Gripping and Suspenseful! I love when a book grips me and takes me on a heart stopping journey as in The Sinster Heart. Mary Lancaster weaves a story from beginning to end with threads of intrigue, abduction, and mystery. It’s an unforgettable romance that brims with tension-building twists and turns, remarkable emotions, characters that are well thought out and you find yourself drawn into their story, and great dialogue and with one fantastic plot. Verne, a dark and brooding rogue, is haunted by his past. Cecily, a curious minx, finds herself an unwanted house guest of Verne’s she some realizes something dark and mysterious going on. A dark and sinster traitor is spinning a silent intricate web of murder, espionage and chaos until slowly all the pieces start falling together that solve who the real villain is. As the conspiracy unfolds beautifully with drama, passion, grief, trials and tribulations, turmoil and the uncertainties build and tensions escalate with twist and turns abound that will keep you guessing until the end in this outstanding story!
I am enjoying this series and I like that the stories are connected by family and the Hart inn also plays a part. This story that involves the Duke of Alvan’s sister, Cecily. Cecily is a very curious young lady and acts impetuously, this often gets her into trouble but she has a kind heart. Cecily finds Lord Verne attractive but he has a dangerous reputation. This was a good paced story with a few secrets to uncover and some dangerous events. This could be read as a standalone but you would miss out on a good read but not reading book one. Now onto the next in the series!
The second in another good series. Ms Lancaster creates sympathetic characters with real personalities, and her plots avoid contrivance and excessive coincidence. Her characters actually talk to one another rather than leap to conclusions. Yay! There is charm, affection, humor, and genuine feeling in the stories. The relations between Cecily and Patrick are a model for good relationships.
When Lady Cecily comes down for a glass of milk she runs into the sinister Lord Verne. After what she has seen at the inn she can’t seem to get the mysterious Lord Verne from her mind. Verne has been accused of many things some true some not, but he holds a lot of guilt and sadness inside. Cecily is smart, sensible, sweet and funny. I think that lord Verne is full of guilt for his brothers death along with feeling that he is unlovable. There is a lot of content to this story and mystery and intrigue. It is one of my favorite stories from Mary Lancaster. I loved Cecily and Lord Verne and was very much rooting for them. This is just a wonderful story and a definite five stars.
Lady Cecily Moore is a curious young woman and that is always landing her in trouble. This time it could be truly dangerous .
Lord Patrick Verne has a very sinister reputation. People believe he has got away with murder. That reputation helps in the work he has taken on. So many enemies about , it’s best to suspect everyone.
A lovely mystery and adventure for our outspoken and brave characters to undertake. This is part of a series but easily read on it’s own.
An action packed page turner. I loved every page and can’t wait for the next one.
Seeing him at the Inn, he appeared like one of Lord Byron’s heroes with his dark broody looks. I am paraphrasing but to say I was not captured by the first few paragraphs would be so untrue! I was looking forward to this story because Mary Lancaster has the best characters that she brings alive every time! Cecily sees him and is intrigued and when she learns who he is, Lord Verne, she knows her brother has a friendship with him. Surely the rumors are not true?
This was such an adventure with beautiful, strong minded Cecily who will not bend. Full of intrigue, suspense, romance, humor and a hero who has his own secrets, I could not stop until I turned the last page! I cannot wait for the next one in this series!!
Lord Verne is a complex, sinister person with nothing but bad luck and bad tidings. Or so it seems. Once again at the Hart Inn, Lord Verne encounters the beautiful and single Lady Cecily. She is attracted to his person and finds herself staring at him outside her window. Wondering about the mystery that surrounds him she leaves her room and wanders about the inn. Not wanting her to discover what is going on, Lord Verne abducts her from the inn and now the adventures begins. Not only is she of high ranks but her brother is his best friend. Complete with spies, mystery, an unknown assassin, and rumors of murder, Mary Lancaster has given us a page turner that you will not want to put down.
Lady Cecily is the sister of a duke. While traveling with her spinster aunt she is mistaken for something she is not, and suddenly kidnapped by a stranger.
It turns out the man is Lord Patrick Verne, often referred to as
“ Lord Sinister “ by the gossips of the ton. But he’s not truly a complete stranger, Cecily’s brother has a friendship with the man so he can’t be ALL bad can he? He certainly doesn’t look bad….
The two are drawn into a web of spies, intrigue, and danger as they fall deeply for each other in this romantic adventure. It has a group of interesting characters and twists that keep the reader absorbed in the story and its outcome until the very end. I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this book – the hero was a dark, brooding, tortured man that had made some of his problems but many were gossip and lies. The heroine is an innocent, lovely, witty daughter of a Duke who has a habit of getting into trouble because of her curiosity. She has had many offers of marriage but just hasn’t been able to love any of them. Patrick, Lord Verne mistakes Lady Cecily as a hussy when she is spying on him at the Hart Inn when they ran into each other. Verne kidnaps her and takes her to his estate before finding out who she is – she is the younger sister of his best friend – so he offers to marry her to escape any scandal. They know she will call off the wedding before it happens but they must play their parts to convince the gossipers. Lord Verne’s reputation is well known as being a rake and murderer but Cecily knows he is not that person and sets out to prove it. Falling in love with one another was not an option – they had great adventures, mystery, romance, love and most of all truth in the end. I highly recommend this book and book 1 in the series – it was fun to revisit some of the characters from the past. .
