I write a lot of second-chance romance, so not coincidentally, I also love to read about two characters reigniting first love. But I also need suspense and mystery, and this book combines all these elements into a great beach-read that transports you to a small town with plenty of dark secrets.
Loved it
Intrigue, love, suspense, sadness, heartbreak, action, betrayal…..what did this book not have? Unicorns and rainbows maybe. This book was phenomenal. The characters were fantastic, the setting perfect. White has yet to deliver a mediocre book in which I haven’t found myself enraptured in the story and the characters. Jeb made this story!
My heart broke for him over and over again. I was not ready for this book to be over! I really don’t want to give anything away so I’ll leave it at this. Read This book!! It will not disappoint!
I loved this book. It;s a little bit mystery and a little bit love story. Newly exonerated ex-con Jeb Cullen is determined to prove his innocence to his former neighbors and win back the heart of Rachel Salonen, the only woman he’s ever loved.
I couldn’t help rooting for Jeb to both find out who really committed the crime he was accused of and winning back the heart of his love, whose testimony helped put him behind bars in the first place.
A man wrongly accused of a heinous crime, trying to clear his name and win the love of the woman who helped put him behind bars. That’s a tough one, and the whole allure of the book. As I began reading, I couldn’t wait for Jeb and Rachel to meet again, couldn’t wait for the rest of the town to find out he was back, couldn’t wait to see who actually committed the crimes Jeb was accused of.
Add that to likeable primary and secondary characters, and you basically have a story that keeps a reader (me) on her toes wanting more.
The only thing I didn’t particularly care for was the switch between first person POV for Rachel and third person POV for all other characters. My preference would have been one either first person all through or third person all through.
That said, I think Loreth Anne White’s writing flows well, which makes the switch in POVs smoother than a less experienced author would have managed.
I look forward to reading more Snowy Creek novels.
An intricate maze that starts with a single person accused of a heinous crime at the beginning of this mystery but soon branches off into a labyrinth of directions that wind down to the center of the truth leaving a wake of collateral damage.
Nine years ago Jeb Cullen was convicted of crime he didn’t commit. A multitude of people testified against him including his best friend who was also the only woman he has ever loved.
When Jed gets released early based on some discrepancies brought to light he vows to return to Snowy Creek and prove his innocence even knowing he is going to get strong opposition from everyone in the small town most of all from all of those that testified against him.
Rachel Salonen thought she and Jed would be together forever until he was arrested for the murder of one girl and the brutal rape of another. Rachel’s testimony about what happened that night and about something dark from his past helped put in him jail. Since then she has moved on and is engaged but when her sister and her husband are killed she is suddenly made guardian of there 9 year adopted daughter and her life takes a different turn.
The author gives us some clues right away as to who some characters are and how they came to be and for the rest little by little she unravels a intricate web with a large cast of characters and many POV’s until all points intersect at the end with insidious effects.
The intricate plot kept me turning to pages and wanting to see how all of these lives that were affected by one night nine years ago were going to collide and what the outcome would be.
