A very interesting view of both Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel. Very informative.
It offered a new way of looking at the Sistine Chapel and provided much information about Michelangelo.
Anyone who has seen the sistine or will be going to see it, should read this book. Also, I am Catholic and learned so much from reading this book.
I love that Michaelangelo was very informed and interested in the Jewish tradition, and he cared about his beliefs
This book was amazing. I am about to visit the Sistine Chapel for the 4th time, and I will see it totally differently than ever before. The information in the book turns on its head everything I previously learned about the Chapel and Michelangelo, despite information learned from respected, highly educated art historians and Vatican theologians. And it makes so much sense. It has even made me understand things about other Italian artworks so I could better place them in the context of Renaissance Italian culture. I have been recommending this book to all my friends. I’ll be revisiting it on the plane to Rome.
The book provides jaw dropping insights about the frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. The illustrations are positioned perfectly to illustrate the narrative. Highly recommended.
Wonderful history of the Chapel…a must read if you have been there, or are planning on going to visit the Vatican.
After seeing Sistine Chapel a few years back, this book opened my eyes to what was really there! Opened Michaelangelo’s possible motivations to the reader.
Could have been a fascinating story, but writing was dry and boring.
Highly informative and interesting, but you do feel that the authors are doing too much of a hard-sell of their viewpoint.
Fascinating, well researched
Extremely educational
Michelanglo is my favorite, and the Sistine chapel may be the greatest work of art ever.. This book is a scholarly and reliable revelation of the Sistine Chapel imagery. Not at all what I expectd.
