Celebrate the release of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks with an inside look on Mr. Rogers’ spiritual legacy. It shows us a man who, to paraphrase the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “preached the gospel at all times; when necessary he used words.” Tom Brokaw of NBC Nightly News once said of the American icon Fred Rogers, “Mister Rogers was an ordained minister, but he … but he never talked about God on his program. He didn’t need to.”
Eight years before his death, Fred Rogers met author, educator, and speaker Amy Hollingsworth. What started as a television interview turned into a wonderful friendship spanning dozens of letters detailing the driving force behind this gentle man of extraordinary influence. Educator? Philosopher? Psychologist? Minister? Here is an intimate portrait of the real Mister Rogers.
The Simple Faith of Mr. Rogers focuses on Mr. Rogers’ spiritual legacy, but it is much more than that. It shows us a man who, to paraphrase the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “preached the gospel at all times; when necessary he used words.”

I am a huge Mr Rgoers fan and I greatly enjoyed learning more about this American hero.
Amy Hollingsworth invites us into personal correspondence that she had with Fred Rogers as a result of a friendship that developed when she interviewed him for an article she was writing. We get insight into the personal faith of Mister Rogers and how his Christian beliefs inspired his life and passions.
There is much about Mr. Rogers that Americans should know especially in our age of Living in Lies: his book is a good place to begin! He was a very unique man of honesty that never really lost his faith in being kind to all…
What a wonderful, giving, generous, kind man. One of his messages, “slow down” is one we all need to hear. Be inclusive, be kind, listen, encourage, build up, so much to learn from Mr. Rogers, no matter if you are 3 or 93!
insightful
Mr. Rogers was a wonderful person who was a joy to see on TV, even though I have few shows I ever enjoyed. He could always keep the interest of children and parents alike, and the author did a beautiful job of sharing her memories of this beautiful person. A very memorable reading experience.
I am loving this book, and finding it so touching and inspirational that I can hardly read it without happy tears. What a wise and sweet man Mister Rogers was!
This is a wonderful look at the life of Mister Rogers who had a children’s television show. The author did an interview which started a lifelong friendship with Fred Rogers. He was the same person off camera as he was on camera. Mr. Rogers taught many hundreds of children the commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.
A fun read about a truly great man
I was excited about the book but it seemed dry and boring to me.
A nice tribute to Mr. Rogers with “behind the scenes” views of his attitudes and faith. I must admit though it was a “slow read”.
I don’t often read biographies but then I’ve always been curious about Mr Rogers. Who hasn’t? My daughter used to watch him every morning in her preschool years. What a gentle man and so kind a personality. What makes Mr Rogers tick I wondered. I would notice all the biography books written about him and thought one of these days I want to read …
As a child that enjoyed Mr. Rodgers, I was interested in making sure the “bubble was not burst” concerning this man. It was not. His love for children, simplicity in His relationship with God and his love for people was beautifully written by Amy. She had a friendship with Fred Rodgers and knew him well. So many quotable words that will stay …
Lovely story of a wonderful man who inspired so many.
Very good report of the author’s relationship with Mr. Rogers. It was enjoyable to hear her first hand experiences with this wonderful man.
A wonderful true book @ Mr. Rogers.
I was emotionally moved to tears by many of the stories told about Mister Rogers. I came away with a much greater appreciation of the depth of Mister Rogers’ faith.
He is a treasure
Lovely book about a very special man!
Loved this book. Mr. Rogers was inspirational.
