I love a period piece of any kind but The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham , was especially good. Any mystery story is a good mystery but this one really had my mind in a tangle. It seems a little slow at first, and I wasn’t quite sure it was a mystery. Trust me what I perceived as a slow-moving story was the authors skillful craft of laying the foundation for everything that follows. Foundation is key, and it almost slipped my mind once I got into the story and believe me you get in deep. Many moving parts to this story and it was greatly entertaining. The most pleasant part was the many surprises. This is a tale that is well worth your time. I can’t think of enough good things to say about this one without sounding like I am gushing.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham is a historical mystery. I loved reading this book and it pulled me in from the first page and I could not put it down until the very last page. The main character is Charlie and he finds himself on a journey, as you read the character grows. I believe the characters are what made this book for me, you can find yourself able to connect with them. The storyline is set around a time when Culloden was only 20 years prior and the Jacobites are still upset over the losses. I personally love this time period and reading a book that followed it was an amazing escape. You wont be disappointed with this book.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexi Conyngham is a historical mystery-murder that I truly enjoyed reading. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This story is about Charlie , he finds himself far away from home and under protection from Leith. But what happens when a murder becomes an obsession? Will he find justice? I highly recommend reading this murder mystery. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I didn’t like this book as much as I’d hoped, as I have a little bit of a love affair with Scotland. However, the murder mystery itself was well-woven and detailed. The plot was a bit slow due to the imbalance between dialogue and narration. I still enjoyed the historical aspects and descriptions of Scotland. The accuracy and attention paid to the language and accents of the time also added to the realness of the story.

The Slaughter of Leith Hall is a very interesting historic novel filled with mystery and suspense. I am a huge fan of outlander, and this book grabbed my interest as it is set in Scotland shortly after the Jacobites fight with the British.

He is back in Scotland, and takes a fiercely determined and intuitive young man Charlie Rob under his wing. Charlie learns a lot shadowing Leith wherever he goes, and is content with his job, until one day, he is thrown in the middle of a murder mystery.

4 Stars!!!!
I really do love books set in period. I don’t care if they are romance, mystery, or whatever. I love being drawn into the past and able to fantasise that I am in that time period. This book was very well written and kept my attention from the first page to the last. I love how there is just enough intrigue and drama to keep the reader going.
I could really feel the emotions Charlie felt as the drama unfolded. I was on the edge of my seat to see who was actually guilty. I really like how the author grabs the reader and you are transported into the very colourful past. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

A great murder mystery
A historical story that takes place in Scotland after the battle at Culloden, the final confrontation of the Jacobite army with the English. Charlie Rob has worked for the Leith family and has grown into taking on new duties for them. His search for truth and justice after a murder makes you root for him in so many ways. I loved how history was woven in with Charlie’s experiences. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in historical fiction. I’ll definitely be checking out this author’s future books.
What a great read! This book will hve you turning the pages to find out what happens next! I look forward to reading more from this author.
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham was a great read! I loved how the setting of this story was in an older time period, it’s so rare to find books like that these days. Since it was in that timeline though, I found the novel to be a little confusing at first, simply because of all the characters and it took a while for them and the background of the story to build up. But overall, this was a very thrilling, enthralling read. This is the first novel I’ve read from this author before, and I was very impressed with it. I can’t wait to read more from this author in the future!
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham. I love a book that really keeps me on the edge with mystery and this author did just that. That characters pulled me in immediately and were very easy to connect with. I’m really picky when it comes to historical type novels I find myself getting bored easily but I didn’t have that issue here, from page one I felt engaged in this storyline and following great characters. The storyline is well written and unique. It’s paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking. The characters truly bring the words to life. I excited to read more from this author. Four stars and highly recommended. I ask that if this isn’t in your preferred genre that you still give it a chance because I promise you won’t regret it.
Leith Hall or Captain Dilley’s
Death has sturck some as strange. It took me a little bit of time to get into this book the start was slow for me. Charlie character I really liked. It took me time to get use to the period setting in which the book took place. Charlie finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery and then tries to find justice for Lexi.
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham is an interesting historical murder mystery set in early Scotland and I love Scotland and its history having visited there several times. And I can still remember the feel of Culloden and the resting place of many and this brought it all back. Historical fiction is not always my thing, but I occasionally don’t mind reading them. The story was a bit slow to start with and I found it hard at times to settle in but once I did finally did, I enjoyed the mystery and suspense that the story brings. Lexie is very detailed in her writing, so it was easy to imagine the world she has created. If you love a good mystery and a bit of history, then The Slaughter of Leith Hall is one to grab and read.
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham. I loved this book. It’s a historical mystery set in 18th Century Scotland. It’s during a time where the Jacobites are still reeling from their loss of Culloden. Charlie Rob is not very worldly having never traveled outside of Scotland. John Leith of Leith Hall takes a liking to Charlie and sets out to make him more worldly. When Charlie goes with John to Aberdeen he is amazed and a little scared. They are put in situations Charlie is sure they won’t survive and when a murder is committed will they be able to safely find the killer. Will John and Charlie find the killer before its too late? I loved this story and I felt like I was in 18th Century Scotland trying to solve a murder.
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham was an interesting historical read. I had some trouble getting into the story but found myself picking it up time and time again. The writing was well done and the character development felt authentic. I loved the little surprises that came up now and again. I did not see the story going in the direction that it did. While not being my normal genre to pick up and dive into this was definitely worth the read!

The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conynhgam
This is the first book by Conyngham that I’ve had the pleasure of reading. While it was difficult for me to get into at first it soon captured my attention.
Charlie Rob is a manservant and this story follows him through his adventures. Charlie is new to this and he doesn’t want to upset his Employer.
Charlie, follows John Leith to his hometown. There he’s met with things he’s not used to. He’s warned that it’s not like the place he comes from. The quote I choose for Charlie is: ‘Och, I’m all fingers and thumbs.’
This isn’t the first Historical Mystery that I’ve read, but it was one of my favorites. Anyone who loves a good mystery; this is a book for them. I do highly recommend this book! Lexie did an amazing job.
The Slaughter of Lieth Hall by Lexie Conyngham is a great historical mystery. The characters were delightful and relatable. I enjoy historical novels, especially ones that take place in Scotland. It was refreshing to read a story about someone searching for answers, without bringing a romance into the story line. This is my first time reading this author and I will definitely be looking for her name in the future.
The Slaughter of Leith Hall by Lexie Conyngham is a rich, enticing historical mystery, set in 18th-Century Scotland. John Leith, the master of Leith Hall, tried to regain favour and social status following the defeat of the Jacobites by fighting for the British army in America. He has returned to Scotland but continues to be preoccupied with his experiences in America and the people with whom he fought.
The story is told in third person, over the shoulder of Charlie Rob which works very well. He has worked with the Leith family for many years but has only recently begun taking on more senior duties. We see him accompany his master to Aberdeen for the first time, encountering the space for the first time through Charlie’s naïve eyes. He is experienced enough to know to be observant but discrete, although he does not always piece together what he has observed which allows the reader to get a few steps ahead at times. Thrown into situations he feels completely unprepared for, we find ourselves rooting for Charlie and admiring his tenacity.
There is plenty of mystery in this story. The reader gets a slow drip of information we know will be relevant, as well as sudden shocking events. It’s a real page-turner as we race to piece together the facts and figure out what happened, and why.
For me, this is a five-star read. A great way to delve into an interesting part of history, and a really gripping story! I’d recommend it to fans of historical mysteries, particularly if you’re interested in Scottish history!
