“Foster convincingly brings her characters to life against the idyllic backdrop of Kentucky farmland. This down-to-earth romance will especially appeal to animal lovers.”—Publishers Weekly on The Somerset GirlsNo one knows you quite like a sister… beginnings. Through it all, the ties of sisterhood will be there, guiding Autumn and Ember to the lives, and loves, they need…
When they’re running the animal-rescue farm they inherited from their grandparents, Autumn and Ember Somerset are perfectly in sync. At all other times, not so much. Dependable Autumn would rather curl up with a good book than paint the town red with Ember. After the disaster that was Autumn’s last relationship, it’s pure self-protection. But when her high school crush comes back to town with his adorable young daughter, igniting memories best left forgotten, there’s only one person Autumn can turn to…
Beneath Ember’s free-spirited facade is a layer of deep hurt. She’ll gladly nudge Autumn toward a second chance. But risk her own heart? Not likely. The closer Autumn gets to her own happily-ever-after, the more Ember wonders what she might be missing—and if it isn’t her time to be bold, too.

This fun romance by Author Lori Foster was such an enjoyable read! The Somerset Girls is a lighter romance that covers the “single-dad” as well as “second-chance” and “enemies-to-lovers” type tropes.
Sisters Autumn and Ember Somerset are animal rescuers, wonderful daughters, and both…single. When Autumn’s high school crush, Tash Ducker, returns to town, meddling sister Ember sets up a job for Autumn to remodel his house…and his adorable daughter’s room.
I loved the way Lori Foster wrote this story! She wrote it multi POV…You get the story from Autumn, Ember, Tash, as well as Mike (the animal farm keeper)’s POV and I really enjoy that! The storyline flows so well, she writes such a descriptive scene that you can envision the setting, there is humor, an adorable (and healing) little girl, heat, and a slow burning romance. I love the gradual change of the sister’s personalities as they realized things in their lives. This book gave me an overall heartwarming and happy feeling. I really enjoyed The Somerset Girls and would recommend it! 4.5 stars from me (rounding up to 5 because it is more than a 4 star IMO)
The Somerset Girls by Lori Foster
Sisters are special
They care and share
And sometimes run a business or two together
They lend a shoulder to lean on
They give advice
They share details of this and that and
They fight from time to time
No matter what…they are there for one another
Always
I adored Autumn and Ember and loved reading the story of how both found their happily ever after. This was a story filled love, compassion, heartbreak, heart healing, family, animals and romance that lead to love.
What I liked:
* Autumn: strong, resilient, reliable with “strong bones” – quieter than her sister, compassionate and a catch…just ask Tash
* Ember: stronger than many give her credit for, smart, capable and not necessarily the “free spirt” she has been labeled.
* Tash: my oh my…a man, a father and a lover par exemplar and absolutely perfect for Autumn
* Sadie: Tash’s seven-year-old daughter that brought light, life and love to many…human and farm animl.
* Mike: another man that was a great catch and worthy of a Somerset sister – Ember to be exact.
* Tracy & Flynn Somerset: parents of Autumn and Ember and a lot more than they appeared to be at first – ended up loving them both
* The back and forth between Ember and Mike
* The rescue animal theme – have rescued a few animals myself but have not created a rescue sanctuary for them.
* The fact that both Autumn and Ember were strong women in demanding jobs, had issues from their past to deal with and came out better at the end of the book than they were at the beginning.
* Everything really except…
What I did not like:
* Chuck: Autumn’s fly-by-night fiancé that left her before the wedding – that said…she was much better off without him.
* The poor animals abandoned…hate being reminded that so many are in need
Did I enjoy this book? Definitely?
Would I read more by this author? Yes, as soon as they are made available!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
What a fun and beautiful romance. Not sure who stole the show, the child or the animals. Their mother provided plenty of eye rolling laughs too…love her or hate her.
This was a rainy day read for me, I curled up with my slippers on and dove right in. No heavy dramas, not really anyway, a lot of laughs, tender moments and loving. Great story line and fun characters, I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the ending and I still wanted more.
I read The Somerset Girls and it was fantastically written about two sister who had been through a lot and they didn’t expect things to change in there life. Autumn and her sister Ember lived on a farm and had turned it into and no kill farm. Both had jobs outside of the farm and with all that they had there parents to look after. Autumn and Ember had divided the family farm into a two family home. Autumn had designed the house and Ember built it for her parent and Autumn help when she wasn’t working on the farm and designing projects for other people. Ember and Autumn had both come into bad times where Ember miscarried a baby, Autumn got left on her wedding day. Ember had made and appointment for Autumn with a new client which happened to be her high school crush and he wanted her to design his house and backyard for him and his daughter for a new beginning. Both of girls where to totally different sister. Ember was the free style girly girl and Autumn was the one who stayed home and had the farm to take care of. Even though they had a guy who was a farm hand she still did the work. When not doing that ice cream replaced men and read Karen Rose book. But things had changed and they both to a look at life and thought where things might go and not go.
I hope Lori book does to you what it did for me and that kept me reading and I couldn’t put it down. It made me laugh and it also made me cry. It is a very emotional but also a very real life picture to me when I read it I was there with them.
Lori Foster manages to give her readers the perfect characters to forge an emotional connection with. Autumn & Ember are two sisters with different personalities that work close together to keep an animal rescue running. They both have full time careers & are trying to uphold their family’s dream. Autumn hasn’t been interested in making time to date until her high school crush, Tash comes back into town to raise his daughter. Ember has a volatile relationship with the person they have helping with the animals. Michael stays after her & shows her she can be serious too. I really enjoyed reading about the journeys these couples take as they work their ways to each other. This is a study of romance, family, love & relationships that’s takes readers on a trip through all emotions. Great story!
Ember and Autumn are both conforming to who they believe they have always been, their mother always having to say who and how they are. Both are trying to get over and recover from tragedies in each of their lives. When an old crush returns and a new crush is formed, both the girls world’s change. This is a story full of growth and love. Not only to the sisters, but to the men and the parents. One family gaines more th han just love, they gain acceptance. This love is even stronger as the girls finally realize they are themselves, who they want to be.
This is a lovely heartwarming story about two sisters and how they eventually find love. Autumn and Ember. They run an animal rescue farm which they inherited from their grandparents. Autumn is also a designer while Ember is a builder. When Tash, a high school crush, returns to town a love story develops for Autumn. Ember also finds herself developing her own love life. It’s fun to see both sisters develop both their career and their love lives. There are wonderful characters and great developments of relationships. It was a fun book with a lot of emotion and leaves you feeling so wonderful.
Autumn and Ember run an animal rescue farm. They bring in animals that have been abused. Care for them, and hopefully find them forever homes.
At first Ember made me a little upset at how she spoke to her sister Autumn. Soon though, once I heard her story and got to know her better, I liked her a lot. She wasn’t trying to be mean, in fact she was trying to be helpful. Mike, the hot guy who had been working on the farm, teased her constantly and was a thorn in her side and starred in her dreams, pointed out that maybe Ember needed to rephrase some of her comments. Soon those two grew close and had a heart to heart talk and cleared some misunderstandings up. I loved Mike , even though he could be a bit judgy, until he too learned a few things. To say their love story was great and charming and funny and hot would be an understatement.
Autumn was a gorgeous , full figured woman..who had no clue she was…the gorgeous part anyway. Tash was the guy she had crushed on in high school. Him being 2 years older and her being shy was an obstacle back then . He came back to town years later with an adorable 7 yr old daughter Sophie. Feelings quickly form between Tash and Autumn and Sophie. There are things in their pasts you will learn about that are heartbreaking. Issues they all need to deal with in their own way and with the help of each other. Tash and Autumn are wonderful together but at one point Tash totally confuses me. You’ll know what I mean when you get there. I thought at one point, “What? But you said? Oh my gosh man tell her what you want!” Needless to say he did so they did and… ..yeah. SO along with all the amazing humans in this story…including Tracy and Flynn, Autumn and Embers parents, we get to meet the amazing Povlov who has a way with scared animals. Olivia and her sister Matilda, and Tracy. You will meet them all, you will fall for them all and want to take them home. There are a few more but there should be a bit more mystery when you are reading this yourself. Agreed?
I have tried not to give too much away other than the fact that this was a great story with wonderful characters.
I received and Advanced Readers Copy for an honest review.
5/5 hoofs/paws!
A perfect time for a feel good romance. These two sisters are super close, but yet so different. They have each other’s best interests at heart, tho’ they don’t always agree on exactly what that is. The whole story kind of revolves around the animal rescue started by Autumn and Ember, with the farm they inherited. Love this and will never, ever tire of beloved fur babies in a journey, no matter what either may be, preferring happy endings, no matter how rocky the start. Their very attuned Pavlov, picked himself to be the mascot and official greeter of Fresh Start Farm.
Autumn’s old crush from high school comes back to Sunset, KY, with his adorable daughter, and this time around, he notices Autumn right back. When the whole family decides it’s the right thing, they certainly do their part to ensure Autumn and Tash get a bit of quality alone time. And by the whole family, I’m including Mike, the all around handyman who’s been with them for a few years now, and who they can’t seem to get along without, especially Ember, despite her seemingly partyish style. Yeah, there’s more to Mike, more to Ember, and more to their romance.
The hilarity of a family living extremely close together, small towns and all that entails, will have you feeling quite good, along with a lot of LoL moments. Feeling the love here that runs deep! A gossip line that just runs, Autumn has a bit of a history thats needs to stay just that. Lucky for her, she has volunteers that want to help her out–oh, joy!
I haven’t mentioned Tash very much, except he’s a great father–wasn’t looking for love, but it found him anyway. I usually do prefer reads that have more to the romantic journey, and making both mains stand out, so would’ve liked more on him, and them together.
The writing style infused with all the witticisms had me snort laughing often no matter the scenario, always visible in my mind too.
There are definite serious and troubling aspects here also, some concerning sweet Sadie that will make you just want to cuddle and protect her forever, which is kind of what happened with the whole Somerset family when they got to meet Sadie. She was written beautifully as a precocious 7 year old, with that wonderful wisdom beyond her years and a cutie patootie to boot, she added so much goodness.
Women’s fiction/romance, stand alone, easy read. Lighter side
Autumn and her sister Ember, run an animal sanctuary. Autumn is also an interior decorator and Ember is a builder. They have been burned by men. After being left at the altar, Autumn swears off men until she runs into Tash. Tash is a single father with a seven year old little girl. He has moved back to town and gets Autumn to redecorate his daughter, Sadie’s room. Ember builds a giant play yard in the shape of a pirate ship in order to get Sadie acclimated to her new home. Tash is attracted to Autumn but decides to take it slow after her comment about ice cream being better than a man. Autumn finally realizes Tash is worth giving her ice cream up for.
Such a sweet, romantic story. A new series by Ms. Foster and it will be a hit. A little girl who has seen more than she should in her little life, a dad trying to get his girl to trust him, and a woman who loves them both. Animals, a sister, and an ex.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Usually, it’s Lori Foster’s strong alpha males that capture all of my attention, but in her latest book the hero’s young daughter pulled at my every heartstring. Little Sadie heals the hearts and souls of all of the characters in the Somerset Girls and paves the way for two great love stories.
I read an advanced copy of this book
A Heartwarming novel says it all. I loved this book. I laughed, cried and fanned myself. Both sisters are dealing with emotional baggage and with the help of Tash (hate that name) and Mike they finally overcome what is holding them back. These two sisters are very different but love each other fiercely. The only thing I didn’t like was Tash Ducker’s name, it just so wrong of a name but other than that I loved the book.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
What a easy and hard to put down read! The dynamics between Autumn and Ember showed how sisters can be, annoying but who wants what is best for you. Tash and Mike were perfect partners for the sisters even if it didn’t seem so at first for one of the couples. The relationship that grows between Sadie, Tash’s daughter, and Autumn was heartwarming and developed very easily. Sadie had a difficult few years with her mother, so it was heartening to see her bloom. Ms Foster very rarely fails to deliver and this was no exception. Heartily recommend!
What a wonderful heartwarming story about two sisters Autumn and Ember. They argue, tease, help each other through stuff they each are dealing with, work together to help animals , love each other and have each other’s back.
The story has a love interest for each sister and is well written and is so seamless going from one to the other. Tash and Mike were perfect for Autumn and Ember.
The Chemistry and friendship between Autumn and Tash flowed so well. Added in the mix is Sadie Tash’s daughter she was a sweetheart I enjoyed her so much. Ember and Mike were a hoot dancing around each other.
There were so many great moments in this book, but the scene with Autumn’s mom showing Tash her “fruit” art was hilarious. There was everything to love about this special story and even though I have an ARC I also preordered the book for my Lori Foster book collection. Ms. Foster writes what I love to read. Well done as always.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest review.
The Somerset Girls is another heartwarming read by one of my favorite authors. In this book, it showcases the deep bond that sisters can share but also the ups and downs in the relationship. Having two sisters of my own, I feel I can really relate. But not only is family really prominent in this book but so is romantic relationships. Both sisters find their happily ever after and I loved it all.
Autumn and Ember are completely opposite in personality and their views on romance. When Autumn’s high school crush Tash moves back into town with his little daughter Sadie, it is actually Ember who pushes them together. Autumn would rather just stay home and read. I loved the relationship that developed between these three. As for Ember, on the surface she is seen to be a free spirit and flighty, but she has a painful past. She has been noticing Mike, the hired man at their animal rescue farm for awhile but she is really looking for more than just sex. Mike is seen as this playboy, but we see him as so much more.
As much as I loved the relationship side to this story, I absolutely adored the actual animal rescue farm where all of this takes place. For little Sadie, it is a place where she really shines. And I can’t forget to give a shout out to Pavlov, the six-year old coonhound that loves this family so much! This was definitely another wonderful read.
I received an ARC of The Somerset Girls from Netgalley, and this is my honest review.
4.5 stars
This was a charming read! Family and relationship dynamics are always fascinating to me and I loved seeing the similarities/contrasts with sisters, Ember and Autumn. Mike and Tash, respectively, were perfect romantic matches for Ember and Autumn, although I felt Ember and Mike’s relationship was put in for an easy wrap-up to their ending. It was Tash’s daughter, Sadie, however, who stole my heart and the show! Her innocent love and appreciation of little things warmed the heart and her resiliency in a tough situation-gah! And her obvious love of all the animals at Autumn and Ember’s place was just too adorable for words.
Overall this was a satisfying read! I loved the various relationships and connections and got a kick out of each character’s courtship. But seriously, Sadie and her flock of furry friends are what I’m remembering most because they were just too darned cute and stole any pages they appeared on.
I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley/Harlequin and this is my honest review.
I don’t like to read reviews that tell all about the story. To learn that read the synopsis or download a sample, then if you liked what you read, buy the book. This story has a lot of emotion and brought home many memories of my life.
To me a review is 6 things and I have written my response to each item:
(1) how well it was written, —– great story line, very emotional.
(2) How it flows from introduction to ending, —– was easy to follow the story line and characters.
(3) If it grabs your attention early, so that you cannot put it down, —– definitely did but slowed down some toward the middle, then caught up again and I didn’t want to put it down.
(4) if it has too many or too few romantic areas or is just right, —— for me, perfect. I like a story with a good beginning, a believable story line, with a happy ending and a few romantic areas throughout.
(5) if it has enough mystery or suspense to make you read to the last word plus want more, ———-
I personally would have liked a little more mystery and suspense, but for this story line, it was adequate.
(6) how well it was edited, such as any glaring grammatical errors, —— no comment as it was ARC.
This book was one of the better books of this series and it grabbed my attention quickly. It had enough action and suspense, but for me, I would have liked a little more. The grammar cannot be reviewed as this was an ARC, but I have given my honest opinion of the book. I give it 5* and do recommend this book.
“The Somerset Girls” by Lori Foster is categorized as family life fiction, contemporary romance, AND contemporary women’s fiction or, you could say, a little bit of everything for every type of reader.
Autumn and Ember Somerset run a rescue farm, but each also have their own businesses—Autumn is an interior designer and Ember is a building contractor.
The two share a tight bond and a house divided into separate living quarters.
When Autumn’s high school crush, Tash Ducker, returns to town with his daughter, more than redesigning his home is in store. Her heart is about to be restored as well.
Ember has her own heart that needs mending and Mike, who works on the rescue farm, is the guy to do it.
While there is little to no conflict you’d expect in a romance, “The Somerset Girls” has scenes with Tash’s daughter, Sadie, to make up for it. I’ll admit, Sadie’s scenes were my favorite.
Ms. Foster is on target with giving us the brand of hero she is known for—alpha and protective.
Loved this book. Complex parent child & sister dynamics.
Just a feel-good read.
