Inspector Harry Hole tracks a Norwegian serial killer in this installment of Jo Nesbø’s New York Times bestselling series. One night, after the first snowfall of the year, a boy named Jonas wakes up and discovers that his mother has disappeared. Only one trace of her remains: a pink scarf, his Christmas gift to her, now worn by the snowman that inexplicably appeared in their yard earlier that … their yard earlier that day. Inspector Harry Hole suspects a link between the missing woman and a suspicious letter he’s received. The case deepens when a pattern emerges: over the past decade, eleven women have vanished—all on the day of the first snow. But this is a killer who makes his own rules . . . and he’ll break his pattern just to keep the game interesting, as he draws Harry ever closer into his twisted web. With brilliantly realized characters and hair-raising suspense, international bestselling author Jo Nesbø presents his most chilling case yet—one that will test Harry Hole to the very limits of his sanity.

I found this book very confusing, and I read a lot of crime fiction and true crime. I only recommend it for fans of Jo Nesbo. It put me off Scandinavian crime writers as a whole.
One must read the whole series of Harry Hole novels to get the fullest picture of the protagonist and Harry Hole is one hell of a protagonist! Read them all and hope for a new one.
Love Jo Nesbo
I love this Scandinavian noir author.
This book is a little dark but very, very good. I was surprised at then ending and couldn’t put the book down until I was finished. Great read!
Jo Nesbo is brilliant. His stories are gripping, original, dark and twisted, and compelling.
Jo Nesbo’s characters are intense and mesmerising. Harry Hole is an addictive individual. Somewhat self destructive but you cannot stop cheering for him because he cares about the important things.
I loved all of Jo Nesbo’s Harry Hole books. Scandinavia noir at its best.
It was kind of creepy, but certainly kept my interest.
Saw the movie
Nesbit is great at drawing you into the psychology of the hero.
Very intriguing and captivating!
One of Jo Nesbo’s best.
Another Detective Harry Hole book that kept my interest. As all Nesbo story lines, the narrative was somewhat confusing at first. Stick with it! You’ll love it as much as I did. I read the book before I saw the movie. Book was better, but aren’t they all?
I love Harry Hole! Own them all and can’t wait for the next one. Love the way Nesbo uses Oslo as a living breathing character. Harry is perfectly flawed and you can’t help fall in love with him.
Nesbo is an amazing author. Each of his books makes me want to read another.
Way better than the movie
Great mystery and thriller! Loved this book!
Harry Hole tracks a murderer through the twists and turns of this novel. It is well worth the effort to follow Harry’s thought process. Jo Nesbø is a great writer who puts much into his work.
This is the kind of book that keeps you up all night
