‘The Sister Pact: Home Is Where the Heart is’ by Jacquie Biggar is a heart-warming story of a family, struggling to offer love and support to each other despite all the differences. I was allured by the name of this book as it resonates with my conviction that “home is where the heart is.” Homes may be torn apart due to hurts and apathetic attitudes but loving hearts can fill the fissures with a little effort. Jacquie has brilliantly told their story with a touch of realism and right emotions. How much do we understand each other? How conveniently do we forget the bonding moments when we move on in life are some of the questions that would tug at your heart as you read this story.
Jacquie’s simple yet astute style is perfect for this book. She lets the story flow without much drama and allows her characters to grow up to understand the significance of relationships. No two people are alike and this book thrives on characters that are real, the ones you may have met in your own homes. It is Levi’s goodness that won my heart. Holly’s growth is remarkable despite the setbacks. Jacquie’s subtle messages about life are noteworthy.
The Sister Pact is a story about two sisters, Holly Tremaine and Susan, the twin brothers Steven and Levi. Holly was away from home for eight years to pursue her dream and became a violinist in New York. Her Lyme disease drove her home before Christmas holiday. Holly and her sister had grown apart for many unspoken issues. Holly was jealous of her sister marrying Steven who was once her boyfriend, and that her sister now had a husband with successful business as a Family Law Accredited Mediator, and their two lovely children. Whereas Susan was jealous of Holly being able to make her dream come true while she became a housewife and a mother but was short of pursuing her dream as a dancer with her own studio.
Steven invited his twin brother Levi to come from Vancouver to spend the holiday and get reacquainted with Holly. Holly had a one-night relationship with Levi when she was drunk after her sister’s wedding. Upon Holly’s arriving home, she was at odd with the tension between her and Susan. She also didn’t expect to see Levi coming to the family dinner. At the dinner table, the familiar scene of the parents arguing repeated.
After a hiking trip on the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Holly and Levi found themselves in each other’s arms and secretly yearned for more. By talking to her father, Holly found out he and her mother were seeking separation. To her surprise, Susan left Steven and came to the parents’ house with her two children. She broke the news of seeing Steven with a woman.
Holly and Susan tried to talk to their parents to bring them back together. At the same time, Levi tried to talk to Susan while Holly tried to talk to Steven to fix their marriage.
In The Sister Pact: Home is Where the Heart Is, Jacquie Biggar skillfully packed the story with family conflicts, jealousy, and unresolved anger. She also painted a beautiful picture of caring, love, and forgiveness, home is always a home where we belong. Highly recommended.
I loved the dynamic between Holly and Levi. And the characters are set up beautifully. Holly heads home after an illness ends her music career early and seeing Levi again reminds her of her past… and her feelings. Feelings she tries to put on the back burner while she tries to fix her relationship with her sister Susan and Susan’s husband Steve. But those feelings along with family secrets cannot be hidden…or ignored.
The family dynamic in this book is amazing. It’s well written, well thought out, and fantastically full of feelings. A first by this author for me, but definitely not the last!!!
Holly Tremaine returns home when illness forces her to step back from her career as a concert violinist. The holidays are approaching, and home seems the place be—only there are several untidy messes in Holly’s past. Her sister, Susan, married Steven, the man Holly was once in love with, and Holly had a drunken one-night stand with Steven’s brother, Levi.
Sound a bit complicated? It is, in a wonderfully flawed and heart wrenching way. This is a blend of chick lit and romance with neither overshadowing the other. The story is not only about the buried feelings Holly and Levi have carried for each other, but also the emotional scars and bonds between sisters. When Susan’s marriage falters, it’s Holly who rushes in to try to hold it together, and when Holly’s illness gets the better of her, Susan’s eyes are opened to the distance they’ve allowed to grow between them.
This is a beautiful story about family, siblings, sisters, emotional healing, and true loves. Jacquie Biggar writes with perfection and infuses every story with warmth to touch a reader’s heart. The Sister Pact is another perfect gem.

5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading this book. The Sister Pact: Home is Where The Heart by Jacquie Biggar is a story that pulled me in from the beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. It is a story about family and romance. I loved reading about Holly Tremaine and Levi Anderson. Holly is coming home in the hopes to make amends. Her music career has been impacted by the diagnosis of a life-threatening illness. Levi is a man who has not forgotten about Holly. Seeing her only makes his feelings become stronger. There is a chemistry between them. What does the future hold for Holly and Levi? Will Holly and Levi act on their feelings for each other? Will Holly’s efforts to make amends succeed? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. Holly and Levi are likable characters and I found myself wanting them to find happiness. There are moments that tug at your heart and others that had me wondering if the past could be overcome. I highly recommend reading this story.
I read this book in a day and thoroughly enjoyed the distraction. It’s a romance, but so much more than that. The story has a maturity to it that I appreciated, genuine characters struggling with all kinds of relationships, old hurts, forgiveness, and love.
Holly Tremaine is ill and, forced to leave her job, returns to the dysfunctional home of her childhood. You couldn’t cut the tension with a chainsaw, and she immediately wonders what the heck she just did. An old beau enters the scene, but so do old wounds, misunderstandings, and hurtful assumptions between the family members, particularly between Holly and her sister Susan.
One thing that I enjoyed about the book was how genuine the family and characters felt, flawed but trying hard to make their lives work. The focus is on Holly who shares the story’s pov, primarily with her sister. The writing is polished and tight, which provides a speedy pace while allowing for some beautiful descriptions. The plot works well and wraps up nicely. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy romances, relationship stories, and a fast-paced entertaining jaunt through family life. A perfect beach read.
Heartache and Joy

The author has skillfully woven family struggles, redemption, and a heartwarming romance into this engaging story with well-drawn, believable characters. A good read!
The Sister Pact: Home is Where The Heart is by Jacquie Biggar, was gifted to me and what a gift! With romance, relationships, and endearing, realistic characters, this story stole my heart. I was immediately drawn into the tension between Holly and her sister Susan.
The romantic feelings Holly dealt with between her sister’s husband–who Holly happen to have been crazy about in high school–and Levi, his twin brother–who turns out to be the love of Holly’s life–weave a fascinating tale. With wonderful characters, this heartwarming story hits on a kaleidoscope of emotional whirlwinds bound to trigger a memory to most readers. If you love romance and stories about familial relationships, don’t hesitate to pick up a copy of The Sister Pact.
Ten years ago Susan married her sister’s boyfriend. Since then Holly is been away pursuing her career as a violin st. But after a health issue, Holly realise that family is the most important thing and she is back in town to amends their relationship. Can she heal her broken heart and find happiness and love again?
If you think your family is a dysfunctional hot mess, Holly’s beats it. She escaped five years ago, finally returned to celebrate the Christmas spirit with her parents and siblings, and within minutes, wishes she hadn’t. Her parents are as vitriolic as ever, her sister is still angry with her, and no one cares that she’s become a successful violinist–something few manage. Sure, there is the issue that her sister’s husband used to be Holly’s boyfriend and lover, and she did sleep with HIS brother on her sister’s wedding night, but why everyone is so angry, Holly just really doesn’t understand.
I know. It does sound complicated, but this is family and Holly is determined to make it work. That’s what holiday’s are about, right? Even though it doesn’t start out well, at the core of it all are two sisters who once loved each other like, well, sisters. All they have to do is find that again.
Sound good? It’s even better than I managed to put into words. If you have a difficult family but love them anyway, this is the book for you.
I love how in the beginning it seems like everything is a mess and she seems to have all these feelings. But before you know it holly is helping her sister keep her marriage together and Susan’s trying to reconnect with her sister. A truly beautiful tale of family and how you shouldn’t take things for granted.

Let me start off by saying, this is a new author for me. I don’t have siblings, so sometimes it’s hard for me to identify when that’s the main theme. That was absolutely not the case with this book. From the first chapter I was hooked. Holly and Susan are our main female characters and they are sisters. They need to figure out how to recover from past hurt to make sure they have a future as a family. There were multiple twists and turns in this book that kept me on the edge of my seat. I will 100% read another book by Jacquie Biggar. She has a way with words that’s so unique and wonderful. Amazing story told exceptionally well.

The Sister Pact: Home is Where The Heart is by Jacquie Biggar was an excellent read. I absolutely loved this book. I am not going to lie though, at first, I was shocked with the fact that Steven cheated on Holly with Susie back in their younger days. That was just crazy. I did love how the book played out. The characters were developed well and realistic. I had no trouble following the different points of view as I read. I also really liked Levi’s character. He was my favorite. This book was such a fun and crazy read. I highly recommend it.
