Two strong-willed sleuths team up to solve a mystery. Can they work together, or will their differences pull them apart?Librarian Nancy Daley loves a good mystery and enjoys moonlighting as a consultant for the sheriff’s department. When license plates go missing in Tipton County, she’s on the case. This time things are different—she’s been partnered with the new deputy, and he’s not interested … interested in her help. To make matters worse, she’s angered the wrong person and is now being threatened.
Sheriff Deputy Carter Malone expects Tipton, Oregon to be a sleepy small-town, but he miscalculated. He’d come to town for a fresh start with his nephew—one without the issues big cities deal with. Had he made a mistake? To complicate matters, he’s told he must consult with the sheriff’s daughter, who is not in law enforcement. When the minor case they are working morphs into something more, things quickly go from harmless to scary.
Can they solve the mystery before it’s too late, and more importantly, what will they do about their growing attraction?

Steven King said, “Good books don’t give up their secrets all at once.” By that measure Kimberly Rose Johnson new book, The Sleuth’s Miscalculation is a good book, a very good book. It is full of interesting characters caught up in a puzzle that will keep you guessing until the surprise ending. This is a playful, somewhat mischievous mystery that defines summer reading.
Lovely mystery
Nancy is a librarian and she helps her father – the sheriff by consulting during any crime. One of the new deputies – Carter, is not happy with this arrangement. This leads to a series of events as Nancy and Carter team up to solve the town’s problems.
The quirky characters and their interactions and how they solve the mystery with all their bumbling deductions, forms the mystery. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this librarian/cop mystery romance. There was some danger and mystery, small town feel, family and moving on from the past. There were great characters with a lot of facets covered in this storyline.
All of Johnson’s books are fun and entertaining. I love being able to escape into a pretend world that I can call my own for a few days. Love it.
The Sleuth’s Miscalculation by Kimberly Rose Johnson
Nancy first met Carter when she broke into her friend Gloria’s house by breaking the back window on the door — a result of Gloria’s pleas, of course. Why else would someone do something like that? Due to the fact that Carter was the new deputy in town, that meeting didn’t exactly go well. . .
The Sleuth’s Miscalculation probably falls under the category of “cozy mystery”. I appreciate that there was no murder, no gore, and no violence. Yet the mystery was compelling and as more information became available, it was obvious that it was more complex than anyone had originally anticipated.
Some elements of the story were hinted at but not really developed more. I would have enjoyed reading more about the balloon creations and how Carter got involved in making them as a child. I also thought that the issues surrounding the lie were a little bit vague.

Kimberly Rose Johnson always has a way of immersing the reader in her stories. The Sleuth’s Miscalculations its no exception. The characters were lively and quirky. Her small town atmosphere was definitely small town with the gossip tree and eccentric ways. I love how the characters interact with one another. They are wary of newcomers but once they meet them they continue about as if nothing is amiss.
Nancy is the librarian but she is also the sheriff’s daughter. Consulting with the police is a part of who she is. When new deputy Carter questions the validity of this idea, Nancy takes offense. Seeing these two work together was fun. However, will work turn into more? Will Carter accept Nancy for who she is? And can they find the person responsible for the thefts before someone gets hurt? You will have to read the story to find out. Will their miscalculations finally give them the right answer?
