For most women, working for a sexy soccer star would be a dream come true. All except single mom Felicity Shaw. She has no interest in playing personal assistant for a stubborn, injured playboy–no matter how nice his abs are. But with bills piling up and mouths to feed, she can’t say no to the job. That’s when it gets interesting. The last thing Scott Gillie wants or needs is a persistent and … is a persistent and entirely too distracting PA while he’s recuperating in his small hometown. Unfortunately, it’s not up to him. Then Felicity and her son end up temporarily moving in–all thanks to his meddlesome grandmother. Now temptation is right across the hall and it’s driving Scott crazy.
His only option is to fight fire with fire.
He never expects Felicity to do the same.

Grandma Steals the Show!
This book is so cute! We have an injured professional soccer player holed up at his sassy grandmother’s home for rehab, a single mother in desperate need of a job, and an agent who doesn’t take no for an answer.
Enter- fun!
When Felicity Shaw agrees to a temporary position as soccer player Scott Gillie’s PA, she doesn’t care if he’s a big old grump- as long as she gets paid. After losing her rental home thanks to a fire next door, she needs the money to give her young son the home he deserves.
When Scott’s eccentric grandmother offers them a room- across from Scott’s- Felicity gratefully accepts. After all, it’s only temporary. It shouldn’t be hard to ignore the man’s athletic physique and sexy smile, right?
Scott’s main focus is recovering from the injury to his knee and getting back to his team before the playoffs- nothing else matters. Then Grandma meddles by inviting his unwanted personal assistant and her son to stay with them. Just what he doesn’t need. She’s way too distracting and her son reminds him of himself at that age.
They need to go. Maybe if he makes her life miserable, it’ll happen. Funny how best laid plans can go awry.
Grandma is a hoot! I loved her sass. She raised Scott after his mother’s death and likes to pick on him for just about everything, lol.
Here’s a couple of my favorite passages:
So, what do I have to do for Hero Day?”
“Just talk about your job and how cool it is and stuff.”
Now Edna did roll her eyes. “Scott doesn’t have a job. He just plays with balls all day.”
“Thank you, Grandma. I’ll make sure to say it exactly like that when I go speak to Tyler’s class.”
THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM- KYRA JACOBS
when you focus too much on one thing.” Edna tipped her head to one side. “It’s like…loving steak. And you want to eat steak all the time, so you do. But you’re missing out on all the other nutrients your body needs to grow and thrive. And then one day, you realize you’ve been missing out, but it’s too late.”
“So…all the other food is gone?”
“No, but you’ve got kidney stones and liver spots and dentures, because Lord knows half your teeth have been knocked out by now. So you end up in some nursing home assuming the fetal position, waiting for those damn stones to pass.
THE SOCCER PLAYER AND THE SINGLE MOM- KYRA JACOBS
I give The Soccer Player and the Single Mom 5 lovely kisses- You’ll read this with a smile
A light-hearted, sweet romance between an injured soccer player and a single mom struggling to make ends meet. If you like romances where the heroine is tough but loving, and the hero stubborn but capable of recognizing a good thing when he finds it, this is the book for you. A great read that leaves you with a smile.
Very sweet-funny at times.
When a single mom looses her job and needs another one quickly she becomes a PA for an injured soccer player and end up moving into his grandmothers house.
Will his return to soccer end their relationship or will he decide she and her Don are more important?
Great story. Recommend
It is a twist of fate that single mom Felicity Shaw loses her job unexpected and ends up getting a job within minutes. She is not sure that Soccer star Scott Gillie really wants her help as his personal assistant as he recuperates from an injury, but her current predicament makes this job a a must have for the time being. She doesn’t plan on falling for Scott though and when the feeling are shared she doesn’t know what to do. Throw in Scott’s Grandmother who makes it known she wants him to settle down and you have an entertaining read.
This was fun, the story starts and you get pulled in right away. I thought Tyler, Felicity’s son was spot on for his age and they way he added to the story was endearing. This is a wonderful read to pick up on a cold day with a blanket and enjoy, especially with soccer season heading to the playoffs soon.
I just could not get into this book. I had to put it down and come back several times to be able to get through it. The writing wasn’t horrible, but it didn’t hold my attention. The characters were okay, but I didn’t really feel a connection to them. There isn’t any “heat” to this book either. Unless the book is so well written that I don’t miss it, that’s a must for me. They do get their HEA, so that’s something. Even though I didn’t enjoy this one, I would give this author another try.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
I loved reading this book. I feel in love with the characters from the beginning. It’s an easy to read, love story in which you find yourself pulling for the characters to get together. If you’re looking for a light hearty, funny read, this is it.
I had to give this one a read because it’s a sports romance and a single parent romance. Two of my favorites in one book, yes please! Scott won’t know what hit him when it comes to Felicity and her son. I just loved all the characters in this book including Scott’s grandma and her dog. Scott’s grandma adds so much humor to this book. She’s had me laughing quite often. I loved the interaction between Scott and Felicity’s son. Then I loved watching Felicity give Scott as he dishes out. I think he has met his match. This book has a nice flow that had me gobbling up the book. It’s one you shouldn’t pass up on!
Such a sweet romance!
There’s a string of pretty big coincidences that bring Scott and Felicity into the same circles, but once they are they’re darn cute together. Scott’s grandmother is a hoot, and Felicity’s son Tyler is adorable–together with the hero and heroine they make this a fun story to read. The would-be steamier scenes are fade to black, though there are some toe-curling kisses on the page. Scott grows up nicely during the course of the story, finally realizing that there is more to life than soccer, as his grandmother’s been trying to tell him, just in time for a very satisfying HEA.
I’d definitely pick up another book by Ms. Jacobs in the future!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was a first time read by Kyra Jacobs and I found this read to not be like my other reads. There were just a lot of things that fell flat for me that kept me from truly enjoying Scott and Felicity’s story. I didn’t hate it, but didn’t exactly love it.
The blurb really sucked me pairing two different tropes that I generally love; sports romance and single parent. I love it when kids are incorporated to the story, not all authors can pull it off so well, but I found Tyler to be absolutely adorable and lovable. Honestly, the side characters were the ones that I loved the most aka Scott’s grandma and Tyler.
I think it was the storyline and lack of chemistry between Scott and Felicity that had me not enjoying this one so much. I just couldn’t feel it all and I really wanted to. Maybe it’s just me, but there wasn’t any intimate scenes, we know it happens and there’s no fade out. Just a clue in that they did it and then it’s the next day. I like my romance with all the intimate scenes, however, I know many out there prefer their romances reads this way. So that will definitely appeal to readers who don’t like to read about all of that.
As for the plot, I just wanted a bit more. Scott his struggling with being off the field and recovering from his injury. And with Felicity being the persistent personal assistant, that’s kind of all it was.
The Soccer Play and the Single Mother is a light-hearted read with little drama that many will enjoy. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the one for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC from NetGalley.
Loved this sweet romantic read. I fell in love with these characters immediately. First there is single mom Felicity Shaw and her adorable son Tyler. Felicity has had a string of bad luck lately and needs to find a job desperately. Then there is Scott Gillie. Professional soccer player sidelined by an injury and hating it. He just wants to get back in the game not be taken care of by a pushy personal assistant. Scott’s agent hires Felicity for that job with a salary that makes it impossible to turn down. Let the games begin!
This is a fun, lighthearted, quick read that I think everyone will enjoy. I definitely recommend it.
This book will pull at your heart from the beginning to end, emotional overload. Felicity seems to have the darkest cloud hanging over her head. Her husband has passed away and she is raising her 5 year old son by herself. If things couldn’t get any worse, she sees on the news her company is being shut down.
A chance encounter with Scott Gillie, and his agent JB, in the doctor’s office, may just be the break she needs. JB, sees there is potential in Felicity and offers her a position as Scott’s Personal Assistant, unbeknown to him. It is always nice to read a story about a woman or man who just can’t seem to catch a break and then when they least expect it, something or someone positive comes along and you begin to see a brighter side of life. Kyra Jacobs has written a great love story, although they both have experienced death, they have goals that totally align with each other, and there is still hope they can be together.
Felicity and Scott’s love story in The Soccer Player and the Single Mom by Kyra Jacobs was truly a fun and enjoyable read. While at the pediatrician’s single mom Felicity Shaw steps in for a missing receptionist while seeing on the news that the company she worked shut their doors without a single notice. Soccer player Scott Gillie is visiting his friend and former teammate hoping for reprieve from his manager, his grandmother, and the okay on his injured knee to return to the sport he loved. Scott’s manager wants to hire a PA for him which Scott wants no part in, while he’s recuperating at his grandmother’s in his small hometown. Felicity’s take charge and organized personality catches the eye of the manager, hiring her on the spot and offering three times what she was making. She is not interested, especially for a stubborn injured playboy but with bills piling up, no other available jobs in the area, and mouths to feed, she really can’t say no to the job. When a fire condemns Felicity apartment, Scott’s grandmother suggests she and her son temporarily move in with them, but Scott is going nuts with the temptation she offers, especially now that she is across the hall. As Scott plots and plans to force Felicity to quits he is surprised to learn that Felicity will fight fire with fire; karma is such a payback. As Scott and Felicity get to know one another they finally become friends and then lovers. Scott has goals he believes he must reach before settling down with a wife and family; until he returns to the game and sees all he is missing.
Ms. Jacobs wrote a wonderful, sexy and emotional story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with sexual chemistry, amusing banter, and endearing characters giving Scott and Felicity a chance at love and a future neither expected to make them happy. Side note: this reviewer once live in Indiana, the location for this story, and it brought back many memories. I highly recommend The Soccer Player and the Single Mom to other readers.

RATING 4.5 STARS
The Soccer Player and the Single Mom is a stand alone sweet romance by Kyra Jacobs. I have read Kyra’s Paranormal series and even though she has several published contemporary romances, I haven’t read any of them yet. I don’t know why because I love her writing style. She has such a way of drawing in the reader and making us fall in love with her characters. Which is exactly what I did with this book!
Scott Gillie is a twenty eight year old professional soccer player. Scott’s life revolves around soccer. That’s the way it’s always been and that’s the way he wants it. But his life is suddenly put on pause when he is forced to take time off while an injured knee heals. Scott finds himself rehabbing at his childhood home, his grandmother’s house, in Quail Hollow, Indiana. All he wants is to get back to work doing what he loves. But that can’t happen until the doctor releases him. In the mean time, his manager decides he needs a personal assistant. That is the last thing Scott wants. Someone getting on his nerves every single day, especially the beautiful single mom his manager chooses for the job.
Felicity Shaw is a single mom to her six year old son, Tyler, who is adorable by the way. Felicity is doing everything she can to keep their heads above water. But lately, fate seems to be against her and is dealing her one blow after another. When Scott’s manager offers her the job as Scott’s personal assistant, she doesn’t want to take the job. She has no idea how to be a personal assistant. Plus, Scott is just a little bit too good looking for her own good! But she needs the money. Then fate deals her another blow and she finds herself moving in to Scott’s grandmother’s house, with her bedroom door right across the hall from Mr. Sexy Soccer Player. This is not good at all. But she has no choice. She needs a place to stay and she needs this job.
Scott doesn’t want a PA and Felicity doesn’t want to lose the job, so let the games begin. As these two get to know each other, and Scott sees what kind of a woman Felicity is, he suddenly realizes he doesn’t want to run her off anymore. Just the opposite. He wants her to stay.
But Scott’s life isn’t here in Quail Hollow anymore. As soon as he gets released by the Dr., he’s leaving. It’s what he has to do. Can he and Felicity enjoy a little fling, just enjoy the time they do have together with no attachments, until he leaves? Or is his heart already getting involved?
I enjoyed this so much. I loved the relationship between Felicity and her son. And I loved watching the relationship build between Scott and little Tyler, and also between Scott and Felicity. Try as they did to keep their hearts out of things, it became impossible the longer they were together. And I have to mention Scott’s grandmother, Edna. I loved her. She was quirky and fun and just what Felicity and Tyler needed. She was also much wiser than she let on.
This really was such a sweet, wonderful romance that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Kyra is such a fabulous author and I can’t wait to see what she is going to do next!
I’ve read a few of Kyra Jacobs books now and they’ve been a fun read. So I looked forward to reading The Soccer Player and the Single Mom. Felicity is a single mum struggling to make ends meet, she loses her job after the factory she worked in closed. And when she gets the chance of a job (a chance meeting in the doctor’s) she jumps at the chance, (well the agent for the soccer player makes her an offer she can’t really turn down) Scott needs to get back on track, before his career ends forever, convalescing at his grandmother’s home he has to put up with a bossy female and her son. He has a few issues that he needs to work through. His past makes him wary, but there is something about Felicity that makes him stop and think. Felicity is a no nonsense woman, and at first she really isn’t interested in Scott’s attempts at seduction. She knows he is only passing the time away before he leaves this small town. The attraction between Felicity and Scott was fun to read. The to and fro between them was funny. Add a few misunderstandings made for an interesting read. And the meddling from Edna and Tyler (his grandmother and Felicity’s son) was really cute. Will he stay in this small town? Or will he get fit and move on ? Will Felicity fall for his patter or keep her heart under lock and key?
Kyra Jacobs is a new author to me but that is about to change after reading the very entertaining The Soccer Player and the Single Mom because I loved getting to know the sassy mum and the very grumpy player.
Scott Gillie is a professional soccer player who is trying to get over an injury, he has come home to his grandma’s to recuperate and hopefully return to the game he loves. Scott’s agent believes the only quick way back is to employ a PA to take care of mundane issues so he can rest his knee but Scott is adamant he wants no help from Felicity.
Felicity has recently lost a job she was relying on to set her and her son Tyler up in a new condo she has just signed the lease on so when the opportunity of a job with Scott comes up she jumps on it and is even prepared to put up with the grumpy soccer player if it means she gets the start she needs for her and Tyler.
Two people in close proximity leads to lots of feelings and emotions but this couple both have a lot of baggage they need to put behind them before they can move on. I loved the characters in this book the banter is funny and the one liners Tyler has are perfection. The chemistry was sizzling and Scott and Tyler’s relationship was everything you would want for your own child. This book captivated me and I really didn’t want it to end and what can I say about the epilogue apart from it was the perfect ending to a great read. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Chock full of wonderful characters. Scott and Felicity get off on the wrong foot and extend into a battle of wills. They realize that making nice yields way better results. There is Edna the lively Grandma who keeps Scott in line with her sharp wit. Tyler is an adorable and sweet boy and Bruno is the spoiled pet dog. All together they keep you chuckling at their antics as you read.
I have never read this author before however I have to say this story was very good. It was a slow build but I enjoyed reading about the characters and the storyline was interesting. I wouldn’t hesitate to read more from this author in the future.
I had not read this author before and when someone suggested the book , I decided to give it a try.
I am so glad I did. The story of Single mom Felicity Shaw, and famous soccer player Scott Gillie was sweet, touching , at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming.
Two individuals that have had their share of losses, insecurities and whose future whether separately or together, is full of uncertainties.
They blossomed together but when Scott is due to return to the game after an injured had sidelined him, will he leave everyone behind or will he find a new future?
The secondary characters in Edna, Scott’s grandmother, and Felicity’s son Tyler, were great addition to the story.
I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
