A sinner’s only hope is true love in this passionate new novel in J.R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series.Syn has kept his side hustle as a mercenary a secret from the Black Dagger Brotherhood. When he takes another hit job, he not only crosses the path of the vampire race’s new enemy, but also that of a half-breed in danger of dying during her transition. Jo … during her transition. Jo Early has no idea what her true nature is, and when a mysterious man appears out of the darkness, she is torn between their erotic connection and the sense that something is very wrong.
Fate anointed Butch O’Neal as the Dhestroyer, the fulfiller of the prophecy that foresees the end of the Omega. As the war with the Lessening Society comes to a head, Butch gets an unexpected ally in Syn. But can he trust the male—or is the warrior with the bad past a deadly complication?
With time running out, Jo gets swept up in the fighting and must join with Syn and the Brotherhood against ultimate evil. In the end, will love true prevail…or was the prophecy wrong all along?

Syn likes to kill. The brotherhood isn’t sure if they can trust him with the end of the war nearing. Jo is someone V has been watching for a while. If you haven’t read the the other books you might be confused as to what is going on with all the side stories in this book. Now I love any book Qhuinn is in. Plain and simple, he is my favorite in this series and no one has changed that yet. I did come to love Syn at the end of this book. My heart broke for him over and over again. I am glad he finally got his book. Now I can’t wait to see what J.R. Ward has in store for the rest of the BOB.
Awesome Syn is quite the character! Has his own personal demon inside him of which has little control but he’s trying. Jo is on the cusp of either becoming vampire or dying. Syn gets a whiff of her and knows she’s his mate at which point he starts following her around trying to keep her safe. Not intending to initiate the bond, because he doesn’t think he’s worthy, he hangs around a bit longer and actually reveals himself to her. Jo has been tracking them down for sometime convinced there are vampires among us. She witnesses a few gruesome murders and the cops even suspect her at one point. Things go crazy when the Omega comes looking for Butch, this new entity comes slowly into the picture and things move rather fast. Love how rather smoothly Jo takes to the vampire deal and finds a relative amongst them! Am glad Syn gets a great ending and not put down! Makes for a great read that was hard to put down at night!
I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!
The Sinner was amazingly epic! All the characters. The fight. The passion. The Brothers. The love. It was incredible! Another outstanding story in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world.
I am sad to say that I am one of those that have not read every book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I am however a fan of the series. I have read several of them. I seem to jump around prior to a year or so ago. Now, as they come out, I have made it my mission to read them. With that said. I was able to keep up and feel like I was right there for all of the past book with no misses at all. I also found more of a reason to go back and start the series over again. With this time being from beginning to end with no missing books. I want to follow along as the brotherhood is tested, tried, consumed, and bonded with love, friendship, and family.
I laughed, cried, rejoiced, clapped, and more. This one had me in may emotional states. Yes, this is a long book. Well a duhhhh. This is a Black Dagger Brotherhood from J. R. Ward. You will not be disappointed. There was something here for everyone. Wonderful characters. Some confusing, some confused, some with dark past, lost past, blurred past, and then there were those that were helping you along your journey through the read. You will meet many of the supporting characters and want more of them. There was just so much here. If you haven’t started pick this one up. If you are one for the whole picture go back tot he blind king in Dark Lover. Book one of the Black Dagger Brotherhood had much for you to consume. Now, if you are a connoisseur of the series dive right in and enjoy each tap of you reading device, turn of the page, or intonation of the narration.
I really enjoyed this book. I have read the entire BDB books and enjoyed the HEA for these characters. I hope we will continue to see them in the future because there are still some questions I have from the overall arc of the story. I enjoy This authors writing story, several storylines throughout the book. Syn and Jo have a good chemistry and the redemption of Syn was well done. I was surprised to see Davina in this story, but glad. The part of her and Butch was sad but sweet and I am looking forward future with her. Lassiter – I can’t wait!! I would recommend this book and any other book by this author.
I’m a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and The Sinner did not disappoint. Jo is another pre-trans half-breed who has no idea that vampire’s exist let alone that she may become one. Syn is so flawed. He’s been through unimaginable hell and even after linking up and moving in with the Brotherhood, he’s got a dark secret.
As she always does, Ward give us complex characters who one wonder if they can find any kind of happily ever after. There’s plenty of intense action with the Omega and the Lessening Society.
We get to see a lot of the characters from previous books which is always fun. I just can’t come up with enough ways to recommend this book. Don’t take my short review as anything less than resounding positive.

Paranormal Romance, Assassins: This is the 18th book of the Black Dagger Brotherhood saga and the last that has been published so far (spin-offs aisde). According to the blurb, this story should have been about Jo and Syn, one of the Bastards. Both of them are pretty interesting characters and the initial premise was nice: Syn is hired to kill a journalist who is being a pain in the ass for a mobster. That journalist is not other than Jo. It sounds good, isn’t it? But that part of the story is resolved without much development and the story of the main couple of this book becomes dull, uniteresting and a waste of good pages. How sad it is that the only hook of that couple was knowing when Syn was going to orgasm for the first time in his life?
Frenzy: So, why have I given this book such a high mark? In all honesty, it doesn’t deserve all those stars; but it has a pretty good pace, interesting revelations (a bit obvious, though) and a side story led by Butch where all the magic of this book happens. If it weren’t for him and Devina, this book could have been as bad as The Shadows.
Angry: I’m so sick of Vishous! The blatant favoritism towards that character is rubbing me the wrong way and with every single book that itchy sensation is getting bigger and bigger. I hope Devina gets rid of him!
JR Ward does not dissappoint. Black Dagger Brotherhood at its finest. I would say this book is about Jo Early, a human half breed, although she does not know this, and Syn, one of the Band of Bastards. Syn truly is a sinner among the vampires. He has his own form of killing and he enjoys it for the sake of killing. Something happens when he meets Jo, his one true mate. But can he change for her? and after learning the truth about Syn, can Jo believe everything she sees and can she believe Syn? This book is more than the Journey Syn and Jo take to come together, this book is the end of a chapter for the BDB, and the beginning of another. First they have to finish this war without every dying, the Omega has gained his strength and he is out to destroy the brotherhood. Lassiter and the Scribe virgin can do nothing to interfere. All is almost lost until an unexpected being shows up. I love this series, and Syn and Jo have so much to overcome with the war in the background of their relationship, and sometimes the impossible becomes possible. So much to come but Jo and Syn get their HEA.
In this book there are a lot of things going on, one of the members of the band of bastards named Syn is hired to kill someone and because of that, he ends meeting Jo, a human reporter he can’t seem to be away from…
On the other hand, Butch must fulfill the profecy in order to win the war against the Omega, but everything is more difficult than he was expecting, and a new female character is introduced, she’s mysterious.
I couldn’t put this book down, but the final chapters were a little disappointing, everything happened so fast in my opinion…. Anyway this was a very entertaining read.
I am feeling super bad right now for not giving this book a better review. but I have to be honest. Usually I am chomping at the bit to read the next book…. but it took me a while (and a few weeks) to get into it. I usually can’t put the book down, but I had no problem doing that with this book. Though I am used to the subplots around the main plot, this one was a little all over the place… was glad that Devina is back as stated, but even she was a little “Meh”. And as promised, there were some questions answer… but gave me others. The Warden said this was going to be a pivotal book… drilling into us the the Dhestroyer Prophecy was being fulfilled… now that was my major disappointment…. after all the hype and build up for Butch to save the day!!! … and to have the twist …. no bueno! I did like that Sin and Jo worked things out (as expected)….and the Lassiter and Devina moment…. but the reason this book got the 4th star was the Wrath moment…. now that was cool… I only wish it could have lasted.
I have loved every book in this series, but this one? AMAZING.
So many loose ends pulled together. Masterful writing. I’m in awe of JR’s ability to handle all these characters.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so you’ll just have to read it and enjoy it for yourselves.
Loved this book!! As much as I love JR Ward & this being one of my all time favorite series, there were a couple of books in this series that were good but not the usual JR Ward book but I found this to be similar to the older books in the BDR series. Definitely some laugh out loud moments with Butch, V & Lassiter, these three are always entertaining!! I’m so happy Syn & Jo finally got some happiness in their lives with each other, they both deserve their HEA (especially after hearing about their backgrounds). I also wasn’t sure about Devina entering into the story but what a twist at the end, definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes now!! Also hoping Balthazar gets his mate, his character really stood out in this book. It was nice seeing the love & loyalty he & the other BOB’s had for Syn as well. I didn’t want the book to end!! I’ll be waiting impatiently for the next one!! Thanks JR Ward for another amazing book!!
I’ve been reading Jessica Bird’s works for five years and she keeps taking the cake. I’ll forever love her writing ad the depiction of her hot and deadly Black Dagger Brothers.J. R. Ward
I love this book! JR Ward did it again!
If I could give 20 Stars I would, she is that good in keeping this series going without mistakes!!
Anything J R Ward writes is beyond awesome!! Can’t put it down especially her series “ The Blackdagger Brother!”
This book was just ok for me. I don’t have any real strong emotions for the characters or for the storyline.

To start with Jo and Syn. I like Jo. She was a determined and independent woman who was just trying to seek the truth. I liked Syn as well. But their relationship was just ok. Their relationship lacked the emotion and feelings that most of the previous couples had. I probably won’t remember anything about this couple in the future and I am ok with that. I did enjoy watching Jo find her family though.
Butch and V are also the main focus of this book. We have seen that the end of the war has been coming about in the previous books. It ends in this book, which I wasn’t expecting. I thought there was going to be at least one more book before that. The conclusion to the war was very anticlimactic though. After 18 books I really thought the war would end with a bang but it did not.
Devina is from the Fallen Angel series, which I haven’t read since 2013 and barely remember. She tricks Butch and tries to seduce him in this book, which I hated. But overall, I just didn’t find her very interesting. I guess we will see how she is in future books.

Overall, this book was just ok. I spent most of it waiting for something big to happen and nothing did. I hope I like the next book more.
I always look forward to a new BDB book, because I love getting lost in the world of Caldwell and the Brothers! Once I get one in my hands, it’s a big conflict between trying to make it last, and wanting to see what’s going to happen next.
This installment was similar to many of the recent titles, in that it wove two main storylines together: that of an established character (Butch), and that of a newer, unexplored character (Syn/ Jo Early).
As much as I love Butch, I would have liked to see more of Syn and Jo, and I thought there were a couple of missed opportunities/loose threads with respect to Syn’s cousin Balthazar.
However, I did enjoy the reappearance of an enemy well-known to me from Ward’s Jim Heron series, and thought she weaved that individual in very well. As well, Ward has lightened up a bit on the sometimes-peculiar slang of the Brothers, which makes the dialogue between them read much more smoothly.
Overall, such a great read, and as always, I can’t wait for the next one!
Syn is a broken, tortured alpha male who is a brutal killer, but who has a completely tender selfless side when he’s with Jo. Jo has been searching for a sense of belonging all her life, but has no idea that she’s half-vampire and may transition soon. Together, they make a wonderful couple who balance each other out. The long-awaited Dhestroyer prophecy is finally made manifest as well. This book represents the end of an era and the beginning of something new. I can’t wait to see what’s ahead for our beloved Brothers and their allies.
I really like this series. They have all kept my attention so far.
I love any book by JR Ward and this book is no exception. The Sinner grabs you from the beginning and leaves you wanting more when it ends.
