A tragic loss. A broken pack. A lone wolf. The pack war was drawing closer, and Ariane found herself at a crossroad amid the chaos that was her life.Which road should she follow? One gave her a chance at normalcy, while the other threw her deeper into turmoil. She had new powers, a shifter for a boyfriend, and blood on her hands. There was also the lone wolf who had been cast out and sought solace … wolf who had been cast out and sought solace with Ari as he fought to return home.
This wasn’t how she thought her life would play out. Nevertheless, a decision had to be made. And in the middle of it was Orion, wondering which road Ari would follow.

Wow, I just could not put this book down… I finished reading The Ash Moon last night and wanted to continue Rion and Ari’s story so I started The Somber Call, which I just had to continue turning the pages to find out what was going to happen…
I am so hooked on this series and can’t wait for The Crucial Shift to be released so I can read it… but I am not happy that I have to wait… I NEED it now…
This book was so much more addictive then book 1, but I did just read both books in a 16 hour window… I was a little annoyed with Ari’s attitude in this book with her feeling towards Rion and Ford. She is all I’m in love with Rion and he means the world to me then she is second guessing her feelings for him, plus she is all Ford I love you like a best friend and nothing more then gets jealous and angry when he is with someone else… I’m mean seriously if Rion means so much to you and you live without him then why do you question your feelings for him… but once Ari, Rion, Wake and Ford have their heart to heart all seems to work out…
This books has some very strong and emotions scenes that will have you crying then it has some very funny and hilarious scenes that will have you laughing so hard your stomach hurts… I especially loved the food fight scene…
Thank you Michelle for writing another phenomenal book and I look forward to what you have in store for Rion and Ari…
Squeeeeeeee!!! Squee! Squeeeeeeeeee!
No, those aren’t mouse squeaks. Those are straight up squeaks of delight, frustration, and righteous indignation. Squeaks of love, happiness, and hope.
This series is going to kick ass while taking names.
The Somber Call is full of feels, angst, and everything a bookworm needs for their happy place. Struggles with relationships, fear of making a negative impsct, and fear of not being enough. Ari struggles with the typical insecurities we all face but in a much grander level.
It is imperative you read this series in order. There is no way to grasp what is happening otherwise. Heed The Somber Call. Realize that nothing will ever be the same and embrace that which you know is right…
Reviewed for Sweet Spot Sisterhood
This is a Fantastic series with Werewolves and Vampires. Ari has new powers and she has a decision to make. A life of more Normalcy, or one that puts her in more turmoil. I Love the way the Author makes the story come to fruition. And the Power that Ari discovers. This read is exciting and has you on the edge of your seat Wondering what’s going to happen next. And a war on the horizon. A definite must read.

4 stars!!!!
So I am a sucker for a book when the meek little heroine becomes a badass . While that seems to be slowly happening in this book . Ariane is now a dream walker and gets more powers from her best friend Ford who can bite her and give her his gifts. These two have an amazing bond that is make her mate Rion extremely jealous . Some people are lost and the war with Travis and his pack is getting closer and closer . O and Wake is suffering and just wants his family back . They learn more about why he did what he did. HE has become a great friend to Ariane. Can she help him get his family back . She learns more and more about her history and who she is to become while her mate bond grows more with Rion. There is also a little love triangle going on . Well Ford loved Ariane more than he should, she does love him but Rion is her forever and always will be . This series has got me hooked.
I’m going to keep my review short and sweet. The Somber Call is the second installment in the Ariane trilogy. It’s a good read and, in my opinion, it will be popular among many young adults. The storyline is interesting and it does have a few highlights that set it apart from the many cookie cutter shifter romances. Ari and Orion are wonderful characters that many readers will fall in live with.
I do think the author has room to grow though. The writing is a bit repetitive and inconsistent. I’m going to try not to give any spoilers away so bare with me. Michelle Dare wrote a lovely storyline as Ari being our kick butt heroine, which is great. The issue I kept running into is her characters evolution could have been written smoother. For every strength Ari gained she would take two steps back. Im referring to the dialogues being repetitive and or immature. I guess I was looking for Ari to gain wisdom along with her physical strength. Again, this is a good book but it needs a little work. I believe Michelle has a gift for writing and that as time goes on the better author she will become. My rating for this book is 3.5 stars.
This is the second book in the series, you must read book one to follow the story. Ari was once a shy girl with two friends. Then she meets Rion which is a shifter wolf.
The war is coming and nobody knows when it will happen. Ford is Ari’s new best friend but he’s a vampire and also in love with Ari. Then there’s Wake which is Rion’s cousin which is also now a friend of Ari’s. She wants Wake to come back home but it had to be a pack decision.
I love how the pack sticks together and protects one another. This is a great tragic love story that’s action packed. Now on to the third book in the series to read more about Ari, Rion, Ford and Wake. A must read!!!
4.5 stars!!
Really loving this series so far!! Be advised that you need to read book 1, Ash Moon first as this one picks up right where that one leaves off. This author really knows how to bring a story & characters to life.
5 Action Packed Stars!!!
Whoah!!! After the way The Ash Moon ended I couldn’t wait to start this book. You should not read this book without reading the first book already.
We pick up right where we left off. This pact war has left the Avynwood pact down one and the Diaminsey pack with a bit of an advantage.
Ari is left feeling miserable and she feels fully responsible for the death. Rion, Wake, Aries and the rest of the pack continue letting her know it wasn’t. Part of being a wolf is to protect your fellow pact members and always always protect the women and children.
Ari and Rion still haven’t fully mated. But, everyday they’re together their bond becomes closer and closer. Rion is ready for it to be complete but will give Ari her space and go at the speed she’s ready to go at.
Ari’s also got an intense connection to her vampire best friend Ford and Rion’s cousin Wake. Rion and Ari can read each other’s minds, have conversations and know what the other is feeling. Ari also has that same connection with Ford. I will say their conversations both out loud and telepathically is legit hilarious.
Ford’s very open with Ari on his feelings for her. He’s not afraid to tell her he loves her. Ari loves Ford and she’s open with it to him. But, she lets him know she loves him as a friend and that her heart belongs to Rion.
If those two beautiful, complicated, alpha men weren’t enough add Wake into the situation. He was first kicked outta Avynwood pack and now he’s been kicked out of the Diaminsey pack which leaves him completely alone. Luckily for him he’s got two people in his corner. Ford and Ari.
Wake wants him family back. His pack back. If he can’t have them back he wants to die. Ari won’t let him kill himself or let anybody else kill him. She’s constantly going against Rion and everybody else.
Ari is still the person everybody says will be the person behind the stop of this pack war. But, these jerk offs from the Diaminsey pack continue going to crazy lengths to get ahead of the Avynwood pack including going after humans and lying to other paranormal communities in order to get allies.
Ari is new into the world of the paranormal and she’s young ok too of it. But, Ari in my opinion is selfish and she’s doing whatever she wants with whoever and making decisions & getting advantages to get ahead in this war. Except she’s not taking Rion’s or Ford’s opinions or feelings into consideration.
But, they’re all on the same page. Stick together, make allies and get rid of the Diaminsey pack once and for all. When I tell you the last sentence of the book made my jaw break from dropping so damn fast and hard that it’s an understatement lol.
I can’t wait to read the last book The Crucial Shift. I’m glad there will be spin off books to this series. Bc, umm I need inside Ford and Wake mind. I just hope in the next book Ari stop thinking of herself. If it wasn’t for Rion, Ford and Wake I’d of liked this less. But, man they’re amazing and make this whole story.
She has a choice to make and this follows her as she makes a choice. One path will lead her to be normal while the other path is more uncertain. There are some who are waiting to see which way she will go. How will she decide? Will it be the right choice? See how she gets on

I love it when a second book is equally as good as the first in the series. The Somber Call, book two in the Ariane Trilogy picks right up where the first book ends and it maintained its intensity all the way through. Ari has gotten deeper and deeper into the paranormal world and she is struggling with all the emotions she is feeling. She is confused by her feelings and connection with Ford. She believes she is in love with Orion, yet he keeps her at arms length to protect her. I really enjoyed the depth and detail that went into this story, the characters are brilliant and I enjoyed the humour a lot. Very well written and the suspense is great.
I don’t think I have the words to express how amazing this book was and is. This series is similar to twilight but better. I cried, laughed, felt their pain and got angry with these characters. This book and the whole series needs to be a movie. I blew through this book in 2 nights and now onto the third. I will be very said when I don’t have these characters in my life. They stay with you and in your heart.
Fantastic read and must read
Ariane is trying to understand her place in the mess surrounding her. How can one teenage girl be involved in something she doesn’t quite understand?
Orion and Ford are both vying for Ari’s attention and both are at her mercy.
This book picks up where The Ash Moon left off and should be read in order. The world built by this author gets even better with this installment and I can’t wait to see where it goes. The build-up had me quickly turning page after page (and completely ignoring everyone and everything around me).
I am enjoying the evolution of these characters and how they’re discovering themselves.
I can’t wait to read the next book and see where this story goes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance and a great YA read.
Squee so excited I was to enter into this one since I read the first one. The emotions in this one runs deep. The drama is escalating with it pulling you into it with no way out. The characters surround us filling us with their perspective and having us feeling them. Decisions are also big in this with it pulling us tight at times waiting. There is a bit of humor too weaved in and out that gives it the full bodied of elements a good book has. This is one place you can escape and get lost in so easy fighting when you have to come out. Looking for ward to the next one.
Ahh This book was just a huge tease, We learned more about Ari and her powers that she has, and new ones that she gains. We are still awaiting this huge pack war that is imminent , and now Orion and his pack have even more reasons to want to take out Travis and his pack. I really liked this second book, it had a lot of more information about this shifter world that this author created. Ari is really being pulled in several different directions. Poor Rion kinda takes a back burner, or gets overlooked, by Ari, which was crazy because that Wolf/Man is all about her all the time.
I am so ready for all these other characters to get their own story, Ford needs his soulmate like yesterday, and Wake, Orion’s cousin, please hook him up quickly, he had me in tears, and chills when he was out making the Call. So Good, Ready for More!
The Somber Call is book 2 in the Ariane Trilogy and what a whirlwind book!
Ari has her hands (or mind) full in this book. Just when she thinks she’s figured out the whole paranormal world it changes and once again, she’s questioning everything she knows about it.
There were so many twist and turns my head was spinning! I’m not a fan of paranormal, but I am a huge fan of Michelle Dare and this story was 5 star worthy, for sure. She pulled out all the stops for this one! I look forward to seeing what happens in book 3!
I love this series! As Ariane learns more about the pack war and herself, you fall more in love with the characters. More is revealed about Ariane’s family and Ford continues to make you love him even more. I can’t wait for final book in the trilogy to find out what happens. Love this series.

This series is getting so good. Ari is thrown for a loop at the end of Book 1 (The Ash Moon) and has to deal. with the aftermath. She finds herself straddling two worlds, trying to make them both work for her. Travis is set on war and Ari is still smack dab in the middle, but now more of her family and friends are now involved and she has a purpose to try to end the Diaminsey pack. As Ari navigates her new world and the men and revelations that come with it, she grows more powerful and more resolute with her feelings for Orion and her role in the pack.
This story is so entertaining and there are so many feels. Be prepared to go on a a journey with this book. I cannot wait to see what happens in the Third book.
Book 2 in this trilogy. This picks up where we ended with more thrilling adventures and more is being revealed. I’m absolutely loving these characters especially Ari who we see grow from the 1st book. Between romance there is strong family and sadness that she battles through. And a revelation is revealed. Can’t wait for the 3rd book.
This book picks up right were book one left off, so you must read book one first. As Ari’s story continues unfolds here life gets no easier. Guilt and hard choices weigh heavily on Ari’s mind as tension grows all around her. The relationship between Ari and Orion continues to deepen and the threat of war looms on the horizon. A very engaging PNR read with an intense story with lots of twists.
