been attracted to Mike Brewer, their farmhand, since he showed up on their farm looking for employment. Mike is also attracted to Ember and believes she is only interested in a fling. Mike and Ember dance around each other and their feelings. Will Mike and Ember give into their attraction? Will Mike and Ember confess to each other that they want more than a fling? Will Ember confess her secret to Mike? Will Mike open up to Ember about his past? I LOVE Lori Foster, and she is a MUST read author for this reader. The Somerset Girls is a fantastic book with great characters. The Somerset Girls has laughs, tears, witty banter, outrageous parents, steamy chemistry, a precocious little girl, and happily ever afters. I would HIGHLY recommend getting The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster. I received an ARC of this book, and I am leaving my honest review.
Love! Love! Love!
Perfection! Lori Foster creates a heart warming read that is sure to tug at your heartstrings and give you a few new laugh lines! The laugh out loud fun in this book is extremely delightful. I was drawn in right from the start. I completely fell head over heels in love with these characters. Which made me become so invested and unwilling to put the book down. I did not want to stop reading at all! I flew through these pages, I couldn’t get enough.
The Somerset Girls was a truly remarkable escape that made my heart feel so much lighter. This is going down as one of my favorite books this year.
An amazing book. Ms. Foster does an amazing job of sharing the dynamics between the sisters, Autumn and Ember, as well as the dynamics with their parents. I love that the book is really about the lives and loves of both sisters . One of my favorites this year!
Great book great writer
The Somerset Girls was another good read from Lori Foster. She’s so good at creating characters that are endearing and interesting. Autumn and Ember are sisters who aren’t always as close as perhaps they’d like but as the story rolls out we learn that they’re actually very close despite their very different personalities.
I love watching Ember with her high-school crush, Tash. Their relationship just evolves so nicely. She’s so amazing with his daughter too. Autumn is harder to understand but when we’re privy to her story, she’s so much more sympathetic than I originally thought. Her relationship with Mike has so many layers and is also touching.
This close family is quirky and sweet and their new members fit in so well.
The Somerset Girls gets one of my rare 5 star recommendations.
*I received a free copy of The Somerset Girls. This has in no way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
I truly enjoyed getting to know Autumn and Ember – and while I’m usually a little indifferent to stories that follow two couples, it worked really well here!
I got the sisters and how supportive they were towards each other, and I loved both that and them. The romance was also very well done, and I got enough time with each of the couples, so I didn’t feel like one of them was left out.
Foster always manages to write characters that are well fleshed out, and I felt like they were all completely tangible here – even side characters had enough characteristics to be realistic, and there were no flat ones that were just there decorating the background.
If you’re looking for a story with strong relationships, well rounded characters, and a beautiful arc, The Somerset Girls is for you!
