The Skeleton in the Closet is book two in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series by Angie Fox and Narrated by Tavia Gilbert.
This was another fun one to listen too. I love the characters, world, and mystery. I was sucked in and on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens next. We are treated too twists and surprises that all lead to a satisfying ending.
Verity and her side-kick Gangster Ghost Frankie find themselves looking into the murder of one of the townsfolk. Everyone is pointing the finger at her, but Ellis our sexy deputy is on her side.
Verity’s life is never dull, with a murder, a hidden document that will change the towns history, a cheating ex fiancé who won’t leave her alone and her current boo, Ellis.
I just adore this series. It’s so much fun with it’s witty dialogue and exceptionally fun mystery. I like the light-hearted moments and the ghosts we meet along the way. The romance is second to the mystery and I enjoy that.
Narration: Tavia Gilbert remains a fantastic narrator for this series. Her voices are perfect for the characters and add to my enjoyment. I just love her voices for Verity and Frankie. The deluge just pops for me with her narration.
The Skeleton in the Closet is a delightful listen and a great mix of paranormal mystery blended with a cheerful small Southern town charm.
Rated: 5 Stars
This series by Angie Fox has me hooked! It somehow came across as a Facebook suggestion and I’m so glad it did! I am binging the whole series and love the audibles. Verity is on another ghost hunt with her gangster ghost friend. The characters are funny and has that cozy mystery feel. Highly recommend.
I couldn’t resist putting “haunted.” These books are fun reads! Who doesn’t love someone with a pet skunk?
I had a great time with this book and thought it was a fantastic addition to the series. I have been eager to continue with this series and am so glad that I finally worked this book into my reading schedule. This is the second book in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series which I would recommend reading in order if possible but it could work as a stand-alone if necessary.
Verity stumbles upon a dead body while helping her sister prepare for a big event. Nobody knows who killed Darla or what their motive was so Verity decides to see what she can learn with the help of her ghostly sidekick Frankie and Ellis, a local officer and potential love interest. Throw in the efforts to win her back coming from her ex-fiance and the demands of Frankie, and Verity has her hands full in this installment.
I thought that this book was very entertaining. I had no idea who was responsible for all of the things going on around Verity. It was great to get the chance to know the characters we met in the first book a little better and I enjoyed meeting a few new ones as well. I was very happy with the development that we saw in Verity’s romantic life. The book was very well written and I felt like the pacing of the story was spot on.
Tavia Gilbert did a wonderful job with the narration. She is able to use a distinctive voice for each character that appears in the story which really helps bring this to life. I thought that she was able to add a lot of emotion and excitement to the story as well. I think that her narration added to my overall enjoyment of the story.
I would recommend this book to others! This is such a fun paranormal cozy mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I cannot wait to listen to the next book in this entertaining series.
Having enjoyed the blend of fun and flirty southern small town charm mixed with a paranormal mystery that began this series, I’ve continued on for more ghostly adventures with the Southern gal, Verity Long and her irascible ghost pal gangster, Frankie.
In this installment, Verity and the rest of the town are gearing up for the big celebration and festival of the year. The town’s big claim to fame was a Civil War battle fought on it’s doorstep and the townspeople and the militia repelled the invaders. Founding families- the Wydells and the Jacksons are feuding over the historical displays and Verity is annoyed when her ex-fiance’ Beau Wydell starts wooing her again, but things really get interesting when a historical society volunteer is found murdered just after she calls Verity’s sister and shares she found something important when going through the historical display items.
Verity and Melanie are under suspicion, but Verity suspects the Wydell matron, Beau’s mother, who also happens to be new flame, Ellis’ mother, too. Ghostly encounters have revealed a secret worth killing for. Verity and Frankie are forced to press forward to solve the murder even as Verity makes another go at freeing Frankie’s ashes so he can leave her property. Meanwhile, things get somewhat strained between her and Ellis when the current case places their relationship in jeopardy and a vengeful poltergeist isn’t keen on them investigating a certain haunted house.
I love the light-hearted moments blended with a solid mystery and a ghost haunting situation. Fun to get the historical angle through the ghosts Verity and Frankie meet. It’s also sweet about the romance building with Verity and Ellis and the fun rivalry of the small town figures.
Tavia Gilbert remains a fantastic narrator of the series and hers is the voice of Verity and Frankie for me.
Again, I recommend this series to those who enjoy a blend of light romance, paranormal, and cozy mystery set in the small town South.
In this installment of the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery Series, Verity and the rest of Sugarland are getting ready to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Sugarland. A Civil War battle in which the townspeople beat the incoming Yankees. The battle is the reason there’s a cannonball in the side of the town’s library. Every year the town comes together to celebrate this great event. This year though, Virginia Wydell, mother to Verity’s ex, has hired film crews, and the History Channel’s in town to document the story.
When Verity and her sister Melody meet up early the morning of the reenactment, to set up a buffet for a meeting being held at the library, Verity finds the body of Darla, the library volunteer who’d been hard at work when Melody had gone home just hours ago to catch a nap and change her clothes. With the police now investigating the murder, Ellis asks Verity for her help to solve this case.
With her ghostly sidekick Frankie in tow, Verity sets out to solve the case, while at the same time spurning her ex fiancé Beau’s advances. Learning the shocking truth about not only her friend Maisie, but also the Wydell family, Verity is now firmly in the crosshairs of Doris’ killer. Will she with Frankie and Ellis’ help, figure out who the killer is in time to stop him from killing others, or will she end up dead like Darla?
I can’t get enough of this series. I’m burning through story after story and don’t want it to stop. The writing is witty, the characters are charming, and I can’t wait what happens next.
If you love cozy mysteries, ghosts, and slow burn romance, you need to check out the Southern Ghost Hunter series by Ms. Fox.
**I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review.
In The Skeleton in the Closet, Verity and her sidekick Frankie the German are once again reluctantly drawn into helping her “is he/isn’t he boyfriend” Sheriff Ellis Wydell solve another murder with the aid of Sugarland’s spirit world. An added incentive this time is the involvement of her sister Melody as a prime suspect. What follows is the exposure of a centuries old cover up which has the added bonus of humiliating her arch enemy as Verity makes friends with the ghosts of some civil war soldiers as well as playing matchmaker for them.
This is a fantastic addition to the Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries. The humorous dialogue between Verity and Frankie makes me smile as I read it and the plot line involving murder and long hidden secrets definitely kept me guessing . Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I loved this second in the series.
When Verity finds the body of a woman in the library, she is drawn into helping figure out who murdered this woman. With the help of her resident ghost, Frankie, she tries to find the answers from the dead to give a clue.
I love these characters, Verity is strong and likable with a touch of insecurity that she pushes on through. The mystery was excellent and kept me guessing with plenty of twists. I love the side stories of some of the ghosts, all in all the whole kept me turning the pages excited to see what would happen next. I definitely will continue on with this series, as a matter of fact I started the third story today.
Really, if your looking to escape reality and let your stress melt away, you can never go wrong with an Angie Fox book.

I have had a blast reading these books, love everything, story, characters, overall awesome like a good cup of coffee!
Lots of fun
The story with Verity and her ghost Frankie gets funnier. Verity gets pulled into another murder this one with a new dead person that involves the history of the town of Sugarland. Virginia Wydell is funding a filming of the town’s history which now involves a murder. Verity gets introduced to more ghost some that are VERY powerful. to top everything off Beau decides he wants to court Verity again over her dead body.

Verity and Frankie is back and in for one spooky ride. Every time you think you know what’s going on the author throws a curve ball. She keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, forcing us to read the book as quick as possible. I must say it’s a wonderful ride.
I highly recommend this book/series. You won’t be disappointed. Spooked out, but not disappointed.
