NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLEREvery woman makes choices. And no one has made more difficult choices than Olivia Grayson. The enormously successful businesswoman missed out on much of her children’s lives while she built her legendary home-furnishings empire. In Danielle Steel’s character-rich new novel, Olivia faces the past, tries to balance the present, and makes amends where due, while still … where due, while still running her vastly successful business.
THE SINS OF THE MOTHER
As a way of making up to them for time lost, Olivia spends months every year planning a lavish holiday that everyone in her family will enjoy. This summer she has arranged a dream trip in the Mediterranean on a luxurious yacht, which she hopes will be the most memorable vacation of all. Her lavish gesture every year expresses her love for them, and regret at all the important times she missed during her children’s younger years. Her younger daughter, Cassie, a hip London music producer, refuses the invitation altogether, as she does every year. Her older daughter, Liz, lives in her mother’s shadow, with a terror of failure as she tries to recapture her dream of being a writer. And her sons, John and Phillip, work for Olivia, for better or worse, with wives who wish they didn’t. In the splendor of the Riviera, this should be a summer to remember, with Olivia’s children, grandchildren, and daughters-in-law on board. But as with any family gathering, there are always surprises, and no matter how glamorous the setting things don’t always turn out as ones hopes.
Family dynamics are complicated, old disappointments die hard, and as forgiveness and surprising revelations enter into it, new bonds are formed, and the future takes on a brighter hue. And one by one, with life’s irony, Olivia’s children find themselves committing the same “sins” for which they blamed their mother for so many years. It is a summer of compassion, important lessons, and truth.
The Sins of the Mother captures the many sides of family love: complex, challenging, funny, passionate, and hopefully enduring. Along the way, we are enthralled by an unforgettable heroine, a mother strong enough to take more than her fair share of the blame, wise enough to respect her children for who they really are, and forgiving enough to love them unconditionally.

I love this authors books. They are all VERY GOOD!!!!!!!!
Great Book.
Couldn’t predict the ending.
If you love reading about how the rich live, this is the book for you. Danielle Steel gives plenty of detail about how the other half (.0001%) lives. There are several storylines. The first half of the book details a fabulous family vacation while the rest deals with the main character’s relationship with her children.
I liked it very much. A dry good read
Another lesson in life by ms Danielle. Enjoyable.
I almost always love Danielle Steele books and this was no exception, good story, kept me wanting to come back and read more. I highly recommend it, especially if you are Danielle Steele fan
Not Danielle Steele’s best. Too wordy, slow read
Great book. Plot kept me guessing what the outcome would be right until the very end of the book!
I did not like this book. Evidently I do not like the Author anymore. I used to like her earlier books (like “The Ring”), but every newer one I have read, I do not enjoy.
She goes on and on describing things until it is annoying!!! Also makes it seem like living any kind of life style is acceptable as long as you are happy – which I don’t agree with. Sorry I read the book.
Love Danielle Steele books. They are all basically the same bit all different. This was one of her normal but definitely a good read and worth every page to read. I would definitely recommend. If you read her you will agree and you will also be glad to have it to read.
I read so many of Ms. Steele’s books when I was in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. I stopped some time ago because I thought the stories were blending into one another….. I’d forgotten that she keeps you interested till the end, but I will continue to buy her books again.
Another classic Danielle Steel!
I always enjoy her books.
I have loved reading Danielle Steel books since I was in my 20’s and still love her books in my 60’s.
Good book I recommended, Danielle Steele never disappointed us
It is worth 5 stars
Danielle Steele weaves another intricately woven narrative, building strong and interesting characters in a setting in which they have to question their own beliefs and face their own judgements in pivotal life situations. An excellent read in which the characters become your friends.
And interesting book of how lives we’ve between each other and how we end up doing things that we don’t think will do
Never wanted it to end, stayed up late several nights wanting more, loved all the characters. Love, forgiveness, family, and much more a must read I want more about this family soon.
