I always say that contemporary books are the hardest for me because it’s hard for me to find a truly great one. And this one for me was one of those truly great ones! I adored every single emotional and quirky minute of it!
I could so connect with Lennie’s struggles and the stupid things she did at times, but they made sense why she did them. If …
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and all its quirky characters. A beautifully written novel filled with music and wonderful poems about the rollercoaster journey of grief and the odd ways us humans learn to cope when our loved ones leave this earth. Unapologetic and real. It may just help one heal from great loss.
Out of all of the books that I have read, I found this one a little less than the others. It is about a girl who recently experienced the loss of her sister and is in the midst of grieving with her grandmother, uncle, and her sister’s boyfriend. And while she is caught up in the pain of this death, she has to decide between the comfort of her …
Honestly, I loved the characters, and the references to Wuthering Heights. The fact that Bailey is ever present in Lennie’s life was heartwarming. This is definitely the kind of book that you want to read on snow days or on long flights/car trips.
Reading this book is like taking a bath in starlight.
A touching story about life/death, love/loss, and forgiveness.
This is a gold standard for contemporary YA, one I teach my students. Jandy’s writing is gorgeous, her characters complex, the set-up so emotionally resonant. I love this book so much.
This book took me through the range of emotions throughout the whole thing. If you want a book about grieving, learning to move on after the death of a loved one, and learning how to be there for others who are grieving as well…this is the book for you. There’s also a bit of romance and even some lessons on self confidence and self worth. I …
5 HEART-MELTING, BREAKING AND REPAIRING STARS!!!
I loved this book! My emotions ran the gamut. At one moment I’m giggling and at the next my heart is wrenching. I can’t believe that this is Jandy Nelson’s first book. She hit it out of the park and then some. I don’t think I have ever read a more poetic and deliciously lyrical young adult book. …
This book is full of big-hearted characters with a lot of complexity. In places it cracked my heart in two, but then it stitched it right back together soon after. Overall a thoughtful and unique story, with richness and depth. One of my favorites, for sure!
“I look into his sorrowless eyes and a door in my heart blows open. And when we kiss, I see that on the other side of that door is sky.”
“Grief is forever. It doesn’t go away;it becomes part of you, step for step, breath for breath.”
“Grief and love are conjoined, you don’t get one without the other.”
Is is a pretty great story about loss, …
