“Clever, Thrilling, Totally Engaging! C.G. Abbot has penned a most thrilling journey…engaging, intense, oddly contemporary with just the right amount of the paranormal.” King’s River Life Magazine

I haven’t read a book by this author until now. I hope to read more after reading this one. Starting out a little slow, this book doesn’t take long to really get going. The author tells the story from multiple points of view, but I wasn’t confused because the character whose turn it is, is listed at the beginning of the chapter. While this book has a little more description than I like, the description did do a great job of painting a web of deception in so many places, you can’t help but feel paranoid. This book was a wonderful mystery from start to finish, and the end was the piece de resistance. I hope to see more books, and I do really recommend this book. I was provided a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Conspiracy, corruption, secret society and a woman with a gift. Elizabeth has a special gift but she thinks she’s going crazy. When a woman shows up in the middle of the night to warn her that she is in danger. The General is the head of a group who wants to take over the United States by infiltrating the government and other agencies. The scary thing about it is this could be happening in real life. There are things going on that are in the headlines right now. Racism and prejudice play a large part in this book. Overall this is a great thriller.
“The Society” earns 5+/5 Secret Subversions…Clever, Thrilling, Totally Engaging!
Seven years ago Elizabeth’s best friend Loralie went missing, and she dismissed that the very first vision of her beaten and bloodied friend was an illustration of her death; she’d hoped her friend had just run away. But, being back home, the vision of her friend has returned and a stranger has appeared with her own vision of Loralie…she’s dead and Elizabeth is in grave danger. She is under surveillance, closely watched since her friend’s first disappeared. Loralie became privy to information desperately important that cost her life, and puts our nation in jeopardy. “It’s important you don’t trust just anyone,” she is warned. There’s the General of The Society for a Restored America, Sheriff Jake Craig, convict Rance Hunter, freelance reporter Juanita Alvarez, and FBI Malcom Alexander, someone Loralie said could be trusted. The Society’s plan has been put into action with infiltrations in law enforcement, the government, and…the White House? Elizabeth undertakes a dangerous journey, and everything we hold dear is in jeopardy. Is it too late to stop it?
It isn’t the destination, they say, it’s the journey, and C.G. Abbot has penned a most thrilling journey…engaging, intense, oddly contemporary with just the right amount of the paranormal. Elizabeth’s sixth sense ability isn’t juvenile hocus-pocus, but treated with seamless realism. Abbot employs a third-person narrative, and although it isn’t my favorite, it is perfect to put readers on the outside “watching” the drama unfold. Although there are a lot of chapters, they is easy to read, concise, full of vivid description, and highlighting one of the characters, their thoughts, feelings, and their part in the intricate drama. Readers learn many of the answers…who, what, and why. We know, they don’t which intensifies the dramatic sense to a nail-biting conclusion. I was so engaged I even yelled at the book a couple of times. “Watch out!” “No…don’t trust him!” The underlying theme of an organization infiltrating all levels of society and orchestrating a secret coup has some interesting parallels with history as well as current events. We read in history of movements taking over a country under one unifying idea of them vs us, and today we see several fringe groups rising center stage in American politics. This thriller paints that dark realization, but provides the “silver lining” of perseverance and heroes. I was not an avid thriller fan until now. This is one that cannot be missed! I highly recommend this book!
This first book in the Elizabeth Grant Thrillers series by CG Abbot was definitely an intense paranormal thriller for sure. First, Elizabeth can see the ghost of dead people, a “gift” she has been trying to deny her whole life after a series of visits to psychologists, thanks to her family’s misunderstanding of her abilities. Second, her best friend Loralie who was like a sister, was missing and presumed dead. Third, there is a plot by a massive White Supremacist organized society to take over the US. Fourth, it seems like everyone wants her dead. Inside of all of this, the author manages to stuff in a little romance, a lot of danger and mayhem, as well as quite a few twists and turns surprises for the reader. The main characters, Malcolm, Juanita, Heath, Hunter, and the Sheriff, are easy to imagine by the reader as they are described in a fair amount of detail, both physically and through their actions. The author also spends quite a bit of time describing in detail the surroundings and buildings so the reader can see where the events are happening. As the author mentions in the notes at the end of the book, this idea of White Supremacists taking over the country is not new, but it is still a frightening idea to me. I look forward to reading about the further adventures of Elizabeth. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Hidden Gems Books.

It’s called The Society … and the have an agenda. They have placed their own people into the highest branches of law enforcement .. the FBI … reporters … and maybe even the White House.
How she stop this? Who can she trust?
This is action – packed with intrigue, twists and turns, a bit of a paranormal touch. The plot is a good one, filled with deftly drawn characters. There are lot of suspects, all who may or may not be who they claim to be. The Society’s agenda is just plain evil.
