Author K.T. Munson really delivers in THE SIXTH GATE. Munson weaves compelling characters and fantastic worlds flawlessly. Mystery, magic, horror, romance, and heartbreak are all found within the pages of the most compelling tale I’ve read in quite some time.
Following Elisabeth’s struggles to suppress the darkness within herself and watching her character’s growth throughout the story is a thing of beauty. If the brilliance of the main character weren’t enough, Munson gives the same attention to detail to every character the author lends voice to.
The first chapter about The Black Council grabbed my attention right away, leaving me with questions that demanded answers. The following few chapters slowed the pace a bit, but by chapter ten, I was completely hooked. I also appreciated a few Easter Eggs, especially the one featuring mention of characters from one of my all-time favorite video games. The only problem I found with the book were a few typos and some spots where I had to go back and reread because of odd wording, but it wasn’t enough to lose immersion for more than a few seconds.
Overall, THE SIXTH GATE is a fantastic story that I would recommend for anyone who loves fantasy.
This book took me on an adventure I was not expecting. Yes, it took me to other worlds and places of imagination , but it also took me inside myself. It made me look at my world, how I perceive it and others . This book makes you see all parts good and bad, and to accept that you cannot have one without the other.
Cannot wait to read book 2
Ya gotta love this author’s mind that can create such details and imagery in this wonderfully complicated story. The gates are there for a purposes, one that it seems is not doing it’s job. There is mayhem and chaos that keeps you turning the pages and getting to know these characters better. Don’t blink because you may miss something. There is trouble on the horizon and something must be done to battle it. Will the darkness win out or will she accept herself as a whole and be complete. Deceit and jealousy, no one knows who to trust. Everything is changing and no one knows who will win this battle.
Great story the imagination of this author is amazing as the imagery is so vivid you feel like you are there. The characters grab your heart as their part is revealed. Love this world.
The Sixth Gate is the second book that I have read by K. T. Munson. I read it immediately after being captivated by the worldbuilding in one of her other novels, Zendar.
I was pleased to find that, once again, Munson has built an incredibly detailed and rich world in The Sixth Gate. It is rich in lore, detail, mythology, and traditions found in fantasy novels, but she presents it in such a way that does not hinder the plot or character development. There is a delicate balance between character development and plot, and this book strikes this balance perfectly as we move seamlessly from event to event.
The Sixth Gate features multiple points of view, as opposed to Zendar which only features one. This shows just how the author has developed in her skill level, as each character is full of conflict and life, and each one has their own goals and expectations. I really liked the characters of Ki and Elizabeth, and the antagonists such as the Black King were just as compelling. Throw into this mix the plethora of monsters, orcs, half-demon seers, and hunters, and you have all the challenges that Elizabeth must overcome to unleash her full potential.
The writing is compelling and imaginative, and is a joy to read. Sometimes the action scenes seemed a little lacking, however, and the final confrontation seemed to end a bit abruptly. I found the descriptions of the realms and cities enjoyable (something that was missing in Zendar) and dialogue to be snappy and witty.
I cannot choose if I prefer The Sixth Gate or Zendar at this time – but I do know that I will be aiming to read them all.
A heroin like I love! A strong female character and a strong female writer, a great style and awesome plot: the perfect combo for a brilliant read! KT Munson is a great discovery!
The story blends the physical and metaphysical realms into a seamless narrative of good versus evil. There is deception at various levels that keeps the reader guessing, and the plot is epic in its scope. Rich background development adds a relatable depth to the main characters on both sides of the divide, especially Elisabeth, Malthael and Ki. But more impressive is the world building; the Netherworld, in particular, comes alive as its contrasting landscapes and creatures spring from the pages. The Divine Court, in particular, had a mysticism about it that did not disappoint, though its dangers did not manifest themselves in this book aside from the lethality of its flowers. The combat sequences were a tad difficult to follow, especially the showdown at the end. Nonetheless, the ending is satisfying and leads into the next book in the series. It is definitely a great read for people of all ages that love deep fantasy worlds filled with strange creatures and vengeful villains.
