Lawrence Sinclair has been smitten with Lady Caroline Lovell since the moment he laid eyes on her. But a former Major in his majesty’s Calvary and the estranged heir of an earl with no prospects, has no business wanting the daughter of an Earl – even if he did save her brother.
Lady Caroline has no desire to marry, after 3 seasons and many thwarted suitors, she holds out hope that she will make it to her 21st birthday, unwed and free to set her own course, thanks to a small fortune left to her by her grandmother. But Lawrence is a puzzle that needs solving and the first and possibly the only man that has ever made Caro rethink her future.
Lawrence would love nothing more than to marry Caro, but he feels honor bound to walk away from her But he has seriously underestimated his love! Caro isn’t willing to let him walk away without answers and is willing to stoop to forgery to get them!
When a HEA seems to be in their grasp, a shocking family secret paired with a stunning betrayal and an even more surprising twist – may change the all the plans they have envisioned for their future.
I thought this was a very good story, I loved that Lawrence never waivered in his devotion to Caro, nor did he ever feel sorry for himself and his lot in life. The book wasn’t perfect, there are situations that come up, seem important and then are promptly ignored without explanation or repercussion, the love scenes are barely tepid and the ending feels a bit too good, to be true. But it is a sweet story and I am looking forward to the next book.

Different, quirky characters, great read!
At first I wondered where this book was going. Decided to keep reading and glad I did. It really was a very different take on the Harlequin romance thyme.
I throughly enjoyed it.
This was my first read by this author, but won’t be my last. It was well written. Caroline and Lawrence were a great match for each other and he is what most women dream of. I love smart women and strong men because they can usually truly appreciate each other. This story was not only a wonderful romance, but had enough of a plot to keep it really interesting. Would highly recommend.
A delightful Regency romance, full of passion, humor, and love.
Well written and interesting plot
Fun read!
Way too drawn out.
Great love story between Caroline and Lawrence! Caroline has no intention of marrying. She wants the freedom to travel to travel to exotic places like her brothers have. Lawrence, a friend of her brother’s, falls in love with Caroline at first sight, but feels he is not good enough for her. He may someday inherit from his uncle, IF his uncle has no son. Otherwise he only has the proceeds of his commission. Old friends turn out to be enemies and Caroline must take matters into her own hands if they are to find happiness. Bittersweet and tender. A quick read and many stories to come from the minor characters. Another fine romance from Mia!
Very romantic
The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe is book One in The House of Lovell series. This is the story of Caroline Lovell and Lawrence Sinclair.
Caroline is 20 years old and in just one year she can inherit from her grandmother, which will allow her to become her own person. But until then she has to play along with the ‘marriage mart’ even thought that isn’t what she wants. Lawrence took up the life of a military man and now has retired from that life and has come to stay with his friend. There he meets Caroline who intrigues him along with a great attraction for her. Caroline too starts to have feelings for him and she starts to find out how fascinating he is.
Enjoyed their love story.
The Singular Mr. Sinclair by Mia Marlowe
The House of Lovell #1
Caroline Lovell has a dream and it does not include a man…definitely not a husband. No, she wants adventure and to travel to faraway places like…Zanzibar. Lawrence Sinclair wants peace after a decade in the military. He has returned to England to regroup. When the two meet in Caroline’s parlor he is stunned and left utterly speechless – not making the best first impression. Caroline, unwillingly, begins to see more in Lawrence that at first sight. The two move steadily toward a HEA that may see them in England or perhaps traveling. There was a twist or two in the story and there were a couple of characters that I would enjoy reading more about so do look forward to reading more in this series.
This is a delightful, somewhat predictable, lighthearted romance typical of the genre with a HEA ending for almost all while setting up for the next book in the series.
Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes
Was this a good introduction to this author’s work? I believe so.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Lyrical Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4 Stars
“The Joy of now is worth any sorrow that may come.” This story was a character study of two people and the journey it took for them to come together. Lady Caroline is in her last season and will be able take control of her life with the inheritance she is to obtain and live her dream of traveling and seeing the world without being hampered by a husband. That is until fate steps in in the form of one Lawrence Sinclair, recently arrived with her brother who had been traveling abroad. Lawrence is so full of emotions he harnesses from his upbringing and military service that he has to learn to be in polite society. Caroline is determined to find out his secrets and what makes him tick. This is such a well written book with intense emotions and some hidden secrets that come to life. As the two spend time together you can feel their feelings coming through the pages. But there are many obstacles that must be overcome. Prepare to be enchanted as you take in this sweet romance that will have your heart smiling as you turn the last page. I cannot wait to read more in this series..

The first book in a new series & as there are five Lovell brothers hopefully they’ll each have their story. Lawrence’s & Caroline’s story is a lovely romance no spies, murders or intrigue, they don’t hate each other, they aren’t compromised, they didn’t get carried away with passion, they are simply attracted to each other from the start, especially Lawrence, & the more they know each other the more they like each other & fall in love. There are a couple of surprises at the end but overall just a pure & simple romance which was a change & a breath of sunshine.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I really liked Caroline and Lawrence!!
Caroline has no plans to marry. She just has to get to her twenty-first birthday to inherit money from her grandmother. Only then can she pursue her dreams of travelling the world. Now she has to make it through her third season with no proposals and she is home free. Her parents, of course, would love for her to make a good match this season. Things have a way of changing when Caroline meets her brother’s friend, Lawrence.
Lawrence and Caroline’s brother have just returned from abroad-with stories to tell! Caroline is taken with Lawrence Sinclair right away and he, with her. She wants to hear all about his travels! Lawrence feels a magnetic pull and goes after Caroline. It’s a delightful cat and mouse game for sure!
Caroline still wants to travel, but Lawrence fascinates her! Lawrence, on the other hand, doesn’t feel he is up to snuff for Caroline. He struggles with that. But he is helpless to stay away from her!
The fun part is how these two finally come to terms with their feelings and figure out how to be together. There is family stuff that always plays a part! Plus the overall theme of women not being afforded the same freedoms to do what they want,as men frequently do. The story was paced good and I was entertained throughout!
The situation with Lawrence’s uncle was almost a 180 from how it was in the entire book. It didn’t seem believable-at least on the uncle’s part!
I loved how this book shows that love is undeniable!!
