At the end of her third season, Miss Sophia Gifford is firmly on the shelf, and she’s determined to accept her current suitor—a man she likes but cannot love. When her sister decides to throw an impromptu summer house party, Sophia reluctantly agrees to help. What she doesn’t realize is that her sister has plans of her own—plans that would bring a certain childhood friend back into Sophia’s life. … life. It’s been nearly a decade since Sophia has seen Hugh Quinton. He’s grown into a handsome, charming, and successful—yet completely unacceptable—tradesman. Her mother looks down on him, her father detests him, and society would snub him in an instant. Sophia shouldn’t even consider him. But her heart won’t listen to reason, and before long, she finds herself wondering how much she is willing to sacrifice for love.

This was such a fun read, and to have Sophia’s story was icing on the cake to the rest of the series. I really enjoyed this book, and I’m so glad she found her happy beginning.
So far I’ve loved everything I’ve read by this author. This book was great. I loved seeing the characters change and develop throughout the story. It had a happy ever after which I love as well.
Sophie has been through three seasons but has not found a groom. She has two men vying or her attention. Her sister, Pru, has a house party and invites Sophie’s childhood friend, Hugh, whom she has not seen in 10 years. Pru also invites Sophie’s two suitors and other friends. – It is interesting to read about the suitors and how they interact with Sophie and others at the party. Sophie’s mother continues to be awful, but again I liked her a little better at the end of the story. This is a good read.
All her covers are beautiful I could just live in them. I love the familial relationships she always builds so well, they were so invested in her happiness. Rachael Anderson is a great story teller and this one is Super adorable!
This is the 2nd book I have read by this author and this is just as wonderful as the first. This is a story of differing social classes and how that determines who you marry, but the heart doesn’t always agree. The heart wants what it wants and social classes mean nothing.
Sophia is part of a social class that forbids her to marry below her social status. She has been friends with Hugh since she was a young girl. It has been quite a number of years since they have seen each other, but when he is invited to a house party thrown by her sister and her husband, Sophia begins to feel the weight of the decision she has to make as to who she should marry. Her heart wants Hugh, but society forbids it. Can she defy her parents and society and do what feels right? Will she ever find happiness if she doesn’t marry for love? There is history with her family and Hugh’s that isn’t good and positive, either.
This is a clean, romantic story of true love and following one’s heart.
A perfectly lovely blend of subtle humor, tender friendship, and rekindled romance! The theme of sacrifice is strong in the story- Sophia feels the pressure to sacrifice for her family by marrying for money to save the estate her father has squandered, and Hugh sacrifices by coming to the aid of the man who ruined his father and tore him from Sophia just as their friendship was on the verge of becoming more. Loyalty, regrets, social class and society strictures all come into play at the house party, which is an ideal setting for repeated and frequent interactions. I loved everything about Hugh, especially the balance of pride and humility he has with his professional success. It was fun to watch Sophia as she was drawn towards him again, and the way they realized that no matter what anyone else thought or said, they are perfect for each other.
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
great series
This is an all round delightful story. There’s romance, humor, quirky characters, mean characters – much to enjoy. The story is as much a second chance romance as it is an expose on the different class statuses in England at the time.
Romance – PG / kissing
Language – Clean
Violence – one character mistreats a dog
My rating – 5 stars
Great read made me go back to the other two in the series. Characters well drawn. Hight recommend reading from book 1 5o truly appreciate

My Review: 5 Stars
I wish I could live in this cover…and in the pages behind it. I love everything about this cover and I’m so happy that it’s a perfect match for the story within.
House parties are so fascinating to me and I adore that we get glimpses of characters from past books in this story. I have a penchant for protagonists who have imperfections and that’s just what is delivered in this offering.
Sophia is fiercely stalwart in her decisions…and she has red hair, freckles, and hates to wear hats, which leads to sunburns. She’s also quite hilarious in her nicknames for the match her mother is trying to force. Hugh is charming and smart, but isn’t a who’s-who in society, although he makes the best of his situation and has worked hard to get to where he is in life. Although this couple encounters many snags in their interactions at this house party, every moment together is extremely endearing and pleasing.
This book brought smiles to my face and allowed me the most heavenly escape. The Solicitor’s Son is delectable from cover to cover and I’m still standing by my thought that Rachael Anderson is an auto-read author every time.
Content: mild romance
This was such a beautiful story. I enjoyed every bit of it. I really like the way Anderson writes a story. There were some really good moments, but all the way threw the book just was enjoyable. I have loved this whole series and this was such a nice conclusion. The end was so complete! Any author that can write a romance where only one kiss happens at the end but you are feeling all the feels through the book has me as a fan. Enjoyed this sweet proper romance.
This is the third book in a series and while you don’t have to read the books in order, I think it would be helpful to have read the first two as there are characters from the previous books in this book. It was so fun to see the previous characters in this book and to see how close the group of friends is. I loved the interactions between Hugh and Sophie and although it didn’t look hopeful for our two heroes, things turned out well in the end! I would recommend to anyone who enjoys clean romance novels!
A Regency that really stands out from all the rest!
Regency’s seem to be really popular right now, which is great for fans of the genre, but can also be a bit overwhelming trying to decide which to read. I love that Ms. Anderson really takes the time to develop her characters and the writing is always spot on. I know when I grab one of her books I will always get a great story.
I’ve really enjoyed the Serendipity series and have been looking forward to reading Sophia’s story for quite a while now. With her family estate in jeopardy, family pressure, she is left with little choice but to marry. I liked Sophia, she was easy to root for, she came across as believable and relatable. I also really enjoyed Hugh’s character, we get some of his POV (I wouldn’t have minded more) and their interactions are always full of emotion and draws you in. I love a good forbidden love story and these two by society’s standards shouldn’t even be friends! I loved their friendship and felt that connection between them early on. It was fun to see how their story unfolds. We also get to catch up with characters from the previous books which is always nice.
Overall, a very pleasant, sweet regency. I enjoyed the summer house party aspect and being away from the busy London season. Fun setting, good characters and well written. Would recommend to any regency fan.
