Good, old-fashioned horror at its best! A captivating, suspenseful and twisted delight!
The apocalypse, the supernatural, and monsters? Can one actually mix all this chaos? Why not! Honestly, I couldn’t ask for more. Loved every second of this book. Definitely my ideal read.
Grady Miller and his buddies think they’re going to have a getaway weekend at the Prism Lake. A monster of a snowstorm cuts them off from all contact from the outside world. After a series of paranormal occurrences, it becomes apparent that the storm is not normal. Something horrible has happened to the world. While facing real-life monsters, Grady must push on while dealing with his own personal demons.
The Snow is packed with all the spooks, action, and realistic characters. Loved Grady and his good friends. The dialogue exchange between the guys really moved the story along nicely. Just a couple of guys hanging out, talking about life, joking around. Ah, I loved those moments and got way too attached to them.
The story concept might be a stretch for some, but to me, this was horror fiction at its best. It takes some of your deepest fears, throws them into a pot, and gives it a good shake. I’m not too big on series either, but this is a series I’m eager to finish.
Favorite quote:
“Things went south more often than they went north. Maybe you don’t agree, but I’ll tell you my personal observation. Things aren’t easy, we just get stronger. And when we get stronger, things only seem easier.”
Good story!
While I love a good thriller, this one fell a little flat for me. It was almost there but the suspense didn’t grab me.
I was really getting into this storyline and the the book ended.
This very short book is really the prologue to a larger story rather than a complete in itself novel. Three friends go to a lake for the July 4th holiday and are shocked to discover they are snowed in over the night. Electricity goes out, cable goes down, cell phone coverage is lost as it appears the rest of the country and the entire world is also buried in snow.
But that’s not the worst of it, because something unworldy is out there in the snow that brings out the worst in individuals it encounters and brings their deepest fears to life.
The setting isn’t bad, but the story barely gets started in this book. Many series advance their tales in complete chapters, but this simply isn’t one of them. While lots of questions are raised (like what the heck is happening?) no answers are generated over the course of the book and there is no sense of any progress being made by the heroes. I don’t understand why this book was published in this form—especially when it is so short. I haven’t read the sequel, but I would guess that this book should have been combined with it.
That being said, it’s a good start. The characters are engaging, their situation is dangerous, and the mystery of what is happening
I really liked this book. What a cool concept for a story line! Kept me turning the page.
