I just discovered a new author I think I’m about to stalk on social media LOL. I had no idea that Amazon have an ‘Amazon Original Stories’ series of short stories and novellas, by different authors until my publisher told me about it. Then, while searching for new books to read on Kindle Unlimited this book popped up from the series. I thought why not? It’s a sign give it a read. I’m so glad I did give it a try. All books can be read in less than an hour, forty- sixty pages! I love them ‘bite sized reads’ sometimes.
This story is book #2 of seven in the Amazon Original short story series, as I started to read I was really pulled in straight away by the story. The main character who is on the run, under her best friend’s ID really intrigued me. I must admit I had no idea where it was going or how it would end which I loved, it kept me reading. The story is mainly set over a period of probably twenty- four hours if that, with some flash back, and at the motel she heads to. I enjoyed the writing style and story-telling, it’s pretty fast paced, which I enjoyed also. It kept me turning pages, guessing, but at times also wondering ‘where’s the bang.’ It came right at the end LOL, in a true ‘oh my gosh I never saw that coming style’, the author gives a very unexpected twist, that left me thinking deeply about what I had just read, and placing everything all together in my head. Overall, this is a short story that I thought was engaging, well written, and very gripping to read. The ending was for me the icing on the cake.
I would have loved more to this! I recommend it to all those who love thriller, mystery, suspense, and even paranormal stories. If you like quick reads too, this is a good choice. I feel that Sleep Tight Motel was an excellent introduction to this author’s work, and I have downloaded more of her books, and about to read the other six authors in the series. Overall I recommend Amazon Original Stories to check out if you like quick, short reads, mystery, thriller, and suspense. Free to read on Kindle Unlimited too at the time of this review.
That was an hour of my life I’ll never get back. It’s unfortunate that people with obvious writing skills lack the creative fortitude to create something that hasn’t been told in thousands of different stories.
The problem with junk stories like this is people read them thinking that somehow, it’s always going to be new. It forces me to imagine someone vomiting on the bathroom floor of a filthy tavern, then kneeling down to lick it up. Surely we all know what the definition of insanity is, right?
In case you’re wondering, this is something you might see on the Disney channel as an after-school special, Halloween edition. In the end, it doesn’t matter if you can whip out decent prose and syntax, which is the only reason I gave it an extra star on the rating. Story really does matter! If you can’t create something original, then leave it alone.
A remote motel. A woman on the run. A friendly landlord. A noise through the wall. A reckoning coming.
A short story that manages to be both warm and creepy.
This is a short story. It only took about an hour and a half to listen to it. The narrator, at first, kind of lulled me, (so don’t start this if you are sleepy. Haha), but then I got it and she was perfect. I enjoyed the story. The author made excellent use of descriptive writing. Listening to it, I could bring it alive in my mind. I wish I had listened to it at Halloween when I love creepy stories so much.
I was lucky enough to have gotten a free audio book code from the author. I am volunteering to leave this review. Fantastic audio book plenty of twist and turns. Short and scary.
On the run from both the police and an abusive lover, a woman checks into a motel where things aren’t quite right.
The writing is great in this one, Eve’s thoughts on her situation, her bad relationship, and the mystery around her are all interesting and thought out.
Everything’s described well, the motel and its surrounding are fleshed out, and feel real. Its emptiness, animal wood carvings, and the fog about give it that creepy horror setting. Oh, and of course, a woman’s voice screaming in the night …
There are two stories here, with her hiding out in the motel, and what happened before she arrived there. The pace quickens in the end with the jumping back and forth between stories and gives a bit of welcome suspense with not her knowing what is real, and the truth being revealed to her.
If you’ve read/watched enough horror, you’ll know whats going on immediately, but it’s unlikely you’ll care cause it’s done so well.
I loved this book. It’s a great short story that’s hard to put down. Just the right amount of tension. You know something is not right in this woman’s journey and need to get to the end to find out what’s going on.
Creepy! Clever! This was like Psycho with a twist – or Psycho meets the Twilight Zone! Had to listen to the last part twice. Great short story and the listen feature makes it even more atmospheric.
Great short read. Love the writing and eery setting.
